<div>This is a list of the top 10 cjs. The main is all city journals that have 200 or more replies. Each city journal has a point value based on the number of replies and pages. The top 10 have the most points. I will try to check the list once a week. I hope you all enjoy this thread.</div>

<h5 align="left">Edit: I created a formula to calculate the score. The score is the number of pages mulitplied by a number[A] and then the number of replies mulitplied by the same number<b> the score is [A+B]. The question about top 15 or 20 vrs 10. If enough people reply that they would like to have more then just 10 I will change it. 10's a nice round number and the more you add to 10 makes more work atleast in adding the links. I will try to answer any other questions you might have.

Note: The letter code is the status of the cj the letters are [P S U D N]. The [P] Stands for placed on the list. The stayed in same spot. The [u1] would mean the cj moved up 1 spot. The [D1] moved down 1 spot. The [N] stands for a new cj to the top 10.</b></h5>

hmmm I have 397 replies and 7500 views does that make my C.J. able to join in?

Also why only a top ten?There are like a 1,000 C.J.s here and at least a 50 with 200 replys....

And why are all the great C.J.s so low?I mean Digby 6th?!?Your kidding me.Plus that gaint gap between points how does TJD's Edmonton score that much lower then nexis?They should be almost tied or something if they are next to each other....

Other then that I think this a great idea,but maybe a top 15 or 20!

Wow, I'm on here! And to answer your question Cjah, Nexis has many more pages and replies than Edmonton, that is probably the reason for the big difference.

I don't get the point of your formula. Your two variables you are using (number of pages and number of replies) are so related that it seems pointless to use both of them. They both tell you basically how much people are replying to that journal. If you wanted to get a different kind of variable in, you could use number of views, which would help reward journals that people look at but don't comment in as much.

Then why do you multiply them each by the same number before adding them (if I understand what you are saying)? If you multiply them both by the same number, that doesn't do anything. You're not weighting them or anything.

It seems like it would be easier and give the same results to just list the journals with the most replies.

Wow, interesting project! Of course I'm gonna try like hell to hit your top ten with my new journal! It would be nicer, though, to have a top 20 (since you were talking about 84 cj's with more than 200 replies, this would seem better)

Man this site is getting crazy with all the lists! It seems that everywhere I look I see the same CJs being listed in each sig. I did not realize there was such competition for attention here!

I find the game addicting enough without all the hooplah. Cheers ~ happy city building and keep the updates coming!

A cj is added to the Hall of Fame either by having a score of 1000 or higher. A cj is also added if they have a total of 5 weeks at being at number 1. [does not have to be 5 weeks in a row]

I do like your idea for this, but that rating system will be unfair, if only based on pages and respones? and then calculate the two? not good.

What if I spend a whole page on just critics and suggestions to improve the CJ? this would end up benefitting the journalist, when it should not.

Ratings should be based on these things. the individual evaluates, similar to the STEX. It actually is illogical to rate a CJ, without the audience being able to rate it, based on a designated scale; like the STEX allows.

Based on quality of content, by the author.

Based on active updates=example: once a week.

Based on proper use of the regulations.

Do you see where this is going yet? Confusing isn't it.

THere really is, only one logical way to rate a CJ: the readers must do it, as individuals.

Imo this system is very flawed. You're basically saying, whatever CJ is the oldest, is the best. There are plenty of up and coming CJ's that will never make it into this top 10 list because their still under 15 pages.

Now, I'm not saying these CJs don't deserve their spots, because how long they've been going is a testiment of their popularity and the author's dedication. However, it basically limits the top 10 to the same 10 journals as long as they don't stop.

If you rated movies with this system, flops could be considered the greatest movies of all time, just because they had a number of views and purchases. Also movies from the past would be considered better then newer ones, just because they've had more time to get more views and purchases.

In all fairness, I think its impossible to rate CJ's on a universal system, unless it doesn't go by replies, but instead, quality. Of course, many people like different journals. Some love farming small towns with rich storylines, and some just like to see the city and could care less if it had a story or not. Some enjoy the editing done in some, while others applaud the interactivity. If you're going to have a rating system, it should be tailored to CJs. Some are exact replicas of cities, lots of hard work, but you can't fail it for not having a story.

Just my 2 cents.

EDIT : And also, why rated on replies and pages. They're the exact same thing. # of pages are directly related to the # of replies. And I'm assuming you're counting the authors responses in with the replies, which means a CJ whos author responds alot but doesn't get much feedback could be possibly considered more popular then one whos author does one update, and gets 10 replies.

This is a pretty cool idea.

I would agree its tough to get a fair rating system that gives up and coming CJs a realistic chance of cracking the top 10...but perhaps there is an easier way to do that...

Since you've got the Hall of Fame thing going. What if once a CJ makes the HOF you remove it from the Top 10, thus allowing new CJs to gradually move up. Since a CJ needs 5 weeks at #1 (or 1000 points) it would take a decent pace to cycle through. This way, when you make a post with the latest Top 10 list, you could have 1-10, then down below or something list out all those in the HOF.

Just an idea....

Wait till ISTRINA is becoming a real CJ, we have not even started yet and are already at seven pages!! Haha and with some of the best members of ST in it it would be huge (I hope). Maybe you could better make this a top20 like the musictops ...? with viewing and replying part of the formula.

If it was done that way at least after a couple months there would be an intirelly different top 10.

That way must C.J.s make it,but then again all the page 5 and under C.J.s get kinda screwed....

Maybe you need a few people to read small C.J.s and make a different list.Like new C.J.s that rock or something.....

MasterPlanMan: Howdy, friend. Well just wanted to add, coming from a professional/hobbiest/graphic artist: this website has literally turned the game of SimCity4, into an expressive form of Art. Of course they want attention, my friend. This is actually an entirely new Genre of art medium! Dirk SHOULD be famous and one day he may be. The CJ's blow my mind and make me think and inspire me! I love every tiny little one and have looked at more than anybody even knows. I am using this game to submit Graphics at many art communities and it is well recieved. P.S. I get LOADS of exasperating comments! SimCity4 is out of the box baby!!

the system that really should be used should have 3 main points:
A. # of Updates
B. # of non author replys
C. # of Visitors

and put them in a formula ((B/A)+(C/A))/2

and it should be counted per week, so the last weeks figures wont count, that will show what journals are most popular from week to week, and on an per update scale, so people with more updates are less popular even if they achive the same figures(people usually come back for every new update right?)

But all systems are flawed, that is part of it all. even one where everyone gets to say their oppinon about it.

however, this is your list, and it should be updated by what journals you think is the most popular, though since your checking replyes on the cj you have listed, pick down the visitor count and calulate the ratio of Visitors to Repyes. since people are more willing to reply to a journal they liked(most people anyway, some just post wherever possible)

just some tips, none meant anything ill. hope it might help you some, and i think the idea is a fun one

Wow 8th!?Shoot I almost passed Digby aswell!

I'm glad I re found this thread.Anyway like I said in the other thread the system seems to be working and hopefully a new system will be perfected shortly.

You know I just noticed something.When I first posted here I had 397 replies.Now almost 34 days later I have 853.I got 456 comments in 34 days and about 7,000 more views.Man that is just crazy.

So far so good....
