That church is a very good choice Bernhard! I like those plaza lots you made, they match perfectly with the church.

Also like the combo Church/Train station, never been to Europe, but I strike me as very Europeean like to have the Church near the train station, tell me if I'm wrong.

Good to know you finaly resolved your LE problems, and that the sleeping dogs are no longer bothering you.  2.gif

Take care my friend

Hi, Bernhard,

It's been interesting to see your work with detailing and upgrading your cities.  I think that is my most favorite part of the game.  I am quite fazed by a blank landscape, but once I get it going I can think of all sorts of improvements.  Unfortunately, this involves a lot of blasting, oh, and oops, don't forget to save!

I like the church, yes, I think it was the best choice as it is a good substantial edifice that can hold its own in the area.  There surely are some lovely choices for the house of worship, aren't there?  I like your work with the plaza on the lot, the texture sets off the BAT.  The trees, hmm, I think they are a little tall for plaza trees.  All though the look is unusual, and not at all unpleasant because it offsets the city concrete and gives the plaza users some really nice shade.

I am a movie buff, but I have not yet found the quote.  If no one else has, any hints?  42.gif

    Hello to All!

It has been a while since the last update ...

    ... again. 45.gif

A lot of work + trouble at work, a sometimes working but most of the time dead ADSL connection for almost a month (the cable was repaired just today(!) and 56K (effektiv 33,5K .... 6.gif) is not really ... fast) and a creative hangover ... so here I am with a good and a bad news for you.

The bad news: no progress at Rodewitz which means no regular update – I just haven't found the time and the muse to go on in the LE to finish the plaza.

The good news: After the appr. 127.597th time when I left Rodewitz without saving I spotted a small tile north of Rodewitz with consists mostly of water and an almost triangular piece of land. So I began there a new Town, well, village is more correct ...

But as always before we start:

Alex(homeandaway)(2x): Thanks for the compliment! Actually it was a lot of waiting plus a lot of work for my friend Dozer 07 to get the right buildings growing. Thank God Rodewitz isn't that big ...

And this time I was a bit faster ... 10.gif

Schulmanator:  Thanks for the compliment! I am a bit earlier this time ... I am getting better it seams ...! 1.gif

John(Darmok): Hello my friend! Actually there is a rather well known example IRL: If you ever go to Köln / Cologne try to get there by train. When you leave the HBF (Central Station, the busiest in Germany AFAIK) you are almost in front of the famous gothic cathedral ... 10.gif

The plaza's are still under construction ... see above ...

jacqulina: Thanks for the compliment my friend! And I don't think building small town is easy or at least more easy than building skyscraper jungles and metropolises: it isn't – it is just different as the scale is different. In high density neighbourhoods you just don't see the small details that make out a nice small town!

And I agree with your last words – to find the better solution you just need some distance sometimes ... Keep it coming! 2.gif

Phil(PhilsCafe): well .. double proof that the sentence is true .... 43.gif

The large bus station helped me solving the “over the corner transit traffic problem” when I plopped it in Goldhagen, the neighbour of Rodewitz to the North. More in the upcoming update (you see I am again into updating ... ) 19.gif

SG church is definitely a great BAT but here in this environment I preferred Haarlemmergolds church – especially since it is such an universal type. (And yes, having a Roman Catholic background I had the subjective feeling that I have to find a different place for this particular church ...) 21.gif

Shanna: Thanks for the compliment my friend! I hope you are not too disappointed that I took a small break at Rodewitz  ... 2.gif

Liv(Livin in Sim): I think I know what you mean ... I had a similar feeling after I tear down the large bus station ... and this was  a rather small spot. Actually in Urland I need at least a year for a full large tile ... I won't break the world record for fast city building with this speed but this speed gives me joy and the muse for the details plus enjoying them.

I agree with the trees they are too tall but I haven't found better ones yet. I asked for a scaled down version for them over at the other site but haven't received any news since then ... so I guess I have to continue my search ... 34.gif

But then again – as you see in this update – sometimes you have to start something new or you don't have anything to rebuild it later ... plus my cities are finished when I don't play the game any more (with hopefully won't happen in the near future!)

GMT: Thanks for the compliment! I have t confess I lurked quite some times in GCR, too, before my ADSL broke ...2.gif

Let me say a big THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all of you! Your constant supports really keeps me going!

And let me lift the curtain – no, not for an update of Rodewitz but for the

    Interlude: Strandersheim

As I said before – a small tile with a lot of water and a small triangular spot of land – just perfect for a small fishing village. The arcitecture may not be very German but a mix of British (Gascooker) and Dutch (Haarlemmergold) but I like it.

And please, don't tell anyone that I needed a year for installing the Columbus Mod and yet another year for posting my first screenies with the mod in my CJ, pleaaaase!

You know I am just a SOD (Stubborn Oldfashioned Donkey) that needs its time ...

    str01eg5.jpg

So this is the village - Strandersheim - a church, two pubs, a cemetary, some farms and a small fishing harbour.

Actually while building this time I had "Everyday feels like Sunday" from The Smiths in my ear ... all the time ...

It is said that in earlier times the inhabitants lighted fires on the beach (="Strand") to lead ships into shallow waters,  get on board, kill the sailors and steal the prey but maybe it is just a myth  - no beach here at all and the waters here aren't dangerous enough to run a lighthouse here .. .

    str02ly1.jpg

Some closeups of the "downtown" with the small church and the too pubs. The "Fischerstube" (next to the church) is a place where the locals meet for a beer after their work is done. Its Heringssalat (herring salad) with fried potatoes is a delicious insider tip, though.

The other pub is the rather famous "Lachender Hering" - with a star in the Guide Michelin the main attraction of Strandersheim. The owner owns the only non-Rowhome in the "centervillage". Of course you won't see locals as guests there ...

(I must confess this special ingame R$$ is the main reason why I sometimes thought of instaling the NoMaxis - Mod ...)

Later on I blasted that BSC farm in the lower righ pic. That red thingy was just too ... red, somehow ...

    str03iy7.jpg

The fishing harbour - right now eyecandy but I really think about learning to mod them into I-S or I-M. The original Lots from NOT have a transparent base which I didn't like here so I changed it to a concrete texture - fits more to the fishing harbours at the Marmare Sea I saw here ..

    str04ze2.jpg

The community in Strandsheim isn't very rich so the cemetary has no own chapel. Rather pratical effect: most of the time noone has to fake tears as 4 out of 5 funeral take place on rainy sundays and people get completely soaked on the way from the church to the cemetary ....

    str05ze8.jpg

I saw a similar cemetary years ago somewhere in Croatia. And I love how it came out!

    str06hh9.jpg

IThe farms on the hill. I like how all these green and brown colors fit together. Unfortunately I couldn't get the kink out of the Sardinia Row ...

    str07uu3.jpg

In general I turn off the day-and-night change in order to have a better overview over the project I do in the respective moment. Howver I am glad that I turned it on again here ...

I know that some people don't like to here this but ...

... IMHO here the Maxis farm just blends in better than the BSC farm before.

    str08on5.jpg

A rather busy night for such a small village  ...

    That was it for today.

I hope you like my small Intermezzo. Next time I hope to be able to continue with Rodewitz.

    Untill then

    Have fun!

    Hello to All!

I haven't posted a region view for a while so here I am. But of course before we start:

@Alex(homeandaway):  Thanks for the compliment! About coronation street: Unfortunately I never have been in Britain - I just saw some TV programs and pics but I must say I am a big fan of Gascooker!s art! 2.gif

@Phil (pvarcoe): Thanks for the compliment! You know, about lots I am rather pragmatic: They have to fit in their environment!  5.gif

@patriots_1228: Thanks for the compliment! About the evening pics: Normally I turn the day-and-night change off - due to performance as well as to e able to concentrate myself on the particular "work" - yet they are so beautiful ... 10.gif

@jacqulina: Thanks for the compliment my friend!

And here is the promised region view:

BTW: You will see two terrain mods. I started the older cities without the columbu smod and I will continue them without the mod. The newer cities were started with the mod so consequently I will cxontinue them with the mod!

    urland2hx5.th.jpg

And of course the traffic view:

    urland2tut0.th.jpg

    That's it for today!

    Have fun!

    Hello to All!

It has been a while since I made my last update. I had been rather busy woth RL. In addition to this I became beta tester for the SFBT. And my first big betatesting will be the main theme of this update!

But as always before we begin:

@Voulpiotis: Thanks for the compliment! 1.gif

@jacqulina: Thanks for thge compliment my friend!

    @Shanna: Here we are ...

And now let's begin with the update.

    rod1618nf9.jpg

The new Bahnhfsplatz. I redid the plazas and used Porkie's Seasonal Trees. I guess it ?s okay like this ...

    rod1619mt1.jpg

Some views from different Angels. I tore down those  SimGoober restaurants later - they din't fit there

You may have thought it .. the headline after the first pis ...

    Here come's the main part:

    Update 16.3 Electrified Railways

or: Preview of the upcoming SFBT Oberleitungs mod

    BATs by Kenworth

Icons and mod by Andreas Roth

    Texture by ArckenbergJoe

and a lot of advices and betatestingfrom me

I told you I am mean today ... these Lots are still under Betatesting hence not available yet.

They will be done when they will be done

and in the meantime I will enjoy my privilege of being SFBT Betatester  9.gifMuaharhar

    rod1620rg4.jpg

The first version of the RR station Rodewitz. I changed later the small catenaries next to the station buildings to ...

    rod1621jf9.jpg

those single middlle poles. These are secondary tracks, and single poles are less expensive IRL. In addtition to this I wanted to try those middle poles ....

    rod1622lh9.jpg

The western head of the RR station. Did you counted the different catenary types?  16.gif

    rod1623ln5.jpg

From a different angle. At Simforum we call this "Kieselsteinschubsen" - pushing pebbles 16.gif

    rod1624wd8.jpg

Some shots of Andreas mod - no lots changed here!!!

    rod1625oo0.jpg

The eastern had of the station. I did not electrify the railway lines on the upper corner by purpose - Urland is not part of switzerland and there should be some last areas for Diesel locomotives ...

    rod1626yk7.jpg

The electrified RR line on its way through the industrial area. No lots changed here, too!

Note that the industrial tracks and the roundhouse are not electrified by purpose...

    rod1627vs3.jpg

Some shots from the other side of the river Rodwitz.

    rod1628vl5.jpg

    I do love this closeup!

    rod1629kq7.jpg

    Again no lot changed ...

    rod1630lx2.jpg

My Nr.1 Position on my wishing list: Exchanged that silly red American type against a halfway modern steam engine of the 20th century - like the German class 41 (2-4-2), 44, 50 or 52 (2-10-0). The last one is the most built steam engine at all and was found on all standard gauge railways in Europe except Great Britain ....

And the answers to you most urgent questions:

NO, they are not (yet) available

NO, there is no release date. They will be done when they will be done!

Did I mention I am mean today?

    MUAHARHARHAR!!!! 9.gif

    At all:

    Have Fun!

@jacqulina: Welcome and thanks for the compliment! It is always a pleasure when I eventually was able to do an update and see you posting there! 2.gif

@jayo: Wow - thanks for the compliment! 43.gif

@frogface: Thanks for the compliment! And Greetings from Kenny (Kenworth) who BATted these catenaries - as your  (british?) catenaries were the inspiration of his (German) catebaries. He asked me to greet you because he said his English is not very good. 2.gif

@Schulmanator: Thanks for the compliment! Yes, these trees are all-in-all better than the ones before! 5.gif

    Hi Bernhard,

    Nice one!

I like Bahnhfsplatz, Porkie's seasonal trees mix very well with the setup.

I have a "real newbie" question about those electrified railroads. I'm not familiar AT ALL with those, here we only have "regular" trains, what I'm wondering is this, in RL are the electrified poles that close from one another?

Don't get me wrong it's not a critic but simple curiosity.

My favorite pic in this update is 16.26, I really like those small houses with the dirt trails behind with containers and such...  it IS a blue collar sector!

16.28 would be a close second choice! You know like trees!

And I honestly think you're enjoying being mean and doing that MUAHARHARHAR!!!! thing.... hehehe... 2.gif

Anyhow great update, and waiting to see more

    See you

    Hallo Bernhard.

Vielen Dank für dein Kommentar in meinem CJ. I guess I really miss the CJing and SC4 playing sometimes... especially when I look at your work. It's great to see that with Strandersheim you kinda went back to the (rural) roots 4.gif. Nice shots, I like the fishing harbor a lot. And, no doubt, your railway layout owns them all 4.gif.

I'll be patiently waiting for more to come...

    Hello to All!

Again it took me some to update but this time it took less than a month - seems to be there is at least hope for me ...

And I "only" had to go to page 6 to find my Cj ... 4.gif

Again I took Rodewitz on hold - this time for betatesting T Wrecks new "Diagonal Rural Filler Lots" - see here for further information!

And again - before we start:

Godzillaman: Thanks for the compliment! In this update no railways but in a not too far future there will be more pics from the catenaries! 2.gif

Darmok: Actually the distance between the poles for the mod is a bit small but that is a result from the game . The multi-track - poles are Lots but I placed them at the same distance as the poles of the mod.
This may change but since the mod is the work of Andreas Roth I cannot saymore about it.
Your favourite pic, well, you know me, I always had a faible for R$ ... 10.gif
    See you in AVR! 2.gif

El Burro: Thanks for the compliment! At the moment no railways but there will be more railway updates soon! 1.gif

PhilsCafe: Welcome and thanks for the compliment my friend!
I still think it's a pity that Ahorn Creek is closed but you do have your serious reasons for closing it that I can understand - yet I do hope anyway to see something from you in the future again! 2.gif
About back to root, well, as you see in the update: Here we are!

    Update 17-1: Braubach

    or: Diagonally Rural

    brau1701qs7.jpg

An Overview of the (medium-sized map). In this update we will stay on the left side of the map at the village “Königsbach” (King's village) and the small sedlement “Sudetenhof”.

    brau1702ht7.jpg

The Sudetenhof was founded after WW II as a seddlement for the Germans that had to leave their homeland Sudetenland (Today: Cech Republik). These workforces were heavily needed on the surrounding farms.

This seddlement always has never been a “good adress”. And as the bus serves the seddlement only 5 times a day (7:15, 13:30, 15:30, 17:30 and 19:30, only on workdays, no service on the weekend) you really need a car or a motorb?ke or you're l?terally stuck there for good ...

The small wood above is the made from T Wreck's diagonal filler lots, the wood in the lower left corner is Jeroni's seasonal wood.

    brau1703te7.jpg

Some closeups at the Sudetenhof. T Wreck's fillerlots not only are a great choice for fill?ng the necessary gap between streets and farmlands, they also form a great forrest edge.

    brau1704rt0.jpg

Diagonally rural in all its glory!

    Just ... enjoy!

    brau1705gp0.jpg

    At the entrance of Königsbach

ne advantage of the ingame farm fields is that their number is limited in a way that it is not an endless work to expand them with fences - classic fences from Suico as well as T Wreck's new diagonal filler lots.

BTW: Did you ever saw a diagonal farm field edge before in SC4?

    brau1706me7.jpg

I always loved the details of R$ ...

    brau1707gj6.jpg

A close up at Königsbach. Have a look at the dirttrack: the fence on ist left side and the woods are T Wreck's filler lots, the wood on the right side is Jeroni's seasonal woods. I said it before – T Wrecks new lots do make an excellent forrest edge of a wood!

    brau1708ys7.jpg

The “Tramper-Ecke” (Translation: Hitch hiker's corner)

Due to the “excellent Bus service quite some (not only) young people use the dirt track as an abreviation to the road to get a lift “to the big world”

But only if the weather is dry as even a slight ra?n immediately turns the dirt track into a kneedeep mud!

    brau1709xn7.jpg

Some shots around Königsbach. Nothing much to say except ... a lot of nice R$ and farmland plus some industry that turned really quickly into HT ...

    brau1710ns6.jpg

Another pic of the “Tramper – Eck” as it is my favourite spot on this part of the map.

Like in the update before – this is kind of a betatest – reports.

T Wreck's fillerlots are still in Betatesting hence not available yet.

The next update(s) will (hopefully) take place in the next future, and they will contain some nice railroads ...

    Untill then:
    Have fun

    Hi, Bernhard,

That is a very pretty overview.  The development sits quite pleasingly on the "lap" of the hills.  In other words, it conforms to the terrain in a way that appears totally natural.  Since the valley is diagonal, it was a good plan to follow that guide with the roads.  What a great place to test the new lots, then, and they look wonderful.  It's a great addition to the game--one of those little things that will be used countless times.  And the ones for the fields--wow--rural will never be the same!

Those R$ lots, even the Maxis ones, do have a lot of detail, and fit well in rural areas.  Nice update, and great job with the beta testing.

    Bye for now.
