in SC's camera the pyramd looks too squashed. could you possibly stretch it vertically to make it appear that it is the right height? building looks great BTW.[/quoteMESSAGE][/bEGINQUOTE]

the building is looking great! the  roof needs some more work though like exagerrating the Z on the pyramid.

good work!

Looks good!  However, i suggest using a slightly more shiny material for the facade.

    The pyramid on top has been rasied a bit.

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquareroof03.JPG

    I added the satelite and a railing that goes all the way around. The real building has no roof junk, it is all inside so I will not be adding any more.

    So thats the roof complete, now for the base.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/9.gif>

    I think the roof looks good, so we'll look forward to the base. Well, at least I will.

    Just one last point on the roof, I think you should add some sort of light framework over that pyramid, just to make it look like it's built of something. If you want to know how I would do it, there is a demo model in the models section of the exchange that is a dome with a light framework structure over it. It's realy easy to do, and would add a lot to the top.

    Great tutorial, worked well. However, the frame goes diagonally for some reason and I could not correct it to go vertically and horizontally. It still looks good though;

    I'm happy with it and Samantha has kindly said she will render it some time soon, of which I am very grateful for.

    Expect it some time soon. I'll have a fiddle with custom GUIDs and quering to make a really cool query function.

    What would you like it to be? It will be a landmark costing 180,000 but would you like a Stage 8 CO$$$?

    I have started a few buildings for the Sim Mars project but my next building will be the tube station at Canary Wharf.

    That's a good canary wharf building. It seems that the Tube station looks like the re-built WTC station in New York.

    dont know if it is possible to have flashing lights but at night there is a light that flashes at the top of this building for the airplanes to see the building as there is a airport just round the corner (London City airport) and the flight path runs about 80 metres away from this building

    Thanks for reminding me, I had forgotten about that! In the LE there are several effects for flashing lights so I will use one of them. Althugh I don't know how to stack items...

    After playing around with shapes and trying to make the station I realized it would be very difficult due to its irregular shapes. I shall need to learn how to do some more advance tricks before I can do the sation so its on hold for the moment.

    Anyway, here is a little something I just made.

    /idealbb/files/Glassthing01.JPG

    Just a nice glassy roofed thing with steel columns. Its about 3 tiles long. I'll make some sort of plaza out of it with fancy night lights.

    The best way to make the subway station shape is with the Surface modifier. See my response in this thread

    I can provide more specific details if you need help. 1.gif

    Couple of quick tips for using the Surface modifier.

    A surface will only be generated over an enclosed area of 3 or 4 sides. So if you apply the modifier to a rectangle you will get a plane (well actually a patch) but will have no effect on a pentagon. To overcome this add a line (quickest with the create button in the line subobject rather than making a new shape and attaching it) from one vertex of the pentagon to another, thus making a 3 sided and 4 sided shape. It is important the vertices touch but they don't need to be welded.

    Make a reference clone of your editable spline and move it to the side somewhere. Apply the surface modifier to this clone. Now as you work on the original you will get a realtime update on how things are going and what areas still need enclosing.

    Thanks for the heads up. The one on SC4.com hasn't even got night lights. Hehe!

    Samantha is going to render it at some point soon. In the mean time I'll finish this glassy plaza and make Canary Wharf's Nash Square.

    emergent, are you still having trouble on the station? caliban has a good tutorial, but there are other ways to do it. i did this in about 30 minutes and low poly, so you can do better. it's just to give you an idea that it is possible, so good luck 1.gif

    Hmmm... Good work. I did try it out but couldn't quite make much sense of it.

    I suppose you are going to complete the station, as that looks perfect so far, and release it?

    I've been a bit lazy and haven't used the BAT for a while now...

    @JEC

    Indeed there are always many possible ways to approach any problem, and I encourage people to use the one they find easiest.

    I suggested the Surface Modifier for 2 reasons.
    1) Most of the tutorials use splines as a starting point so I expect people to be more familiar with spline editing than poly editing.
    2) The splines you create for making the roof surface can be used again to make the supporting beams saving yet more time.
