Oh, so you're going to make the entire row (i mean to model all of the three versions of this apartment as seen in street view)?

That would be great 4.gif !

I might have something to say about textures when you will apply them.In short I believe that a brick texture which is a little less pink would be better, although i see quite well how pink those bricks wall are in real life. But as i said i will return on that when you'l texture them all.

You've done wonderful progresses lately, and i'd be glad to help as much as i can 3.gif!

What do yall think I need to do. make them separate, make the in a row, or both. I like the idea of making them separate.

Yes, by all means make them separate! This offers the best flexibility, while it is still possible to place three buildings on a lot, and then you have your complete row.

These buildings pretty much fill a 3x2 lot, I suppose?

He will if he's interested into 2.gif.

Aaron Graham:

Sorry, but there's a little problem i've noticed after my last posts and, while that's a little detail and i'm a picky commenter, maybe it would be a good idea to fix it.

So, let's see the first  model you've made on the timpson place condominiums row, and the pic of the existing building after it:

image05.jpg

picture03.jpg

See what I mean?

In both your model and on the existing building a yellow band runs on the front facade at the sixth floor. But in the building you're trying to re-create the band does cover the sixth floor and only the sixth floor on both the sides of the gable, while in yours it does one floor (the sixth) in the area between the indent and the gable, and two floors on the areas that are between the gable and the "edges" of the building.

I didn't pay too much attention to it at first, and i didn't realize how is that important on the design of those buildings. But after having seen at how they're combined together in RL i think you should change that.

EDIT:

I did a quick draft to further explain what i'm suggesting you to do....i'm afraid that i didn't write a very clear post 15.gif

timpsonplafter.jpg

Hope i didn't play too much the role of the guy who breaks the eggs in the basket 3.gif!

Frabcis90b- Thankyou, thankyou I have made a mistake on the first building I have copied the GMAX files so many times to back myself up, I must of rendered the one I miss up on sorry for that. I just realize that I don't have to make the third building because the third building looks like the first one. That mean I can work on thoes two building a lot faster.

halodragon- Right now im not interested in make the stock exchange building, Im try to work on the residental buildings. To let you know if I make the stock exchange I will post its here. Any way I  thought somone was making the New York city stock exchange building on there thread, I just don't remember who it was.

The more i see the later pic the more i appreciate your work!

Oh, and it looks like you still have a small tweak left to do on the roofs of those models.

I will be very glad to help you further on those buildings!

Welcome a clone of the terrible russian bear (caffeine flebo included) 3.gif!

The newer model is looking good 1.gif.Where is it located?

I'd really like to take a look at it.

Thank you for the quick reply!

It seems like it's a nice building to work on!

You've done a good job on the facade so far.Just be sure to pay attention to the brickwork that is featured on the front facade.I've seen that it is a pretty common feature on those building 2.gif

That link is for Southern near Kelly st. ... fun facts.. Maria from Sesame Street is from that area. Colin Powell grew up down the block on Kelly from my mom. (This was before anything was even close to burning).

The building itself is just any other building around there, what's the significance?

Yeah! We now have two Todds! Except one of them is named Francis... Oh well! Three cheers for coffee, BATing and Russian cloning!

coffee-advert-1.jpg

Look! New BATs!

109madisonst1.jpg

So this one's 109 Madison Street. I really liked the facade... so I picked it. On a personal note, last Wednesday I learned its pronounced fa-çade, not fa-kade; more proof that I'm not a real architect yet.

But anyways, The front is "done", except for some minor tweaks. I need to fix the texture of the door on the left, the faded part of the awnings on the right are too bright, the windows might need some work, air conditioners need to be added, and I may change the blinds around a little bit. I don't live anywhere near a city or even a large apartment building, so I need someone who knows the answer to this question:

Do people in apartment buildings put up their own window blinds, or do they come built in with the room?

I also need to add graffiti, props in the back, and window variations in the back, but you can't see them so it's beside the point. As for the roof, it's kind of done, but there are some things that need work. The most obvious problem at this point is that the roof access on the right is super-bright. After all, "Subtly is key in BATing!". Otherwise, the doors on the roof accesses need some work, the six-pack-smokestack-things need some texturing work, but nothing major for either.

So what does everyone think?

99madisonst3.jpg

Meanwhile, two buildings over at 99 Madison Street, I haven't changed much. I revamped the white brick texture, added a mess of graffiti on the right side and scaled the facade ornaments out 150%. By now they're several times larger than they're supposed to be, so I'm not quite sure what to do if their depth still isn't visible enough. Comments?

Anyways, that's all. Y'all have a good week!

Postscript: I'll be abroad (first time leaving the USA!9.gif) between April 16th and 23rd. So don't bother me.

Jumpthefence:

Pretty true statement about coffee, haha!

Both models are looking good.

I believe it would be good to make something to make the white trims more visible on the right building of the 1st model.

Another thing, i believe that the models do have a very definite rundown feeling. This isn't a bad thing, but the real buildings seems to be quite well-kept.Right now i believe that your models do have too much a "dirty" feeling.

EDIT: oh, and i hope you'll have a good journey abroad!

Jumpthefence- The models look great.

To let everyone know my Bats has been put to a hault do to real life. If did not have to worry about real life, I can get these buildings done that I have created. I am so so sorry it has took me so long to get these NYBT buildings finish. Life is not easy something will always go wrong.

Pffffft....

RAGE_java.png

Your fa-kade looks way better on 99 madison, I like being able to see the details. The white brick is also an improvement (I have yet to stick them in a screen shot, but you should know to do that anyway). As for the new buildings, you picked them for their details, now bring out those details so that the can be noticed. See how much better 99 looks with those nice noticable ornaments around the windows? Also, it looks like their cornices were stripped off for some absurd reson, stick a generic one up there just so that they don't look like boxes (or not, depending on how it looks in comparison with the others)

Aaron: Looking good! Just take your time and focus on the little things. Don't get caught up in "I have been working on this for a long time", it will be released when it is finished (simple yes, but puts thing in perspective). I take FOREVER to release stuff, my first BAT for the BSP (Frederick Douglass Apartments) is still not released, so don't fret too much about it.

I ve made the Bank Of America Tower in NYC, which is almost completed I think.

There is not nightlighting because I don't know how to create one.

I ve another problem too, I m unable to upload it, the file seems too voluminous for my computer. That's a mess.

just take a look on my work

Hey I'd love to get involved in this anyway that I can. I would learn to BAT myself but seeing as I'm working on a Mac the closest I can get is SketchUp for actual basic models. Let me know if I can help with putting together textures (I'm a self-declared Photoshop whizz) or finding reference for people to work from or even putting together basic models in SketchUp to send to others for BATing.

Wow! Very nice work Parisan.

I can put the finishing touches on it and render it if no one else is able to. I'm a bit busy this week but next week I'll have more time to BAT. That's going to be an STEX favorite once it get uploaded.

Thanks for the offer jackreid. I have sketchup also and finish them up in BAT. (I'm the unoffical "BAT finisher" for the team) Send me a PM when you have something to send me.

Okay, so just to clarify would I need to texture the buildings before contacting you to send them to you?

So I thought I'd dive right in with my first model to see how I did. This is my progress so far with one of the buildings in the Kingsview Homes apartment complex, on the same block as the Brooklyn Hospital Center.

screenshot20100415at000.png

Let me know of anything to avoid distaster, any tips or pointers before I get too far in to the process. Below is the actual building I've been basing it on.

jackreid: Best advice is to add as much detail as you can and be as accurate as possible. Pay special attention to proportions. There isn't anything on that building that looks especially tricky, so just take your time and you should end up with a lovely model 2.gif
