Hallo Bernhard.

Sorry to hear that about your computer. Good to hear you do have a backup though... (always a good thing to have 19.gif).

Anyways, it's been too long since my last visit to Urland (had been very busy with RL lately). I like the update, nice details once again. Particularly the parks are very well done, great use of custom content there. The Azalleen Garten is my favorite. But I also like the close-up shot of Präsidentenkreuzung: It's always great to have a little action in the pictures. It brings them to life. Also the little pieces of history lend some depth to the region as well.

Germany was a good host for the World Cup, btw. I guess "zu Gast bei Freunden" was a very apposite slogan. In a sportive point of view it could have been better, but unlike most people I don't think it was that bad either. But I'm not too angry that it's over now 4.gif.

Take care my friend.

- Phil

    Hello to All!!

It has been a while since I updated last time here ... I would like to tell you I am now updating again but I cannot – same old problem with the motherboard ...

But I really had to do something in SC4 so I decided to start my

    Nardo's Heavy Railway Tutorial

I thought of making this for quite some time but you know ... as long as I could play SC4 I continued Urland in the small time RL let me do this while I had my PC, and since my big PC isn't working anymore I only have an old Laptop with (256-64=) 192 MB RAM – way too less for Urland ...

So I just lurked through the CJ section, making some comments and saw some IMHO basic mistakes repeating in almost any CJ (I made most of them, too, I guess ...)

But like always – before I start some answers:

Fabiocb: Glad you liked „your story“ ... as I mentioned before I like to „honour“ my loyal readers with some small stories in my CJ. And I am going to continue with this as soon as I will be able to continue my CJ ...

John(Darmok): Well, as I pm'ed you it wasn't the hard disk. Thank you here again for letting me use AVR pics in my tutorial while I cannot make screenshots by myself!

Kwakelaar : Thanks for crossing your fingers! I hope I get my problem fixed as soons as I am able to get a new MoBo!!!

Fox: Well, actually, I developed this town more or less in the same time Ill Tonkso put those on the STEX. Because I do not use a demand mod I had to have allways an eye on the demand which I didn't want to kill by plopping these highrises. About the seasonal woods: I just love them – especially in conjunction with sunken or raised railways as you will see in my tutorial ...

gurrgkud : well, the backup CDs are working, but as I've written before I don't have an adequate pc to go on so I am doing this tutorial ...

anubis89 :Thanks for the compliment, mate!

Rick Dangerous : Hey , thanks for the compliment! And thanks for your first comment on ST in my CJ ... I do hope I can give you some inspiration with my tutorial, too!

Eric (Pinchman) (2*): Thanks for your wishes and your PMs! I really appreciated your pm and that you did not forget me ... hope you like my tutorial!

Justanothersim86 : It seems there is justice in this world as my backup CDs are working – I just need an adequate pc ...Thanks for your wishes!

Yoman3 : Thanks for the compliment! Actually I got inspired by the German towns Karlsruhe (where I studied) and Stuttgart which do have such green parks right in their center.

Shizu00 : Thanks for the compliment! I'll do as soon as I can.

PhilsCafe : Thanks for the compliment. Actually the Azaleen Garden was inspired by the „Rosengarten“ (Rosegarden) in Stuttgart – even though I am not a big fan of Stuttgart (I grew up next to and studied in its local rival Karlsruhe ...) I really loved that park in its center ...

Yeah, the cup was great – too bad I wasn't able to come to my country and join ...

Thanks again for letting me use some screenshots from Ahorn Creek!

Jacqulina : Thanks for your good wishes! The backups do work, now I „just“ need to get my pc working again ...

In the last update I promised you to give you the short portrait of Gustav Stresemann and Theodor Heuss. Here they are:

    Theodor Heuss

(*31.01.1884 in Brackenheim, +12.12.1963 in Stuttgart)

Theodor Heuss studied Economy, History, History of Art and Political Science in Munich and Berlin. In 1905 he recdeived a doctor's degree in whinery. Between 1905 and 1936 he headed and wrote for different papers in Germany. From 1920 to 1933 he was university lecturer at the „Deutsche Hochschule für Politik“ (German Academy for Politics).

In 1903 he became member of the „Freisinnige Vereinigung“ and changed in 1909 to the „Fortschrittliche Volkspartei“ (Progressive People's party). In 1918 he took part in founding the „Deutsche Demokratische Partei“ (German Democratic Party) for which he became member in the Reichstag (German Parliament) between 1924 and 1928 and between 1930 and 1933. In 1933 he lost his seat in parliament. In 1936 the Nazis forbid him any journalistic work.

After the second World War he was one of the three licensees of the (still existing) „Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung“ in the american sektor. He became university lecturer for history at the „Technische Hochschule“ (Technical University) of Stuttgart and became the first minister of education in Württemberg-Baden (which was one of the three county that formed the still existing county „Baden-Württemberg“2.gif. On 12.12.1948 he was elected as the first chairman of the „Freie Demokratische Partei“ (FDP) on their foundation party convention. 1948 he was member of the „Parlamentarischer Rat“ who installed the Grundgesetz, the constitution of West Germany.

On 12. September 1949 he gave up his seat in the Bundestag (West German Parliament) to become the first President of West Germany which he stayed untill 1959. He declined a third period for which a change in constitution would have been necessary.

Theodor Heuss was married with Elly Heuss-Knapp (1881-1952). They were married by Albert Schweizer who has been a good friend to Elly Heuss-Knapp.

    Gustav Stresemann

(*10.05.1878 in Berlin, +03.10.1929 in Berlin)As the only of five children of a beer seller he was able to visit a Gymnasium (College) and studied first Literature and History and later changed to National Economy. 1903 he joined the „Nationalliberale Partei“ NLP (National Liberal Party). In 1906 he became member of the town council of Dresden. His engagement for social task brought him into conflict with the industrial dominated „right“ part of his party.

Stresemann was several times member of the Reichstag between 1907 and 1912 and then between 1914 and 1918. In 1918 he became chairman of the NLP and took part in founding the „Deutsche Volkspartei“ DVP (German People Party). From 1920 to 1929 he was member of the Reichstag.

During the occupation of the Rhineland in 1923 by France he became Reichskanzler (Chancelor) for a short while and stayed afterwards secretary for foreign affairs untill his death in 1929.

Stresemann was Monarchist. He did not accepted the Treaty of Versailles – especially not its morally component. He didn't want to take the consequences of refusing the treaty which would have lead to military interventions by the allied forces. In 1923 he ended the Ruhrkampf (passive resistance against France occupying the Rhineland) and ended the hyperinflation by creating the new Rentenmark. His career as Reichskanzler ended on 23.11.1923.

In the following time as secretary for foreign affairs he brought back the relation between Germany and France to a normal level for a peaceful revision of the treaty of Versailles. For his policy of reconsiliation he received the prix nobel together with his french colleague Aristide Briant.

When he died in 1923 the young German Republic lost one of its most capable democratic leaders.

huh, lot of text to read ...

Okay, now I have a good and a bad news for you:

The bad: No update ... 8.gif

The good: I started a new thread for my railway tutorial. The first two chapters can be found here:

Nardo69's Thoughts about the game Or have a look in my sig.

I have to split into several parts as it will be a rather big one ... 9.gif

    @All: Have fun!

    ahem ...

    *knock knock knock*

    yep, it's me ...

hope you did not forget me ... did you?

    Of course you did not:

    *leaves room*

    *goes to the locker room*

*makes his way through 25 years of boxes*

    *find old turntable*

*looks further and finds old black LP*

    *puts LP on Turntable*

    *starts turntable*

*the first notes of ABBA are filling the room ....*

    *starts to sing:*

Thank You For The Trixie ...

    The Joy It's Bringing ...

Honestly I was really surprised - after so much time no update due to my hardware problems ... I guess  I was looking all 5 minutes to the Award Show ...

And who cares about the wrong numbers .... 2.gif

And I have some good news for you: I finally installed XP (on the last day before they began to ship Vista - so much about me believing in new products ... 9.gif ) and almost everything seems to run fine - except SC4. I can load my regions and even my cities but as soon as I try to run them my pc is booting ... 45.gifI guess I will solve this eventually.

NEVERTHELESS I do have access to my screenies again!!!!!! 10.gif

So I thought even though I cannot continue right now I might show what I have done ... and start the first Trixie Special:

    Random Night Shots of Gleiwemünde

    But before we start:

jacqulina(2x): Thanks for the welcome back! I really appreciate it! And: Congratulation on THREE WELL DESERVED TRIXIES!!!!

wouanagaine: Thanks for the welcome and CONGRATULATION ON FOUR TRIXIES my friend! Your new tools suite will become quite handy as soon as I can run my cities longer than 15 sec - especially that snapshot tool!

John(Darmok): Thank you! I do appreciate it!

I hope you weren't waiting too long on that chair my friend! And then: CONGRATULATION ON THE AS WELL DESERVED AS OVERDUE TRIXIE FOR THE BEST CJ my friend!

Phil(pvarcoe): Thank you very much! I hope I can give you some more even though I don't have "fresh pics" right now!

Schulmanator: Thank you very much and welcome to Urland! CONGRATULATION YOUR TRIXIE!!!

    tapp tapp tapp

    and where are the pics??????

    Here they are:

Urland Region View (yes there is a second big town ...):

    Region View of Urland

    Urland Traffic View:

    Urland Traffic View

(click to view - they are big ... )

Urland has right now 1.211.000 Inhabitants whereas appr. 1/3 are living in each of the two big metropoles Gleiwemünde and Rhenbrücken (which shall grow further ... )

And now ... nightshots of one of the two big towns in my mostly rural CJ!!

    trixie01ex0.jpg

Quite where we stopped last update plus the other side of the railway! A propos railway: How much railway crossings do you in this picture?!? 2.gif

    trixie02ei6.jpg

And this pic shows a good part of waht is missing of Gleiwemünde: Harbour, the big industrial area (yes, there are quite some railway crossings there ...) and the Oststadt (East side).

    trixie03ko6.jpg

A night shot with Il Tonkso's great highrises at the Azaleengarten

    trixie04uk5.jpg

The convention center and the "Night Owl" - the biggest Music Club in Gleiwemünde. The avenue to the right leads to the small regional Airport of Gleiwemünde.

There is a kind of ware between the owner of the "Night Owl" and the gas station. The gas station sells more beer & liquor than gas during the nights mostly to the guests of the "Night Owl" that leave for having a drink and then come back. No wonder: One beer at the Night owl: 0,33l 12 Euro, one beer 0,50 l 1,25 Euro at the gas station ... 31.gif

The Fabio Cruz-Balera Museum at night.

    trixie06vf8.jpg

Around the Stadium of the Borussia Gleiwemünde who went to third league in 1993 and seem to have a chance to get back to the 2. Bundesliga this year ... we will see ...!

    trixie07mh9.jpg

Yes, Gleiwemünde is a military harbour since 1882 - only interrupted between 1919 and 1936 because of the Treaty of Versailles and between 1945 and 1955 between WW II and the "Wiederbewaffnung" (rearmament) in 1955 - when the Bundeswehr was founded in West Germany.

    trixie08gj4.jpg

The small fleet of destroyers that are still doing their duty in the Northern and Baltic Sea.

    trixie09ju3.jpg

There are two rivers in Gleiwemünde: The Gleiwe (as we knew before) and the Rodewitz which leads to Gleiwemünde's smaller neighbour with the same name. The Railway line leads to the industrial center Schlothlingen.

Pic of the Rodewitzufersiedlung (seddlement on the shores of the Rodwitz)

    trixie10gq0.jpg

I guess I don't have to tell you where I made this pic or did you really forget "Klein-Paris"?

    That's for today ...

*what? so much time no update and then just those poor 10 pics?????*

... next time I will show you some of the rural developements in the same style. But before I leave for tonight ...

    *what?  ... we are waiting!!*

    A poll:

Given that I eventually finish my hardware problem (I am really sick and tired of them!) how shall I continue after Gleiwemünde?

    Big'n'Dirty with lots of railway:

    choicea1tf6.jpg

    choicea2no2.jpg

Schlothlingen is the first town in Urland without farms but with a lot of mostly dirty industry (I-HT taxed out with 20% 10.gif) and a lot of traffic infrastructure including GLR....

*or? don't you have something more correspondig to your trixie?*

    or:

    choiceb1zg2.jpg

A small & nice small town and a lot of farms and some quite village and some rather boring I-HT ...

But if you want to see this I will try to change at least most of the small town's buildings to the great new harlemmergold BATs ...

    choiceb2zd2.jpg

The choice is up to yours - which one shall I finish?

    Industrial Schlothlingen - choice A

    or

    Rural Rodewith - choice B

    Until then

    Have fun!

    Bernhard 44.gif

PS: Did I ever tell you that I WON A TRIXIE????

Finally a new update! Everything looks great, I especially like the picture with the dirt industry (maybe a candidate POTW? ). But I'm for the second choice, because it's better overall

But why does the region have cities with different terrain mods? Anyway the region is also great too44.gif

Hello, Bernhard, I'm glad you won.  I read your journal recently up to the end, and I put "69" in your nic when I nominated you.  Wonder how they got 90 in there--perhaps grading you higher?  29.gif  I'm glad to see you are continuing.  Good luck with the computer.  Your night pics are very glam--cute story about the beer wars.

I'll be following, and I know I'll have some railway questions.  I vote for B because I love to see how the railways negotiate the countryside, especially through hill and dale.

    Hell to All!

My pc seems to be fixed, no more hard disk erros, no more cold starts when I try to start a city ... SC4 Manager is halfway set now, means time to make a new update ...

This update was meant to be the last update of Gleiwemünde yet there will be one more ... otherwise it would have become too big (about 2mbytes of pics, I don't want to do more, I have been on 56K/64K quite some time, too ... ) 34.gif

    Before we start:

I was positively surprised that I diid not became forgotten withinhalf a year of no updates ... then the trixie, then your great comments! I really appreciate it, without your support even in this long time with no update I would not have been able to go this far!

About the vote: polls are still open until 31.12.2006 but I guess I know how you are going to decide ... 2.gif

    And (as always):

    Schulmanator: Choice counted! 1.gif

luker91: Thanks for the compliment and Choice counted! 1.gif

jacqulina: Thanks for the compliment my friend! Choice counted although I could almost guess it among us rural friends ... 2.gif

anubis89: Thanks for the compliment my friend! Choice counted and Thanks for the advice! (For all other see here:

     http://forum.ingame.de/sims/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6637&perpage=20&pagenumber=9

About the different terrain mods: Well, the main reason is that I am an oldfashioned conservative ol' donkey that just began to use the columbus mode these days ... 34.gif

John(Darmok): AB huh? well, if my pc doesn't make any more serious problems .. anyway you will get your explanation! 9.gif promise! 2.gifChoice counted!

ilikehotdogsalot: Thanks for the compliment my friend and Welcome to my CJ1.gif

crazychickensc12: Thanks for the compliment! And Congratulation on your Trixies!

emilin: Thanks for the compoliment! Vote counted but a far as I can tell you'll have to wait abit ... 1.gif

GMT: Danke für die Blumen! Und dieses Mal bin ich deutlich schneller - hoffen wir, dass das so bleibt ... !

Translation: Thanks for the compliment - and here we are -. way faster than before - let's hope this wont change ..! 10.gif

Livin in Sim: Thanks for the compliment! Actuellay they made me 21 years younger with the 90 as the 69 is my year of birth ... LOL

Little stories today but it'll change next time, promise! 2.gif

Rick Dangerous: Actually it is agood feeling to be "active again with so much great support! 10.gif

Choise counted also, if I see the preliminary result ... 34.gif But I can understand you, still so much I-HT and CO/CS$$$ and R$$$ even though the buildings for the poorer Sims are rather often way more lovely ...

    OKAY: Preliminary results:

    Choice A: Schlothlingen -  3 votes

    Choice B: Rodewitz - 5 votes

Nothing has been decided, votes are accepted during whole 2006 ... 9.gif

And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, let's begin with

Update 15:16: Bye Bye Gleiwemünde Part I

    glei15150qc6.jpg

    glei15151ox4.jpg

We made the turn through the rural belt and entered the town from the north. Now let's visit the south of Gleiwemünde with the small Naval harbour, the city woods and a lot of commercial ...

    glei15152cp3.jpg

But before ... something that I (hopefully) will show in my tutorial thread next year! As you can see the small industrial area has no road connection to the residential area above - yet they are connected!

    glei15153fx1.jpg

... by subway line and pedestrian ways. I started the subway VERY late in Gleiwemünde, for a rather long time the footpath from marrast (TE only for pedestrians!) were the only short connection between Residentail and Industrial areas - cars and busses have to take the long way over the motorway!

A rather effective way to get car traffic out of residential areas and to increase the income form MT ... 9.gif

    glei15154ge1.jpg

Back to where we stopped in Update 15.16. Behind the Hbf (Central Station) there's another small commercial area and some suburbs.

    glei15155mu3.jpg

I stil want to hug JaWood for BATting one of my favourites from SC2000: The KSIM Headquarter! Isn't it a great BAT?

    Link here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=14156

    glei15156ri1.jpg

Or: Me and my friend Dozer 07 .... while the rowhouses in the foreground are on one lot all the THING BATs are on single 1 tile wide medium density residential zones ... needless to mentioned how often I had to blam other (even nice) BATs away ... 14.gif

    glei15157nx2.jpg

The mosque was a present from the Osman Sultan Menhmet V to the last German King Wilhelm II. Built in 1912 it was merely decoration between the world wars untill the turkish workers came to Germany in the sixty and filled it again with relgious life. Its library was built in the late 90es.

    glei15158ez5.jpg

South to the mosuqes is a mix of bureaus, big and small supermarket and some residential skyscrapers. Especially the Walmart pulls a lot of traffic here that were used also for football games and some open air concerts in the summers.

    glei15159dc0.jpg

On the other side of the of the Autobahn lies the airport of Gleiwemünde. Because of its proximity of its bigger neighbour Rhenbrücken with its big airport there is only a small regional airport in Gleiwemünde.

Yep, that is the small ingame strip. I don't like airports IRL, I don't want to build them tile by tile in SC4 ...

Though interesting again is the connection of the small industrial/cmmercial area:

A: The main access is the avenue with the intersection with the autonbahn.

B: A road connects the the area to the residential / commercial sector on the other side of the Autobahn. It goes under the railway close to the stadium

C: A pedestrian connection (again footpath from marrast) connects the Hafenviertel in the North next to the big hospital

    D A second pedestrian connection

E: Like in the first example the subway was built very late. It increased the desrability of the area but wasn't necessary.

The three empty lots were buildungs that went black during a temporary water shortage. Nothing grew there since then... 45.gif

    glei15160lh7.jpg

Back to the walmart. Behind there ends the city sector of Gleiwemünde, Type and dimensions of buildings are strictly regulated in Gleiwemünde to protect the landscape from a cancerogen growing of suburbs and urtban areas into rual spaces.

    glei15161rp8.jpg

The area at the edge of the map was along time a problem for me. Still empty when agrar demand went to Nirvhana I didn't wanted to buld neither only woods ther nor did I wanted to establish another suburban district. Then I tried the commercial farms from BSC ... !

    glei15162wc8.jpg

... and the alotments from the SFBT. I love how it turned out! 36.gif

    glei15163qz9.jpg

At the airport on the other side of the autobahnI decided to place the convention center. And since only a convention center isa bit ... naked ... I plopped a dico, a multilex a supermarket and a department store and added a commercial/industrial district.

    glei15164jv1.jpg

Some more commercial farms - reward type that you can plopp only once.

    glei15165hi7.jpg

The city wood at the beginning of autumn ... I love this watertower from PEG...!

And with this picture I close this update. There will be one more chapter of Gleiwemünde, the final, untill we will move further to ...

    we will see ..

    Merry Christmas!

    Joyeux Fêtes!

    Frohe Weihnachten!

    Feliz Navidad!

    Have Fun!

    Hi Bernhard

Sorry to have missed some updates again, but i thought Urland would not be updated anymore after the pc problem. That is making me very happy to see that you are continuing Urland now with some fantastic updates again.

For the voting I too will say AB, as I can not make a choice anymore, I just plain enjoy looking at your CJ wether it be rural or dirty industry.

And best wishes for the new year 2007.39.gif

    Happy New Year, Bernhard!

That extra nineteen years must have been very energizing, because the update looks full of renewed inspiration.

The way you have transitioned the highway and avenues looks very realistic in that first pic.  It looks like you used the puzzle pieces?  I like those TE'd pedestrian walks by Marrast.  I wonder if they were in any of the recent BSC uploads of Marrast's BAT's?  Try as I might, I can't find his stairs.  I do have the KSIM Building; I love the neon effect.  Good thought about the commercial farms, I, too, will have to put some on the edges of my older, highly educated cities.

Here's to getting (thinking? 48.gif) younger, while keeping our experience!

They're included with his TE'd pedestrian walks. Search for Marrast Footways, and you'll find them.

I especially love the densely wooded and farmed areas, it's so European. 3.gif If you're having issues with farm demand, maybe try the ploppable BSC farm fields available on the STEX (search for uroncha)? It's got a very dense feel to it. I love it!
