Before I get started, let me say that the new CJ section would get rid of the "volumes" in your CJ.  You can transfer everything over from volumes 1 and 2 as well as post new updates (your volume 3).  I took me about an hour to post about 100 updates from a thread-based CJ so consider this as you contemplate how to move everything over.

1. As a viewer, do you like how the new CJ section displays threads? What about this format do you like or dislike? And, how might the new format be put to use in a way to make viewing easier/better for you?quote>

As a viewer, the new section is much easier for the user to find updates that are not the latest ones.  Remember that this is not a thread-based jounral, but a section-based one.  This allows updates to be organized into "entries" rather than posts and you are able to comment on whatever entry you like.

However, comments do not increase your post count on the fourms because the new CJ section is not on the forums.  This can be a blessing or a curse to a member, because some don't want to increase their post count too much while others comment on CJs in order to increase their post count.

The ability to rate a CJ lets you have an impact on the CJ's overall status as well.  If you like the CJ, you can give it a high rating to tell others that this is a good CJ.  If you hate it, you can give it a lower rating telling other viewers that it isn't the best one out there.  This works for the higher rated CJs out there, but those with a lower rating can make the authors feel sad, but tells them that they can improve on them.

2. As a CJ creator, how do you like the new CJ section? What new features have you taken advantage of? Any challenges in the new format? How has it (if it has) changed how you do a CJ?quote>

Like I said earlier, I moved my whole CJ over there in about an hour.  I love the blog-styled format and it doesn't take a long time to get used to how the new section works.  There's no longer a need for "placeholders" as you can just add to an entry and whatnot or just make a new entry if you wish.

The new CJ section also enables you to respond to comments whenever you wish.  If you did this on the thread-based journals, people would think that you are just replying to comments in order to bump your CJ to the top.  That's why many CJers respond to comments when they update or wait until they get a lot of comments to respond.  If updates are few and far between, it can take too long to get back to someone who asked a question or something, and if they are not a regular member they might have left the site because you didn't get back to them after a ceratin time.

There's also no need to make a table of contents, which is a job I hate to do.  It's automatic with the new setup and will update when you post a new entry.  Posting a new entry does not increase your post count,  same goes when responding to comments.

When you post a new entry, your CJ will be bumped to the top.  If you or someone else posts a comment, the CJ will not bump but will show as the top CJ in the "recent CJs" ranking which can be found to the right of the main CJ page and the ST homepage.

I'll say it again, posting comments will show up on the home page, just not in the ticker where the posts in the threads are shown, but the CJ section to the right.

The rating system can also help you as a CJer.  If your rating is average or low, people are telling you have room to imorove.  If your rating is higher, then you should keep doing fine if you do the same thing.

For the time being I would suggest keeping the thread-based CJ active while you are learning in the new CJ section.  Its also going to take both authors and viewers time to get used to new section rather than a one based on the forums.

Anyways I hope this helps!  Good luck!

Best,

-Haljackey

1: as viewer I like more the new section, because it able people to chose which update they want to comment, wish is good if we get less active sometimes.

2:as a CJer, (if I am lol) I haven't much to say about this, it the same about the viewer.. it allows you t have your updated organized and check the comments better 4.gif

A big thank you to all who have responded to my informal survey. Please do feel free to continue to respond. Your feedback has been very useful thus far in helping me map out a strategy for Schulmania Volume 3. A new update will be up soon. Be looking for an announcement!

Oh, before I forget: Admiral Hestorb is QUITE unamused with the new Facebook formatting. So, she is discontinuing her Facebook page and instead has a new blog just for her located at: http://admiral-hestorb.blogspot.com/. Go check it out!

And now, on to the replies.

Hester No updates as of yet… the reports are written in invisible ink.

Hester Thanks! Happy April Fools Dayb. The B is for Bargain!

Leech10 Birthday?! Do I get some cake out of this?

edmonton_stinks lolb! The B is also for bargain!

NMUSpidey You know us, always trying to keep you healthy and strong!

Gn_leugim Obrigado! I am delighted you like it.

    Hester That’s her favorite flavor!

Leech10 Indeed! It is sort of like a cider press, but without the annoying cores and seeds.

Wrightguy0 Yes! You have been healed by Dr. Nick! Here’s some footage of how a neighbor was healed:

sobol Hmmm… sounds like a disinformation campaign is in order. I have hired us a spokesman to get the press off of our secret plans:

Benedict You are certainly moving up… as well you should. You have been a regular viewer since the inception in 2006. Official post awards are due after page 100, which is not far away at all now.

Leech10 That’s the miracle of Dr. Nick!

Hester She thanks you for the kind sentiment.

panthersimcity4   Muchas Gracias from the Supreme Wirdle!

Leech10 She thanks the boys for their kind words.

NMUSpidey She thanks you and she is glad she could revive your Big Orange Spirit!

Wrightguy0 Awesome! I know she will enjoy that!

Jacqulina Thanks! And she thanks you for your kind birthday wishes.

Korot  In cat years, she is more ancient than the sphinx. It’s a good thing she gets 9 lives! As for the Wird-L-Cube, it seems easy. But, as you turn the cube, paws pop out at you at random, increasing the complexity greatly.

Gn_leugim Obrigado from the Supreme Wirdle!

Danielcote It is the Supreme Wirdle’s birthday!

Korot Yep! In Schulmania years, she is more than 10,000 years old (each post is a year in the Schulmania chronology).

Korot  Sometimes that holds true. It seems as if the lengthy process to get the ST archives online led to slow growth for a while. And then it picked back up again.

Dfnva Thanks! I feel your pain. Data is only fun if you like collecting it!

Leech10 Indeed! And I will add your new contributions to the next update.

Twenty20 La Wirdle a dit “Merci mille fois, Juliette!”

Patricius Maximus We do like being compelling! The Supreme Wirdle rules over Schulmania,  but as of yet is unaware of non-felinecentric nations. However, she has many affiliates working on Schulmania’s behalf through the Bureau of Feline Affairs. No doubt some of her minions are in Franklin. If there are cats whose whereabouts are unknown at all times, it is likely they have been filing reports with the BFA. Fear not, the surveillance is benevolent; she is only seeking to ensure that her feline associates receive the proper amount of petting and cat treats in areas out of her jurisdiction. That’s how shipments of Fancy Feast arrive all around the world; all is coordinated by a vast network of agents sort of like Santa’s workshop at the North Pole. At the magical Fancy Feast Factory, deliciously smelly meats are pulverized and canned, locking in the smelly goodness, and delivered to good cats all around the world. Friskies, on the other hand, arrives on a truck.

Mightygoose First, let me welcome you to Schulmania. I am glad to see you here and hope you will return. Next, let me thank you for your input. You have some excellent points about the new section.

Hester And to me as well.

Benedict Excellent points and valuable to me as well. I have noticed the comment bug. I have yet to be able to post any comments in the new section at all.

Rainyday Thanks! You make a good point about organization. I would love to have less to do on my end to set up a vast CJ.

Patricius Maximus I see your points, but I am not sure what you mean by marginalization of comments. Also, I am not sure about the ratings. I know there are some spiteful people who will lower ratings just to do it. And the commenting separation you mentioned will be a real pain for me to calculate post counts for awards and such. I will have to devise a solution for that to keep myself accurate.

Leech10 The post count awards will definitely get more complicated in the new section. I need to find a solution to that. Perhaps B&B could help me out with that one…

Haljackey Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the time you spent answering me in detail. I will most likely start Vol 3 fresh rather than add in 200 updates of stuff. I think you are right that finding older updates will be much easier in a new format like this one. That’s a real plus. You are right about the post count. Mine is high enough as it is, so I don’t worry about that. I wonder if it will be tweaked later for those who do worry about post counts. It is a real plus as well to not have to make an index. That grew to be a nightmare. I set aside a large space at the beginning of Volume 2 and it helped some but I outgrew that as well. I now have the website to serve as the main linking source. But, intra-thread, the new format will be a real plus indeed. Interesting about the thread positioning and bumping and such. I only wish one could see more threads on a page. You have a lot of good points. For now, I plan on sticking around in Vol 2. But, I am starting to think seriously about Vol 3.

Gn_leugim Thanks! You have good points on both of those.

Balkair Efaristo! TSW sends her warmest regards.

Danielcote My website is here: www.schulmania.info. Please feel free to visit it and explore Schulmania.

Sobol  Our new “spokesman” is telling everyone we are baking cookies… now we can continue our secret operations in secret. (Attention spies and double-agents: you did not see that!)

Hester  That means our new disinformation campaign is working!

Heh.  You don't know bunnies.  They have an innate desire to dominate anything they come into contact with, including cats.

Gandalf (not pictured) chases them.  And the cats usually flee when he goes after them too.  3.gif

There is a slight formatting issue with Hestorb's biography, it is the description below the picture with her throne, the description 'get in' the text.

An updated map is very much needed indeed, I asked for it in my first post here, approx 5 pages and a lot more posts ago. Apart form that, have you already looked into the formatting issue in Admiral Hestorb's Dutch biography?

Region Map 017: The Good Friday Map

The first new Schulmania map since August 2008 is now available! This is the first of two maps. This includes all eleven tiles Schulmania currently spans. I waited until after the SchulmaniQuest so that the last tile, with the Wirdleonia River (at lower left), could also be included. The map was actually made in February, but I did not want to spoil the outcome of the SchulmaniQuest. Hopefully, you will find it worth waiting for. And, in addition, the quality should be better. I finally got the Region Census so I could have the whole region in one picture at actual size.

The map is very large - the largest Schulmania map ever - so click on the thumbnail to see it in full size.

    thumbaa3.jpg

The left half of Wirdleonia is where the SchulmaniQuest took place. You may also note greater exploration of the interior of Tenne. No settlements are beyond the coastline at this point, though. You may be wondering where the missing twelfth tile is. Well, there is a reason it is not included. It will be apparent after a while what that is.

BTW, the Maps page on the Schulmania website has not been updated with these yet, so this is the only place you will see them!

More good news: another map will be coming shortly. The next will show the location of every city in Schulmania. No more wondering where Cedar Bluff is! And, you will also see a few cities not yet mentioned in the Schulmania narrative. Hehehehe!

Do you also have a non coloured map? It will greatly help looking at the cities in Schulmania. Yes, I know that you're making a city map aswell, but I want to see an unaltered one. Oh, and a larger one, IE: more pixels and/or a zoom option, to have a real good look at those interesting spots.

    Brad2.jpgBrad: Ow!

    Brian2.jpgBrian: Calm down.

    Brad2.jpgBrad: Map!

    *poke*

Brian2.jpgBrian: Korot, that map appears to be at the maximum zoom already... any zooming in would make it all blurry, unless pictures were taken from the city view and then pieced together.

Nice new map, fascinating to compare to older maps, showing how much has changed with the expansion of the kingdom... kind like it's interesting to see the United States evolve throughout its history.

My captain, great  conclusion of the SchulmaniQuest! Fantastic adventure!!!  I apologize for my disappearance here of the forum. I was busy moving my publications for the new forum of CJs, and I'm almost done. I do not intend to stop with my CJ, here. I intend to follow in both forums. I never forgot from my friends, only time I was away. And I intend to offset this with some new publications that I am doing, to publish here soon.I lost some updates of your CJ, but I enjoy them. They are magnificent. I was happy to know that will soon be publishing the new forum of CJs. My good friend Bruce, good luck to you ..., good luck to us! See you soon ...!!!

Nice map, I notice some new areas. Also, for your survey:

    1. I like how you can quickly choose between different updates

    2. I think it's nice, and allows people to comment on previous updates.

    Happy early Easter, Schulmania! 9.gif
