Tropico 3!

I just finished playing through the two scenarios in the demo and I have this to say about the game: Totally. Awesome.

First, I have to say that the game looks spectacular. Once you load into a scenario the environments look absolutely stunning. You'll need a pretty decent rig to see all the graphical glory, but it is worth it just to pan around the maps and take in the views.

Second, the game plays well. Once you get through the tutorial (which is a little slow, but very helpful) it's a breeze to hop into the first mission and start plopping buildings and issuing edicts. Controls are straightforward; the camera is easy to move around; and it's an absolute delight to place curved roads and angled buildings using nothing but the mouse. There's still some learning to do beyond the tutorial, but that's just part of the game. As you progress you find yourself delving deeper and deeper into the nuances of your island paradise (or police state).

Third, the game has some real depth. It's a tricky balancing act trying to keep the various factions happy with you (and therefore not turning into rebels who could attack and overthrow you). It can also be a real challenge to set up a proper economy early on without dropping into the red. Combine these things with the deceptively simple task of trying to provide jobs and homes for the growing population and you've got the makings of a really fascinating, challenging and rewarding gameplay experience.

There are some things that aren't available in the demo. The most obvious being the tourism buildings and most of the higher-end residential and industrial structures are locked. You also aren't able to use the "keep playing" button once you've met the objectives of a scenario. It is, of course, a demo, but these things really made me want to purchase the full game immediately.

It took me four hours to play the second scenario and even longer for the first. The Tropico 3 demo gave me a heck of a lot of gameplay, but as a demo it did it's job and made me want to buy this game. There are achievements I haven't gotten, buildings I haven't been able to place, economic options I haven't tried, plenty more scenarios to complete, and an entire sandbox mode that I'd love to get my hands on. If the game were available to buy now, I would buy it. It is, bar none, the most fun game of its type I've played since SC4. My recommendation: get the demo now and play the heck out if it because once you start you won't be able to get enough until the full game is released.

I just played the demo all night last night, it's really addictive. It's kinda easy IMO, but it was fun. I enjoyed the two Campaign thingies. Can't wait to get my hands on the actual game though 9.gif

It's a series of strategy games where essentially you're the dictator err president of a small Caribbean nation... and you plop buildings sorta like in Simcity, and it takes place during the Cold War so you can decide to either orient yourself towards the US Capitalists or USSR communists. And there are different factions of people: Intellectuals, Militarists, Religious, Environmentalists, etc.

This game is particularly a milestone since the past 2 games were in the Simcity4-view, and this one is 3d... and the freight docks look really nice. 25.gif Instead of that rickety old wooden thing on the other games 3.gif

Yep! Tropico3 is GREAT!

It's incredibly beautiful and perfectly styled, fun and entertaining. All the things missing from CitiesXL.Now I know these are totally different games, but those qualities are irrespective of their genre differences. Those are dependent of professionalism of the team making the game...

I have played both the demo to Tropico (when it first came out but I much preferred SC4-D at the moment so I did not buy the full game) and Tropico 3. I love the new game but I had a little bit of difficulty with the mining campaign. I love the humor and history but the graphics (and the roads, which I believe are bezier curves as opposed to splines, to a lesser extent) take the cake! I surely will buy the full game when it hits shelves (hopefully I can get it for sale at Fred Meyer's).

I've been trying this game since last Saturday and I loved it from the begining, differently of Cities XL. The tutorials and the game are really beautiful and cool to play. I played the Banana's Island and I am still playing because I don't want to stpo when meeting all those needs in campaign... Certainly I'll buy the game.

after playing this for a couple of days, all I can say is that I WANT MORE. this game demo did what a demo is supposed to do.I was not bored and the graphics look amazing!!!!!

I imagine sandbox mode ("free mode") will be something great too since the missions were so great. first day buyer here. and not to be biased, i've never played any of the Tropico games before and have been a long time player of simcity (since sc2000 came out!), but cities xl can go DIAF.

I just downloaded the demo from Steam and played it for the past 3-4 hours and I must say I really enjoyed it, best of all it is bug free.  4.gif

Oh and yes I read into it while I was dl it that it is only single player but it sounds like they will have a server where you can add your scores I'm not sure what else it will offer though.

Just downloaded it last night. I'm quite impressed. It's a great little game. Lots of fun and true to the original. I particularly found the tropical scenery impressive. In a few places it reminded me of a recent vacation I had in Cuba. I actually found myself not wanting to develop parts of the island so as to perserve the natural beauty! I think I'll be buying this one when it comes out.

It impressed me more than the Cities XL demo, that's for sure. I'm a big fan of the first Tropico game so I'll be sure to get my hands on a copy of this one once released!

Already it tops the first Tropico.

Best feature of all (by far): CARS. No more waiting for the construction workers to walk halfway across the island and work for less than a minute!

My favorite small detail: When you activate the nuclear testing edict, the entire island turns a red-ish tint!

Funniest thing about the game: The radio announcer guy. HILARIOUS.

I have played the demo, and trust me, it's amazing and nothing like SCS (lol I bought it I played it for litterally 5 minutes and then planned on giving it away), the graphics are good, everything is good, I would highly recommend you get it when it comes out, cause I know I will. 9.gif

I have high hopes for this game.

Everyone is saying that the demo is awesome. I REALLY need to look into this demo. Really hope they don't have a 4 hour downloading period, only to get a fractured file every time like CXL.14.gif From what I've seen, this game looks incredible! And did I hear something about a sandbox mode? Would someone fil me in? I would like to know more.

Gotta download...   gotta download...  gotta download...

Game looks awesome. It makes u think if only we could have a full city builder like xl or sc with those graphics and depth. If you could combine elements of XL,SimCity and Tropico you would have the ultimate builder. A few years though I suppose for that to happen.

Anyways on a side note. Is anyone else have the problem of the graphics looking way too bright and blurry during the day? I have all the graphic options to the highest and my comp is a beast so it can take it. Anyone else having this problem?

Sandbox mode is like a free mode, you build your island without any goals or anything, and it will never end, and no, I didn't have any problems with the graphics.

Downloaded quite quickly for me from Gamespot and I don't have a premium membership...do have cable internet though.  but most people do now don't they?

I agree that the demo definitely did it's job and whetted my appetite for full game.

I enjoyed the original Tropico quite a lot and am looking forward to release of this game.

Played the game.... definitely my kind of caper. The Graphics are stunning even if the Nuclear Test was a little B-Movie-ish.

Yeah, I managed to get my hands on it. Its as if somebody made a game called "Anno 1950" ...  I can't compare it to the Demo since I never played the Demo, but its very addictive despite the lack of building options, repetitive gameplay, vague resource collecting and boring campaign missions. The details in the world are awesome however... it looks like the developers spent the majority of their time perfecting a living world, where the islanders have homes, jobs, opinions, and families, all which you can track down and persecute in your own way.48.gif

I've been waiting for this game for long. Alas, I can't play the demo due to DX9 card error. I have GeForce 8400 Mobile on dell XPS 1330. It should be enough. Anyone know the workaround for this? I really like tropico 1. Therefore, I look forward to this game.

I just tried the demo. I love it. It's interesting. But I was new to the game, so I didn't understand it at first, but really fun in the end. Loved the first mission. Never have I loved the farms more. Never have I jumped for joy when the larger frieghter ship arrives. Could use a little more variety on the housing. Then again, the maps aren't big so no biggie.

I'm new so some questions here. Tropico 3 only has missions. Can you rule an island forever in the series? Can you have more than 200 people on an island on a typical or a significant population on a map?

I guess that's it. Gonna relive the moments =D.

frdcklim,Tropico 3 has a lot more missions, and it also has a Sandbox Mode, where you can rule for however long you want. You can have up to 1,000 people,I think. There is also a map generator,so islands will probably be bigger.
