This is the thread about the BATs that took our breath away, the ones we followed as they were developed, but somehow they were forgotten. The main goal of this thread can be summarized as remembering and appreciating the BAT itself and effort put into it, and maybe getting the feedback from authors what happened and what can we expect in future. There is only two rules for posting here: be sure to list the name of the author and BAT (also include a picture of BAT), and be sure to upload only BATs which progress haven't been published for over year

I went trough one forgotten BAT thread today and found this:

If I had to revive a BAT it would be the Cinncinati Bengals's Paul Brown Stadium made by teemu_om. Seems to be last updated on April 2, 2007; but I'm not sure of this because teemu_om shows some pics later that don't show properly.

200207paulbrownze5.jpg

As you can see, it could have been a truly epic BAT... At least, teemu_om uploaded the Reliant Stadium among some other outstanding arenas and stadiums!

You can find more close up shots on this [link] thread.

Absolutely everything that Kant01 was working on before he went inactive! I was so looking forward to his New England building set.

That's a cool idea for a thread, Vlasky!

I don't have a new catch to offer. All the buildings shown so far would have been such a great addition to the game. My favourite however would have been delija21's Palace Albania: a diagonal corner of modernist style. Don't think we have anything at all in that category on any SC fansite.

@ TekindusT: To see BAT that much detailed, and so near completion abandoned, it is sad.

@ spa: So many of them... too many lost.

@ Ephemeron:  What's the deal with AutoVino? He had so many high quality projects going, and yet again he never released anything. In my opinion, that's mean 4.gif

@ gutterclub: Well, it seems that something just might happen there, on SimFox's behalf ... wink wink

@ alj: Thank you! Well I'd like to see it one day on STEX, especially cuz it's from Belgrade,Serbia where I live, and one of my favorite buildings here.

@ TowerDude: Yeah, it's sad to know that some of theme for sure won't be released. But for some, there is still hope.

@ SimFox: No, no not shame on you! Just tell us they're not lost/deleted and that you won't forget them and never release them 9.gif

    And now, stay tuned for

Please tell me that this is a joke. Why does someone who have offered so much time on building this, suddenly stop building on it? I can't believe it...

I can't speak for other BATters, but  I often end up abandoning a model.  Most often it's because another building has caught my eye and I move onto modelling that instead, sometimes I just feel that the model isn't working and occasionally it's because the complexity reaches a point where it is difficult to work on and it becomes a chore.

For me,  the greatest lost BAT was marrast's version of Battersea Power Station (2005/6. I think).  I tried to find the old thread, but I think it may have been deleted.

Its like a chain drug to the "industral" batters. It started off with one person and has switched hands mutiple times now. I dont even know what happend to it. But if i remember correctly its in the hands of J.O. now who has gone off to medical school. Simhotoddy TOL and some others have added to it.

I think the version currently floating around is different from the marrast one.  It was really great looking.  I think most of it was done, but he was doing all of the axillary industrial stuff around it as well.

Well, that was a surprise, and a nice walk down memory lane. What I can say is I still have most of those projects (a few of them I've lost). Some of them will definitely be done. When? I can't say. But someday! Some others, however, may never see the light of day. So sad.

That Carew Tower looks pretty nice, huh? Yeah... 2.gif

Regarding other BATs that never made it to the STEX, SimFox and Odainsaker are both holding onto a handful of BATs I'd like to see in my city someday...

Battersea, hah! Those were the days, eh?

To be honest, I don't even remember what Marrast's version looks like anymore, I wish someone could dig up a picture. The version I worked on was originally modeled by thequiltedllama. I just ended up changing the model some and adding textures. Me and J.O. were planning on finishing it; we started the coal pit and elevator just about done, but when he went off to school, I lost motivation to pick it up again.

By my standards today, I would probably end up modeling the entire thing myself (no offense TQL), not to mention replace all my terrible textures. Yeah, I don't see that happening anytime soon 3.gif

Kant01's disappearance was particularly upsetting to me, he came to me for help on numerous occasions (looking back I don't think I knew much better than he did!). Still a sad sight to see all that otherwise finished work go to waste.

@ ImVhOzzi: Well, there are many  obstacles which can pop up while BATing, one can get sick and tired of it.

@ Bastet69008: So many of scotty222 BATs never released... Such a shame.

@ Ilikehotdogsalot: I've seen that one coming along. So much effort has been put in it, I think there's a good chance of it coming back to life.

@ nofunk: Yeah, that Carew Tower and it's legendary badonkadonk look so dang nice. Revive them? 2.gif

@ mightygoose: Who did the Moscow University? Sorry I had to ask!

@ Sgt Pepper: You do have quite a bit of them Simcity4fan12 9.gif. It's so sad to know you deleted them ... 15.gif

And now, brace yourself as we revisit some of the best bats ever to be seen around.

Some say he's made of solid ice block,

    others - he's got a dual processor installed in he's head;

all we know is, he's called

Well I guess I have to answer my "crimes" against humane batting...

    OK, shall we start?

    1. Elsinor

    389d0bac1e98.jpg

is in advanced stage. basically all the modeling is done and it is ready for texturing. I do plan to get back to it. So the chance that it will be on STEX before the year end are high.

    2. Federation

    9606d4e77bd3.jpg

At least at the moment I don't have plans to dust it... I've started the whole thing partially because I wanted to see if i CAN make it - particularly the surface of eh towers (also the blinds) that curve in all 3 dimensions simultaneously. I know now that I can, so the challenge is gone. What left is a building that is really quite hideous. The real thing is also on hold and what is gonna happen with it is unclear. It's flamboyant developer (who was caught saying in Nice "if you don't have a billion f... off") is in a deep financial s.. He himself clearly don't have a billion to finish many of his projects. And ows to banks about same billion.

    3. SinoSteel

    ec7c5ff7f4e2.jpg

I really like it but I think I would need to redo it, to make more efficient and manageable model. Construction of the real think had started in Tianjin as a part of new huge BinHai CBD in about 40 km east of the historic downtown (yep it is quit a large city). So I'll get back to it when I see some first floors and actual plating coming up. I believe I'll be doing some more buildings from that area, particularly InnerMongolia Mansion.

    out of second bunch...

    4 & 5

    p44tmsouth1zz3.jpg

    p44corner2westsw4.jpg

these were shelved cause I though that game favors tower like buildings... but I believe I can bring these back rather quickly. I would remodel those to make for more efficient model, but that wouldn't really take more than a day of so. So these could be good weekend projects... If there is a public demand for such buildings.

    6.

    895d78e48c45.jpg

Well, this one I had really forgotten... And at first, when I saw it now, I thought that it is gone since I made it with a 3rd party plug-in installed that I don't have anymore. But after looking for it I've managed to open the file. I would have to take more "in-depth" look at it to determine it's status.

    7. Russia Tower

    7841315dbeff.jpg

Well since the destiny of the real one is totally unclear at the moment - old developer don't have 2+ billion that it would cost to build and will not get that sort of money anymore and there had been rumors that a 9 storey parking garage would be built on the spot (although with predetermined life span of only 5 years). But recently there had been some indications that one of the oligarchs had show interest to the project. one that does have needed money to finish it.. so we'll see.

As far as model goes... Well it is just too big! It is 3500+ pixels in height. So it wouldn't fit in 30" monitor even if put it in portrait orientation! Buildings of such dimensions really not for the game. I know there is a bunch of people who think the bigger the better and pick up only one thing about the building - it's hight, but... So I'm not too sure if I'll get back to this one... but we'll see.

    8. Hodynka

    e3479d452f54.jpg

This one, on the other hand is a perfect size skyscraper, big, but not overpowering. I plan to finish it at some point.

    9. TWFC - Tianjin World Financial Center.

    24b8301e709f.jpg

This one will definitely be finished. What you see at this render is a basic approximation and shape study. At the moment the building had just a couple of floors assembled and the nature of it's curtain wall was really unclear. Official renders didn't really show much. So I had to put it on hold till building will be finished. And it already had been! It's China for you - 340 meter skyscraper in a little over a year time. I'll be standing next to it in less than a month so I plan to gather as much material as I would need (including the base) and get back to modeling it.

    10. Ukraina.

    388bbbf5dd36.jpg

well this on I open on more or less regular basis and do a little work on it. In fact many things - like, say LetThereBeLight, came out of that project. so even without being finished it had benefited community. I'll be getting back to ti and at some point it will be done.

On a separate note I'm also curious who is an author of the Moscow State University building. By the looks of it (particularly lighting) I'd suspect it is Sam Johnson's work...
