One of my 1st memories was wen simtropolis had the huge black out of 2003 , when they money problems arose , around november just after i joined , im surprised it didnt put me off , i checked every day to see if ST was back up , even though i had only been here for a week

AFter that the announcement of Sim_mars was very big , we had the good old recent reply bar then and i remember it being full of Sim mars posts , it was such a fun time , i remember posting after gou_rou and then wondering where her post went , only to find it was on the page before , 3.gif 10 people had replyed in the space of about 30 seconds 18.gif

After that its probobly Sam + Ry , i mean who could forget that event , the day that i came it kind of puzzled me why sams name had taken over the simtropolis banner oce i found the thread i had realised i missed it all 15.gif stupid time differences , i missed ry asking , sam answering , then the big party in the chat room shortly afterwards 1.gif

I will try think up of some more

My sexual attraction to trees. That was pretty funny.

Also, anything involving pwning Sonner&RiceGrad. And the occasional spam thread. And those really long argument htreads that popped up alot March 2004. The relese of BAT, and the re-design.

Probably a few others, but I forget them3.gif

Ohh my! Simtropolis memories, well, I have tons of them, too many to even list. But there are some that really stood out.

- When I first became a Chat Operator...

- When Ry proposed to Sam

- When Simtropolis Picture Hosting first opened

- My Signature & Avatar Thread

- Being a part of S & A Design Services

- Making loads of online friends that I can chat with

and much much more.

I agree with most you guys that the Ry Sam proposal had to be one of the greatest moments around here, can never forget such a thing 48.gif

AH, best memories.....

simtropolishit10k0xr.jpg

I remember I spent like almost the whole day in chat that day waiting for #10 000, and I left to grab some food for like 10 min and BAM! we were at 10 001 45.gif3.gif . Ah well, good times.

(I took that pic the next day, we actually hit 10k on August 13th)

Wow guys, you really did jog some memories!10.gif

Yeah, Sam & Ryan were the probably the #1 memory for me too.

I think I first saw SimTropolis as a true cybercommunity last year when the site went down for a few days and we all congregated back to home site (SimCity.com).   It was sort of like being knocked out of your home by a storm and seeking temporary shelter in a school building.  People's personalities and love for the site really came through as they were missing it.  Dirk even showed up.  I think it may have been the busiest day for RalphaelNinja for a loooong time.

I also openly acknowledge that I fell for the Click the Noise Button when STEX was down when I first joined.  21.gif I even made a post about it:

Many of the quirky personalities, when the egos don't get in the way, have made the site a lot of fun and has provided quite a few field days for me as a social worker.Insert src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/18.gif width=15 border=0>

I have to admit that I admire and am even somewhat jealous of the talent that's here at SimTropolis.  I don't know if I'll ever leave the job I do but it sure has been enjoyable seeing the work and the art created here.

For what it's worth, I just created a personal memory this past week when I posted a birthday card to my wife on the Off-Topic Birthday Thread.  She looked at and actually complimented me and it was nice.36.gif43.gif  I believe that was the first time she ever laid her eyes intentionally on SimTropolis!!!9.gif9.gif9.gif39.gif39.gif  Maybe I can now get her to watch a football game or go bowling and fishing with me!37.gif

Aww...I remember that screen very well. The nice gray background with red highlights here and there. I really liked the newest member and the population counter on the right, that was a nice touch.

And all the people that were there too. Thy451, karybdis, sharr and others who I assume no longer post here anymore; I haven't seen them here on ST in ages.

*sniff* 15.gif

I must say that I do miss the good ol' days.  There were a lot of people here that I never see anymore because they have left the site, I've grown busier, etc.  I think at one time I was the #3 or 4 poster here, but I can't validate that.

There are some people I would love to see return, but it's not going to happen.

So yeah, I think 2003/early 2004 was my favorite period here, but then again, the BAT scene is great and the modding scene is too; it's really hard to say.  Socially, my earlier days here were way better, but as far as game content goes, the present is the best, so I really can't say.

As for specific moments, debating Dereko until 6 in the morning on several different occasions in the Chat was fun because we were Huge Simtropolis Rebels.  What else...I had a CJ for a little while but lost interest in it because I got RH and because the theme was stupid.  Search for Trentsville if you want to see it, but it's really quite pathetic.  Note my profile...a second CJ may come out this summer if I can finish it.  Hmm...the proposal was cool, as well as the release of RH and the release of the BAT.  The first time I went into the Chat was a key moment, as I wasted countless hours of my life there.  I don't really Chat much anymore...that's all I can really think of.

well why dont we have a Nostalgia Day?

There have been alot of people that have joined since the site turn to 4.0 so why dont we go back for a day?

And i have to agree with Labby when i first joined [Early 04] was when we all had alot of fun and the future looked so bright with SC4 because of RH and all the custom stuff that EA came out with. But since then its kinda dropped off...

There are a few people that i do miss talking to... but there are people that im glad not to see again... like that one troll... hehe

It would be great if dirk went back to the 3.0 design, although I don't know if that's really all that possible. I've never grown into 4.0, but I have grown to accept it for what it is.

I agree with Yellow. So many of the great members of the past are gone. It seems like nobody knows who I am and I don't know who anyone is nowaydays.

The old members are forgotten. For example, The Milkman, a legendary poster from 2003, made a post in May that he was back on ST. I and a couple of other older members replied and were great to see him back, but that's it. Then the thread was probably closed, as times have changed and so have the rules/regulations for posting here.

Ah, the good old days. This place hit its peak two years ago, in my opinion.

A Nostalgia Day eh?? That's not a bad idea. A switch to 3.0 for about a day (a week hopefully??) would be nice. I really did like the colours and look of 3.0, but I suppose 4.0 is just fine. 4.0 just lacks a certain something, there's nothing wrong with it visually, it's just that it doesn't invoke memories. 20.gif

How many are there of us active old-timers anyway?? I understand that people do move on but it would be nice to have a list. 48.gif

That sounds great, but it probobly not possible unless dirk and the other admins spend a lot of time working on it , Maybe for simtropolis' next birthday or something ?
it would also probobly be better to have a nostalgia week  ,sounds cool though , wonder what dirk thinks ? 1.gif

Memories, eh? *looks deep into the empty head of mine*

I found things!

My first ever download for SC4 was from here! It was the Snowcapped Terrain mod!
Sam + Ry...how can anyone forget!
My first post in Screwballl County, which to me was an honour, since that is one of my favorite journals of all time!
Winning a trixie in 2004 was also an honour...definately the highlight of my ST stay!
Becoming a Temp Op for the first time in chat was also yet another honour, since I was one of those people who could keep the peace of the chat, making it a much better place for a while. I felt like I had responsibility, and was honoured by this.

That's all that I can remember.

Cool, looks like Nostalgia Day has the backing of a mod 9.gif.

I also looked at the picture G4ce posted and I was quite surprised at the fact that the LEX was there still. Also, I'd almost forgotten about the city name generator. 19.gif And we actually had a top ten posters list back then...

Memories coming thick and fast now 18.gif.

Yeah, it would be great if it could go back to the 3.0 design for a day, or even better, a week.

BTW Timotheus, you better be joking. 3.gif

If I had my way we'd still have that look today.

If it is feasible, I really hope Dirk could setup a Nostalagia week or something. Make it a month!

I remember getting my custom label, because it was only a few months ago! I was so chuffed! That was a personal one, I also remember the time when I got my head photoshopped onto Masher's body, which is officially one of the most traumatic moments of my life! I don't suppose it was much fun for masher either!17.gif Anyway, thanks ST for some great memories!

Many moments, mostly dealing with Modd Squad. I miss our members. The only one still around at all is Karybdis, and he's here very rarely. Ilive, Buggi, they're gone. March - June 2003, that was the peak of Simtropolis. We're in a Silver Age now, and it's still one heck of a community, but something about those three months, cannot be replaced, at least for me.

Some say older members think ST is not as good as it was because they joined ST for what it was then, not now. Eventually they may leave ST themselves changing it even more. Then the cycle continues.

I'm with you there builderman. The site was more of a tight knit community back then as well. I miss loads of the old members. Buggi, Thy, Sharr...
