Well how often do I pop in there now? The first time in the past few weeks was last night at 4:30 in the morning.

A new feature of 6.0, which they're already testing on various staff members- the ability to edit posts that have not yet been made:

abcvsdelorean.png

Okay, so actually, this is the result of posts getting moved - the time of posting changes to the time it was moved, but any recorded edit times are unaltered. And it's happened before. No big deal, but still amusing. 21.gif

On a not-so-related note: why does he have a (warning: slang term you've probably never heard before ahead) Johnny pump as his avatar now? Is the nursey boy now a firefightery boy? 34.gif

Yeah, adding that last part was just an excuse to use the term "Johnny pump".

No, I believe he's memorializing the fire hydrant--I mean, Johnny pump--that was in the old banner.  There were a few words of tribute in his sig yesterday...right decent of you, Craig.  It's those who stand by quietly prepared, enduring all manner of dogs'  indecent acts, ready at any moment to supply needed life and property saving waters, who are the unsung heroes of every corner.  16.gif  Er...something like that.  41.gif  Anyway, here's to ol' Johnny--he was a good plug.

Did I just answer Duke's question...that's gotta be a first.  47.gif

I could not have put it better myself.

Except I do not intend to immortalise the 5.0 hydrant for ever... probably by the end of this week I will probably find the need to move on... to something well er... lets just say... sixy.

Ah, so we'll get a visual change sooner or later.

Am I right in assuming that'll be the last thing that will happen when the upgrades are complete?

I remember the 4 to 5 upgrade. That was around Jan-Feb 2006, correct? The site was down roughly a week or two.

Like half of the stuff on STEX seemed to either be lost, unaccessable, or unsearchable after the upgrade. I remember the whole ludicrous thing where somewhat wanted all re-uploaded files to first have permission from their creators, naturally half of them being no longer active on the site.quote>

That was a bit of a freak occurrence. It was only because dirk decided to change from idealBB to FuseTalk, so he took it offline for a few weeks so the database could be migrated.

I really liked how 4.0 looked, it was a bit of a shame it didn't really hang around long... but hey, at least it's easier for Dirk to do updates - he doesn't have to take the site offline for such a long period for a while yet, because everything's probably all set up so he can do one small change at a time, rather than everything all at once.

    It's a win-win situation, folks! 3.gif

I wonder what the banner will look like and whether it'll be like the 4.0 banner - changing with the seasons?

My main concern with this, and any other website, is security. Hopefully, we won't have any more compromises like we did last year (or was that the year before?)

    There's sixes everywhere! My eyes!

    Why couldn't it be π or §?

Regardless of my complaining, Spring Break starts next week! 39.gif

(Yes I'm celebrating early... maybe I'm still jittery from the snow back in December.)

Edit: hmm... I also wonder what happens when I click the link on the calander?

Hmm. That calendar has been there since the upgrade to 5.0 in April of 2006, but it's never actually been used for anything before.

Another interesting tidbit: it goes back to before it existed. It goes back to before Simtropolis existed. It goes back to before the world wide web existed.

The pressing question is: how far back can it go? I got it back to March 1990 and then I got bored of clicking.

Okay, I got as far back as December 1898.

Since it's the first rule of the internet, here's some proof:

    1898.jpg

Now, I must go to work...Lets see if anyone else can get further!

Be warned, your fingers will hurt.

    Brian2.jpgBrian: You got it?

Brad2.jpgBrad: Almost... yes! Now, to power up the flux capacitor... Hit the hydrogen!

    ...

Brian2.jpgBrian: Odd, it only goes back to 1753 for some reason.

Brad2.jpgBrad: Any attempt to go back further results in an error...

    1753.png

    Brian2.jpgBrian: There are links, too.

    Edit:

Brad2.jpgBrad: 9999 is the farthest it will go into the future...

umm... yeah... I'm still keeping the Page Flip Bug in my signiture for a while...

    Oh, very very nice.

I like the Twitter integration - but may I ask, what's with the extra status bar on the ST homepage? It tends to lag scrolling a little bit on that page...

    Woah...It's all so....Clean...

    I like it.

I really like the retro-ish feel of it!

EDIT: I just noticed the STEX says version 5.0. Is this a glitch or has the Stex been different?

EDIT2: Just noticed all the new tools in the reply box. Very Cool!!!

Wow, I like what you've done with the place, Dirk. It's very up-to-the-minute virtual city-ish. Oh, I see you've already hung up my avatar. It looks like home now. 18.gif Where do you want me to put this box?

    Shakes box, it rattles.

Ooops, hope there was nothing fragile in there. 20.gif

Looks like we can preview our posts, upload to Imageshack, insert Flash and YouTube, sweet! I'm sure there's a lot more I haven't noticed yet.

Heads back out to get another box, gets on cell to order pizza.

I'm sure you're hungry after all that hard work, right? Thanks, Dirk and all.

Thanks Dirk, and all involved in the upgrade, it looks great !!!

One question (well 2), is there a reason the homepage doesn't fill up the width of the screen but the forums do?

And whats the facebook-ish bar at the bottom of the homepage?

Thanks for your dedication to this site44.gif
