It is the same for me, right now.  It may be disabled 2.gif

I updated to Opera 10.0 yesterday (on a WinXP pro system w/ latest Java etc.), but still no improvement. The main section of the STEX behaves like a background image. Nothing can be clicked or highlighted. No functionality at all, the STEX is completely unusable for me.

When I enter a particular download via the front page or via the right-hand selection of latest uploads, everything works fine. It's just the STEX main view that's affected.quote>

What about in internet explorer, or firefox?

The dropdown menu seems to work flawlessly now!  And verysmooth when it comes out. 3.gif

It's hard to track because I reckon there have been STEX updates going on continuously (after all, the STEX is taken down for maintenance once in a while, so when it comes back, I assume that something may have changed).

At the same time, I have been updating Opera to the latest version whenever an update became available.

That's why I'm not really able to tell whether a change in the STEX or a change in Opera caused the problem.

IIRC, I was using Opera 9.65 when the STEX stopped working for me. A later Opera update didn't change anything, and neither did the update to 10.0.

On the other hand, Nardo69 claims that the STEX works for him with Opera 9.64.

So it might be a change in Opera that occurred between 9.64 and 9.65, or a change in the STEX that occurred not too loing (maybe 1-2 weeks) before my first related post.

@ SWAT-MEDIC: Of course I can use IE or FF, but I hate changing browsers all the time, and the problem puzzles me a bit. After all, ST 6.0 was the first version that appeared to support Opera completely. It was a huge step forward, and it proved the possibility to support IE, FF and O alike. Now if any minor issue had arisen, ok... no sweat. Such a fundamental problem, however, is rather surprising - and it's certainly not due to technical limitations that cannot be overcome. After all, it had already been working fine! That's why I'm nagging a bit... 2.gif

Works well for me in IE, Firefox, and Safari. It didn't at first for Safari. But throughout the night last night it finally worked completely and continues to appear correctly on all 3 browsers.

The dropdown feature works well in Opera 10, too. 1.gif

OK, the drop-down feature is working for me now. Thanks!

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

As T Wrecks claimed the STEX as well as the forums are working fine with my Opera 9.64.

However I have a problem when using Opera for the New Cityjournal section. If a large CJ like Schulmanator's Schulmania appears in the list Opera stops loading. It does not freeze - you can click on the already loaded CJs or stop and go back - but all CJs below that large CJ won't load or show.

From time to time it doesn't load the comments but asks me to save a file to my pc. Before typing this reply it was the first time that Opera 9.64 loaded the comments. Now I would like to know if newer versions of Opera have the same problem.

Okay, there's some really funky stuff going on here.

Sometimes, I'll click a forum link, and it'll take me to the wrong place. Clicking on the link to the Current Events forum takes me to Cities XL forum. Clicking on the last page link for this thread takes me to a different thread entirely, I had to click to the first page and then on "last unread" within the thread to get here.

And not only that, but whenever I'm taken to the wrong place, suddenly I appear to be logged in as someone else. I took this screenshot:

In case my reply shows up as by the wrong person (which doesn't seem too unlikely right now!), this is Duke87.

Not really a bug just a small thing to point out in the MOTM Announcement on the home page it states...

The August 2009 EOTM and MOTM awards have been selected and can be seen in the awards thread! Take a moment to congratulate the winners and don't forget to submit a nomination for the July awards! Congratulations to the winners once again!quote>

Shouldn't it say September seeing is how we just did August or was July's never done?

Today I took a closer look at the STEX problem and discovered something interesting. The problematic area extends over various control elements and is basically rectangular. I took a screenshot and highlighted the non-functional area in red:

Image displaying STEX error (click to enlarge)

As you can see, the middle part is affected, but also the right-hand box below a certain Y coordinate - the latter is particularly interesting.

As for those parts that are partly inside and partly outside the non-functional area, they are actually split into a functional and a non-functional part. For example, the far right end of the "STEX Collections" button works, the rest of the button doesn't.

An even more extreme case is the "Forum" button with the tiny dropdown symbol. The leftmost one or two pixels of that dropdown symbol actually work and bring up the entire forum selection - which works perfectly, btw. The rest is non-functional.

Whoa, wait a second... while I'm at it, there's another glitch with the Smiley selection - I just wanted to insert one and found this (error inside the box I inserted into the image):

Image displaying the smiley selection problem

As you see, there's a transparent gap where the last row(s) of Smileys should be. Does anybody else get the same error?

Well, being no stranger to forums I realize if I ask a question that has been asked before I'll get the backlash of all the jaded experienced members telling me to use the search function before asking something....but.

Search doesn't seem to work.  I'm trying to search the sim city 4 technical issues area and it just keeps telling me my search contained ignored words?

Try using the Google Search at the top of every page (Just below where your avatar is at the top right). The built-in forum software search is a little buggy, as your_adress_here mentioned. 4.gif

basically, to put what they're saying in context, the search function hates life so don't be afraid to just go ahead and ask questions 4.gif

Ok thanks. Was looking for a way to make Sim City 4 run faster on my pc. I think I found what I wanted. Installed into program files 64 bit folder, ran in compatibility mode, and turned on software renderer. Still not the speed I'd like but I guess the game is just flawed 4.gif.

I'm surprised nobody's come across this glaringly obvious spelling error:

spellingerror.jpg

Spelling should be "architecture".

Disregard the fact that it appears to be halfway though its animation. 3.gif

I'm fairly sure this has been reported, but in the ST Exchange, as soon as the bottom bar shows up, I can't click anything in the center (aka, the items in the STExchange). If this has been reported already, don't kill me!!

Jake, are you using Opera? If so, we can shake hands - your problem sounds suspiciously like mine. I described it in this post a few entries further up on this page. Is it similar for you?

Yes, I believe that's the problem I'm having too.

Though I'm not using Opera. I'm currently using Firefox 3.5.2.

I'm also using Windows 7, if that changes anything. Oh, and I have a 64bit system.

I don't have the problem, using Firefox 3.5.2, just like you (though 3.5.3 is apparently available), however, I have a more outdated computer, being a Windows XP, which I think is better then Vista.

On another note, the STEX search appears to have broken down yet again. I haven't been able to use it since yesterday. Anyone else?

It works fine for me, perhaps it is a localised problem or browser related.

I just want to say that Windows 7 is far better then Windows Vista.

But I upgraded to Firefox 5.2.3, and I'm still having the problem with the STEX. T Wrecks, what's your OS?

Never mind - turns out it was cookie-related. Logging out and back in fixed it.

@ Jake_Lava: I'm using WinXP Pro SP3 32-bit.
