Something new in something old. How about using Deadwods' Raised Parks? The result will be really interesting, because now the Sims can enjoy more green and safety when they're between the skyscrapers.

Oh, by the way... If you notice this paragraph in the Deadwods' Raised Parks link...

    Dependencies

All dependencies for all Deadwoods' lots, including this one, can be found in the DEDWD Master Dependency List found on the BSC LEX. This list includes a BSC Cleanitol TM file that will scan your hardrive for the required files.

Ignore the dependencies in the readme.

... please ignore it. You don't need to download tons of dependencies just for the raised parks, because the parks doesn't have any of them. Everything you need is in the readme. Don't ignore the readme, just ignore the above paragraph.

This is the result of my "expensive, boring, unrealistic, terrible, stupid" experimental skyscraper district layout :P

More in my city journal :)

I like having the skyscrapers not too close each other, because I want to see what's going on the city. Also I want my Sims to see the sky and not buildings, buildings and more buildings :)

skyscraper sprawl and loads of green inbetween, with submerged transport.

wont get much more futuristic than that

Same idea, this time reversed and grid-less.

Sometimes, if you need an idea about city layout, look on the floor.

    12389197773_9a9f4fe5bf_o.jpg

    12389056145_00521be984_o.jpg

    12389203753_6f71372e51_o.jpg

I have more ideas, like this one, based on floor designs. They're coming up. This layout more streets and less roads, so I think it would be perfect for low density cities. Something like this...

    12389082255_959aaa606d_o.jpg

    12389512524_9de994ebb9_o.jpg

    12389079465_5f45fb8f7c_o.jpg

Let's use the central blocks for civic services, like hospitals and parks, and use the rest space for homes, offices and shops. We can even build bus stops and subway stations on the top of the roads, to encourage Sims using the mass transit.

    12389506634_6f43a96abc_o.jpg

    12389510124_51cc086ac6_o.jpg

But what about heavier density zones? What about C.B.D.s and industrial zones? I think we can use a variation of the above design. For example, we can replace the streets with roads and the roads with avenues. There are many possibilities... like this one!

If they are put close together it will block the sunlight to the lower levels considering the height of those buildings, also the point of the thread is creativity so nothing wrong with any combinations really :)

Life is what we make it :)

The only real world place that comes to mind close to this idea is Las Vegas I use that example since the example was New York. Though over the last 9 years it had started to cluster closer together. They are still spaced out very much. Mostly because the buildings though tall are long too. When I get on my computer I'll post a picture that is similar to what this person is working on.

Here is what I'm working on that though the layout of the roads and such doesn't match the concept but... open spaces.

I like clusters like Los Angeles, but cities like Los Vegas are also interesting. Tehy even have tall casinos scatered around the entire valley build right into residential neighbor hoods.

More than futuristic, it could look retro-futuristic.

During the 19th century, a guy called Ildefons Cerdà had more or less the same ideas Terring is showing: a regular and squared streets pattern, parks scattered here and there in also a regular pattern, inner courtyards with a kind of "garden zones" inside, chamfered corners, roads wide enough to let the light in, roads with a clear hierarchy between them (a bit like we currently do in SC4), regular attached housing blocks maximum 4 stages high... This man is regarded as one of the first urban planners, an urbanism pioneer.

His ideas were futurist and radical back then, but they were applied in Barcelona when the city walls came down. If you look a city map, all the city center squared pattern follows these concepts, which are not so distant of Terring's. The project lost a lot of its features during the 20th century until what we know today, but his ideas remain; and keep looking futuristic to some.

Cool job! I really need to know where to get that sunken building with a kind of station into it!!

Would like to ask what terrain mod you are using? And does it look that way because you are at a higher elevation?

Been looking for a similar terrain texture but they always seem to be at higher elevations. I'd like to find one that looks like that at the lower levels just above sea level, and I'm not familiar with modding terrain textures yet.

I think not, decentralization is good for both traffic and development.

Very nice thread, making a modernist dream true it seems! :P it reminded me of the "Plan Voisin" of Corbusier, and FLW's plans I'll try out something

As much as I don't believe in the Modernist Postulate, I do think it's impressive and Sc4 is a great canvas to try out :D

I've experimented with skyscraper districts a long time ago. That time I've built something like this:

    coastcity10mei125131282.png

I really liked the idea of skyscrapers in big parks and in this case it was possible because I had enough space, however I don't build districts like this anymore because of the space it takes. I also like building separate parks better. Even though I don't do these projects anymore this doesn't mean that my Central Business District is one dense collection of skyscrapers. I often choose to build small parks and plaza's between the buildings.

I also like malls, they could provide a lot of jobs and they don't really have that much height. This would have serious effects on your skyline. Another mall that is really nice is the it doesn't have a lot of job but it is a sunken mall. You could play with different heights like Terring did as well but this is on a smaller scale.
