well, what is the scale to the WTC in real life?  make that, then exaggerate the height.

The difference in height is 182m. The gap between them looks correct to me.

anything pitted up against the WTC is going to look like a dwarf, well maybe except the 101.

anyway, if its right to you, then go for it.  we won't know the difference.

Need specs on height?  go to skyscrapers.com or skyscraperpage.com  The height looks off.  How tall is it, anyway?

    235m.

    WTC = 417m

    417-235=182m

I have started work on the main building and have so far completed one side of the part that pokes out.

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquareoneside.JPG

I think I've pretty much got that sorted out, but it is really hard to move the objects due to the lagg. My computer can just about handle it. There are several thousand objects in that piece which put a real strain on CPU power.

here are 2 interesting photos of the Wharf that I found. The first shows the Wharf in the 80s when the industry and trade had come to an end. You can see the DRL going through it but its hard to believe what is soon to be built over it.

This pic shows the present day view, with a futuristic vision on it.

I had to scrap the last method of construction as my PC could not handle it.

    Here is version 2:

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquarebase04.JPG

I'm going to have a really hard time making the rest of the building. I need to duplicate the 2nd floor in the above image 40 times but my PC can barely handle it. I'm really annoyed as its going to make progress slow.

When it comes to rendering I will need a volunteer to render the building for me as my PC will not do it. I'd be grateful if anyone could help.

Here's something I've wanted to know since I saw it on my friends FS. What is the Dome used for and how long has it been there?

The Millennium Dome was built to house an exhibition to celebrate the year 2000. It was constructed in the few years prior to y2k, and included the Dome, outside entertainment and eating areas, a cinema, as well as new docks along the riverside and an extension and new stations to the 'Jubliee' line of the London Underground Railway that ran nearby. (each tube line here in London has a name)

It was all very impressive architecturally, and the site was, well, quite a sight, but the exhibition failed to attract anywhere near the number of customers that had been estimated, and closed after 1 year (as was planned anyway) having cost the taxpayers in the UK millions of pounds. (I did visit, and it was pretty piss-poor to say the least)
In the end, it was seen as a real waste of money, and, as ever, the only people who thought of it as sucessful were the government, as they thought the scheme up.

So still the Dome stits on the edge of the River Thames, empty and unused, while someone thinks of something to do with. Apparently it's still costing the country

    AMD Athlon XP 1500 (1.3Ghz FSB 100mhz)

    512MB PC2100 (266mhz)

    A P4 2Ghz+ ought to do it.

your PC is similar to mine (the processor is same speed) so i think it'd be better for someone else to render it.

I've continued work despute the set back and have finished the different floor sizes. All I need to do is add night lights then array the floors up. I have found a volunteer to render the building for me and am most grateful for it.

    I did some work on the roof and here is what I have so far;

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquareroof01.JPG

The pyramid turned out better than I had expected. What I did was use a blue sky texture and then clone a white pyramid under it. The blue pyramid is 70% transparent and can be sen through giving a good effect.

The roof is the only part I will have to guess on as I have no pictures that look down unto it. However, on some of the ground shots you can see a satellite dish.

That's a great looking roof EF. I would render it for you, but my computer is 1.4 Ghz P4, plus I don't know how to render anyways......

Samantha has kindly offered to do it for me. I'd prefer to get it done by someone closer to home and who I know better.

More updates tommorow evening when it should pretty much be completed.

I've kept going on the top of the building and here is what the roof looks like with a few floors of windows.

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquareroof02.JPG

The roof is a bluish grey colour which I still need to do. I'm now night lighting this part of the building as it is impossible to do the whole 50 floors of night lighting in one scene. I'll have to split the floors into groups of 5 and then merge into a final scene.

I like the huge dancing animal EF. (Not sure what it is, maybe a badger)

The roof looks wonderful. I love the blue.

    Sorry for the long pause.

I had almost given up on making this building as the scene had so many object and making night textures was torture. However, RedLotus has made a very useful MaxScript for randomly selecting object and it works like a dream. I can now night light an entire building in a few clicks.

    So, here is today's work.

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquareday01.JPG
    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquarenight01.JPG

    Now, some feedback please.

Is the steel texture right? Is it too dark?

    Thanks!

Very nice EF. Your right, redlotus's script worked like a dream. That night lighting is amazing.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/25.gif> The textures you used are just fine.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/4.gif>

It is very near to completion now and I have finished the nightlights and the main block upwards.

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquaredayandnightrender.JPG

I just need to finish the base then merge it in and then render. What do you think of the nigh lights? I think they are a bit too bright.

And here is a large view of the building in day.

    /idealbb/files/onecanadasquaremainpartandroof.JPG

    What do you think?

You and me are alone on this thread.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/8.gif>

I think it's almost perfect.<ahttps://community.simtropolis.com/assets/emoticons/35.gif> The textures are great, but lowering the intensity of the night lights couldn't hurt. Just don't lower them too much. The only other point on the building that might need some help is the roof. Maybe the textures good improve slightly.

in SC's camera the pyramd looks too squashed. could you possibly stretch it vertically to make it appear that it is the right height? building looks great BTW.
