malibu_man: Your screen resolution may be too small.

Right click on your desktop.

Choose properties

Go to the Settings tab, (in XP) or in choose the Display Settings (in Vista)

adjust the slider bar to the right.

The resolution 1024x768 is plenty to view this site, but larger ones are more optimal.

Actually Jake. I found that with my old pc that has a monitor with a maximum resolution of 1024x768, there were problems with viewing the page. My guess would be that this is casued by the toolbar on the very left of this page that includes links to the chatroom, favourites, etc. The actual width of the forum is 1024x768 while that toolbar adds on extra.

Luckily, I am on my laptop most of the time and have a higher native resolution.

Am I the only one for whom the STEX isn't working at all? The masthead is ok, and so is the STEX Selections mask on the right hand of the screen. The menu to the left is working as well.

Everything else, however, most importantly the actual STEX List, behaves like an empty background. The mouse cursor remains an arrow, doesn't indicate any link, and nothing is clickable at all.

I'm using Opera 9.64 with Java Runtime Environment 1.6 Update 15 on a WinXP Service Pack 3 machine with DIrectX 9.0c. I already tried logging off, deleting cookies, and logging back on - to no avail. Any ideas?

In the CJ Section, there seems to be a problem, where the white background doesn't contunie to the bottom of the page, just a grey background. I know it's only minor, but I just thought I'd point it out

Something strange is going on, at least for me. It appears that every post in the forums is appearing twice, and the end of some threads are cut off.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

Thanks, this is just one of a few small updates coming out this week, we had a bumpy start as posts were being duplicated but that bug got squashed.

The whole underlining thing is another new error, it doesn't seem to happen everywhere though, but I'm tracking it down.  4.gif

Nope. Verison numbering doesn't work that way. You can't have a 6.5 until you've had a 6.1, 6.2, 6.3,and 6.4.

Now, if you want to call it ST 6.1, then that would be fitting.

Another thing I noticed which I find intriguing:

privtopics.png

Now, I certainly haven't made 774 private topics, so this logically must be the total of private topics started by all users. Interesting!

Also interesting is that the displayed topic totals appear to include old topics which have "dropped of the page".

And, on that note, the drop of the page time seems to have increased to an even two years, as opposed to the "it'll randomly disappear after anywhere between 12 and 24 months, usually by 14 or 15" it used to be (I suspect it was always supposed to be two years and that that was just a bug that's now been fixed).

Yep mine is the same as Duke's comment.

I dunno if this was intentional, or if was brought up before, but would it be possible to swap the topic link colors? So the unread is in dark blue, and the read is in light blue (so the emphasis is on unread threads)?

In the profile settings page, all of the entries in the Province/State field are listed twice (i.e. "The Yukon, The Yukon, Alabama, Alabama, Alaska, Alaska, Arizona, Arizona," and so on).

Now I can't search anything! For example, if I search for "water pump" I get:

Your search contained ignored words, ignored words are words like a,and,to,between. Please re-construct your search without these ignored words.

<< back

But there are no ignored words.

On that note, since when do Yukon and Northwest Territories have the definite article in front of their names? 47.gif

I have the same issue, most of the SimMars sticky threads have more than one page. Opening them results in the same and requires to click the main thread again to go to page 1 first.

Also the quick links to the forums on the left side of the main page are not working anymore, but I guess you are aware of that.

I like the new forum structure!

I've noticed that on the homepage, the recent city journals links take you to the table of contents for the CJ, not the update it mentions. (Like it used to) Is it supposed to be like this? Does anyone else have this problem? If not, then I guess I'm just mentioning a bug for you guys.

Yes, this is kitty.

I have t say well done an the updates to the site this week, Dirk and all of the admins. The site looks better than ever.

I also want to ask what's up with the points thing on my profile? it says --points and when I hover, it says that it's calculating my points. Is this a new user rating system or something?

EDIT:I'd also like to point out that there are still some visual problems with the cityjournal section. I know you probably know this already, but just in case...!

I would like to second this. Not only the advanced search, the normal search is broken too, and it's a long time now. This should be fixed, as it seriously degrades the functionality of the site.

I would also like to post two requests:

- Is it possible to disable those news bands at the bottom of the page? Ideally on a per user basis (in the user's Personal Options). This should make the site faster too (as a result of fewer requests/deliveries).

- When you update only the description in a STEX upload, the "Updated:" field should not be updated. Many times you have to update an upload only for correcting a spelling error, add a tip or update a dependency link. And this isn't just a "decorative" thing, people may click the "Recent Updates" button to check for updates of their downloads. So the "Updated:" field should be changed only for the real updates (when the .zip file is reuploaded). I know it's actually a different operation, the description-only update is immediate, while the content update is scheduled for the next update cycle. It would be best to extend this to the images too (ie updating the images should be considered a description-only update). Don;t know if this last one is really easy to change though.

I think these would actually make the site better.

EDIT: It would also be nice to put a Search box in the threads pages, not just in the categories.
