This is an issue that I often come across once my city grows to about 25,000 people. I searched for quite a while until realizing that this issue deals with the building stage level requirements. What this means is that at some point, if there is not enough medium and high density zoning to satisfy the required percentage for each building stage. No additional building will occur. For example, let's assume that at 10,000 residents, 20% of residents are housed in stage 1 buildings, 40% are stage 2 buildings, and 40% are stage 3 buildings. If there is not enough medium density zones for there to be 40% of the population in stage 3 buildings, no additional stage 1 or 2 buildings will be built either. I hope that makes sense.

shivsood: That's the plan. I'd like it to be as close to reality as possible. Goin2Chicago: Thanks, I'll try and get that fit in, there's quite a few malls in the are I'm doing right now, so you should see it soon. A quick question, do any of you know how to get agriculture demand back up? I have a lot already, but I need to add significantly more for it to look right.

Ok, here's a quick update of my progress so far. This is the extreme southwest corner of the region showing Florida City, and the beginning of the Florida Turnpike. There is a lot of agriculture in this area which you will see in some future pictures. Also, I need to find a good mall on STEX, but I haven't been able to, so if anyone knows of a good one please let me know.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I hope to have something for you real soon! pickled_pig: I haven't really considered how to create a swamp, something I need to do. packersfan: I plan on hand-terraforming the whole thing. It's very difficult to creat a map from USGS that has the exact scale I want. Also, because the highest point in Miami-Dade is 15ft above sea level, I'll only need to terraform the coasts.

Some of you may recall my Miami-Dade CJ that I started last summer. Unfortunately, when I moved at the end of the summer back to school, my computer crapped out, so I lost pretty much everything. It wasn't all bad though as there were things about that CJ that I didn't like and wanted to change. So, this is my second (and hopefully my last) attempt at Miami-Dade County. This city journal will be 12 x 16 large cities (3072 square kilometers, 1185 square miles) encompassing Florida City and Homestead at the south all the way up to the Dade/Broward boundary in the north. I hope you all are patient because I'm starting in the south this time. I figure I'll build up demand through the farming areas as I move north. I've finished the transportation network in the first 2 city squares, so expect an update soon! Here's a quick preview of the area I'll be recreating:

Does Anyone have the pictures for thy451's tutorials?

it's pretty rude to bump your own thread five times. -
One thing to note is that while suburbs generally look very random, the general structure is still a grid. Take a look at a few of the real life pictures cybersite posted and you can see the "supergrid" with meandering streets inside. So, downtown you might have a supergrid block that is grided inside, however in the suburbs, that same supergrid is filled with dead-end neighborhoods.

That's 256x256, 128x128, 64x64. So, 65536, 16384, 4096

Ok everyone an update should be coming very soon. The reason it's taking so long is that I'm currently working on the Dowtown/Brickell area which probably has some of the most compicated highway interchanges I've ever seen. I'm also dealing with puttin in all of the oneway roads in downtown and little havana. MidtownFreak20: I've looked on stex and haven't really found any Miami buildings, so for now I'm going to use the in game ones or any of the ones on stex that are similar. Of course if anyone would like to BAT some buildings for me...

generally I'll just edit my post and say something like deleted for repost I'm sure no one will mind that much
-
you know you could have just edited your first post right? And try looking on page 4 of this topic, look at the bottoms of the posts and you'll see a few .zip files

ok, but the diagonal avenue exits the intersection a tile to the right of the orthoganal avenue, would that cause a problem?
-
to keep it on 2 tiles I'd go with no 1
-
MidtownFreak20: I'm trying to make the downtown exits and streets as realistic as possible, of course I'm unable to make exits off of the highway from the inside lanes, so that takes away from the realism a little. In response to both you and otla1 my original goal was to make the city as is, and that's still what I'll be doing first. After I finish traffic will of course be bad. To relieve this, I will start building new infrastructure based on miami-dade's master plan for the next 15 years. It is my intention to see how successful their plans would be in the simcity environment.

I really like the way you changed the island from past to present. Also you might want to look for a program called region census, it lets you take seamless pictures of the enitre region instead of pasting multiple screenshots together.
