Hi Bernhard. I'm sorry for not posting for so long... I just never made it to your journal on my short CJ tours, shame on me for that 20.gif.

Congrats on your Trixie! Merry Christmas (sorry, kinda late... I hope you had a great Christmas)! And a very happy New Year to you my friend (well, I think that's acceptable to wish on a 2nd January)! I really wish you and your family all the good luck and health of this world in 2007.

Now to your updates:  It's great to see a full region view for once, very nice layout. I totally forgot that Gleiwemünde was such a big town during my absence from Simtropolis. I like the nightshots a lot. I think some buildings (most of all the Maxis buildings) look best at night... the nightlights sometimes make them glow very nicely... how fitting for the holiday season (which has passed now... unfortunately). Only the airport looks a little out of place (scale wise)... but you explained why and I can live with that now4.gif.

Now to the vote: I'll take A -- Schlothlingen, because of its name and what John said... I'm curious too 4.gif.

I'm looking forward to your next update. Take care!

- Phil

    Hello To All!

It took some time but I hope not too much ....

RushHourFreak: Thanks for the compliment! 1.gif

As for the Trixies, same time this year ... as for the update here we go! 2.gif17.gif

jacqulina(2x): Happy New Year! It is always a pleasure to see you enjoying my pics! 1.gif

Kwakelaar: No problem my friend! Thank God I made quite regular update so I am able to go further ..1.gif

Best wishes for 2007 for you too (especially since your reidentials-in-work look EXTREMELY YUMMY!!! 2.gif

Livin in Sim: Yes, it is the avenue Y-stack. IMHO it is as beautiful as difficult because to find a place where it follows the track of the avenues naturally is hard to find. And this is the only Y-Stack in Urland by now ... 1.gif

The Pedestrian walks can be found here: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=16686  (Just in case you didn't found them by now). Even with new pedestrian malls from the new NAM I regard them as essential 375% must-haves! 19.gif

Shadow_Assassin: Thanks for pointing Livin in Sim in the right direction! 1.gif

About the woods: As a child of the Schwarzwald (Black Forrest) in Southwest Germany I cannot deny my roots – and I just love woods. Some of the things I do miss here in Istanbul ...

About the plopable farms: Usually I don't like plopping. I'm one of the oldfashioned kind that want everything working properly although I do see their benefits in exoanding and repairing existing farms. 9.gif

Kibblewitbit: Welcome to my CJ, thanks for the compliment and a Happy New Year!  1.gif

PhilsCafe: Welcome back my friend and no need for excuses – I know best what it means to have a real live, too ...Thanks for the congratulations, (very late merry christmas) and a Happy New Year for you, too! 1.gif

Yeah, when I got my PC working again AND won the Trixie I thought something special would be nice ... I haven't had the time for something like the retrospective last year so I did the night shots ... 34.gif

About the airport ... have to use them too often ... and all this paranoia about terrorism – I wonder when we have to enter airplanes nude because some $%/§@  thinks he has to forbid any kind of those highly dangerous textiles in order to prevent any terroristic attacks ... 7.gif

About the Vote: A final vote is made! With 5:4 votes I will continue with rural Rodewitz! (Don't worry John and Phil, the explanation for the grade is not forgotten ... )

But now, it's time to say Good-Bye as this is the

    Final Update

    of Gleiwemünde!

    glei15166kg2.jpg

An Overview over the Südstadt (south part of town) and the old harbour.

    glei15167le9.jpg

Like in Wien there's a Zentralfiredhof (central cemetary) in Gleiwemünde although the one if Vienna is waaay more famous. Around the cemetary medium density is dominating with no view to the harbour due to some early-eighties highrise project. The railway line connects the harbout with the Südbahnhof (south station).

    glei15168dm3.jpg

A closeup of the Südtstadt with the Südfriedhof. The one who can show AND name me the only BAT I know from my German hometown will be the proud owner of a nice Villa in Rodewitz ... building and town of course! 49.gif

    glei15169wo8.jpg

The other side of the railway overpass.

The Goethestraße is far less glamourous than the person that it's name after. It basically connects the industrials and commercials in the south to the residentials and the Autobahn in the North. In additioj to this it is the main Street to Schlothlingen and Rodewitz (sic!)

    glei15170gp3.jpg

Gleiwemünde is also an important base of the Bundesmarine. And if there are soldiers there are some bars. The "Captain Sparrow" is rather well known not only in Gleiwemünde even though its reputation is quite different from "a safe place forr good boys and girls" ... 9.gif

The Lützowstraße is a rather popular place for couples in warm summer nights - as you can see by the traffic ...

    glei15171kd5.jpg

An overview over the South of Gleiwemünde. This area is dominated by I-HT and some commerce. The avenue and railway lines to left lead to Rodewitz.

    glei15172aw7.jpg

The Harbour of the Bundesmarine for the big Vessels. Germany does not possess an aircraft carrier!

Those old house are the only remains of the old quarter that has been completely destroyed because of its proximity to the navy base!

The lonely highrise is the "Bundesmarinehafenhauptverwaltung" (loong German name meaning main administraion of the navy harbour)46.gif18.gif

    glei15173gh9.jpg

The second river in Gleiwemünde is the Rodewitz. The railway line is the connection to its industial neighbour Schlothlingen.

    glei15174el9.jpg

The second part of the navy harbour for the destroyers and submarines is located on this small peninsula. While I like the harbour I am not really proud of that Skyscraperdjungle ... it is more or less the result of an esperiment that went in the wrong direction ... some possible work for me and my friend Dozer 07 in the future ... maybe ...

    glei15175uo2.jpg

A collection of night shots ... I feel a bit sad t leave this town - due to my hardwareproblemes we stayed here the whole year 2006 ...

    glei15176qb1.jpg

Looking through all my hundreds of pics I found these nice snow shots ... I could show you only a small portion of Gleiwemünde - it's kind of a pity as it is really a beautiful city but I have to draw sometime somewhere the final line ...

    glei15177qw7.jpg

An overview ny night in the autumn ... just to get melancholic ...

    glei15178oq9.jpg

The last pic (for now?!?) from Gleiwemünde is one of my all-time favourites ...

That' it ... next regular update will be smalltown again ... but before I update here there is still my railway tutorial part 2 in the pipe ....

    untill then:

    @All: Have fun!

    Very nice update Berhard.

I really like the screenshot 15.177

A great overview of the city.

The snow shots are super too.

I'm looking forward to see some more of your rural work.

    Thanks for the update!

    Hi, Bernhard.

Yes, I can understand your nostalgia at leaving Gleiwemünde, it's a beautiful, well planned city with realistic variety of buildings.  The night harbour shot is nice with the small pier by the nightclubs.  I especially like the snowy pics.  In the first one, the colors of the townhouses are complimented by the snow, and I always love how snow seems to glow at night.

Yes, I found the footpaths and stairs, thank you, and thanks Daniel, Shadow Assasin, if you are reading.  I had looked through what BSC had reuploaded several times, but the title of that one must not have clicked.

Great update.  I will look forward to part 2 of the tutorial, and the small town.

    Hi Bernhard,

Let's begin with "Update 15:16: Bye Bye Gleiwemünde Part I"

Pic 15 150, relly liked how you connected the highway and the avenues with the Y intersection.

In pic 152 and 153, interesting idea to use Marrast footpath to connect to the industrial area! (scribbling notes...)

Thanks for bringing to my attention JaWood KSIM building, it's now on my download list! (my plugin folder will still grow!)

Pic 159, I wouldn't want to rent a room at the Holliday Inn straight in the runway axis! WINK

161 and 162 I like those farms they fit very well even close to some midrise buildings.

I think pic 165 is my favorite in this update, loved the colors...

    Now the "Final Update"..... Final???

Pic 167, just love that one! that gently sunken railroad is very well done.

171, I like the industrial sector lots of dirt... and that green domed water tower fits perfectly there!

pic 174, could you fire that boat captain who just rammed that submarine!

Also liked the winter shots, I should try that sometimes.

Pic 178 is indeed gorgeous, fall pictures almost always are...

May 2007 bring us more Urland updates !

    take care

    -John

Ok, I'll give it a try.

Is it the "HaDiKo Studentenwohnheim" by Spocky/SFBT on the right to the avenue rail overpass? The original building is in Karlsruhe, I think.

    Hallo Bernhard.

I like the feel of Südstadt, it reminds me a little of these former industry areas turning into thriving business / residential areas in Europe (particularly Zurich West and, after your Vienna reference, Vienna Simmering came to my mind). That's a great achievement my friend. As for the Zentralfriedhof, it looks like there aren't a lot of dead people in Gleiwemünde 2.gif, I think that's basically a good thing... makes it a safe place to live. That picture is also my favorite one, actually.

I also liked the snow pics... I hope we'll have some snow here too sometime soon. I would love to see traffic in the city collapse due to the first snow of the winter... we haven't had any snow so far.

    Take care my friend.

Like Rick dangerous said I will also go for the HaDiKo from SFBT, but that is easy to say now.

Snow pictures are indeed looking very nice, and your presentation of Gleiwemunde has been interesting to follow. I hope you have enjoyed making it as much as I have enjoyed looking at everything in this city.

    Hello to All!

I know it has been a while since the last update but RL keeps me busy (still is doing ... )

In addition to this I finally managed it finally to upload my railway crossings tutorial – for those who are interested just click the link in my sig – for the others: Next time I am going to complain about too much railway crossings you cannot say “I don't know” any more ... you have been warned!

As always before we start the replies:

Schulmanator: Thanks for the compliment! Actually Gleiwemünde was the first big town I did since I started Urland back in 2005. I tried quite some new techniques there and all in all I am rather satisfied with their outcome ... 1.gif

Phil (pvarcoe): Thanks for the compliment and here we are. Though for Rodewitz I chose a bit different style of presentation than before ...2.gif

Livin in Sim: Yes, snow in a clear cold full moon light with some distant definitely has its own magic ... I enjoyed it back when I was living on the countryside. The tutorial is uploaded (see my sig) and here we start small town! I hope you like it – this will be a bit different than before! 19.gif

RushHourFreak: Thanks for the compliment! I hope you will like the new “chapter” of this CJ, too! 1.gif

Anubis89: Actually I built this town in about 300 years ingame, bulldozed a lot, tried out a lot, got some bad crashes and tried to give each section its own face while I was developing the map. When I began I only had the Autobahn (highway), the railway lines and some roads that I used as development axis. 10.gif

KingTitan: Naaaa ... Just the 'final' update of Gleiwemünde – this cj goes on1 I just had (and still have!) too much joy with this little CJ o' mine – especially because of all your great support!

But on the other hand sometimes I am a bit nasty and play with word and word formatting to make you read the whole text ...9.gif

John Darmok): Let's begin with your last sentence: As much updates as RL lets me do though right now RL is really a pain in the neck ...

This area was the forst time that I really used the commercial farms from BSC. I guess if I fin dthe time I am going to make some more of them in the LE ... . let's see 2.gif

    *lowers voice*  38.gif

    about the Holdiday ...

did you see the Kellys next to it ... rumours say most guests there don't stay too long ...

    *raises voice again*

about the Plugin folder ... I once tried to keep it under 750 mb,, then under 1 gb, then under 1,5... now with the startupmanager I am between 1,3 and 1,8 gb ... oh well ...46.gif

About final update: As I wrote in the reply for KingTitan I am sometimes nasty enough to play with words and formats ...9.gif

jacqulina Thanks for the compliment my friend! As I wrote before – around 300 years ingame or almost one year real time ... there is a German paraphrase: “Gut Ding will Weile haben” - A good thing needs its time .... 21.gif

funkytim88: Thanks for the compliment! But ending one cities does not mean ending a whole CJ ... ! 1.gif

Benedict: Thanks for the compliment! As I posted in my tutorial thread I always wonder why people put so much effort in sunken / raises highways and then forget railways ... 1.gif

Rick Dangerous: Bingo! The villa is yours! 39.gif44.gif

BTW I once thought seriously about moving in there. A friend of mine was living there – nice place in the green but not far away from anything and very close to my old university.

    Your new Adress in Urland:

    Rick Dangerous

    Uferweg 4

    D-12349 Rodewitz – Elritzhain

    Congratulations! 39.gif39.gif39.gif39.gif

Mkwetters: Welcome at my humble CJ! When doing rural areas you should visit pages 7, 8 and 9 - there you'll find my rural tutorial. I guess I am going to repost it in my tutorial thread as it is still fully valid! 1.gif

    Phil (PhilsCafe): Hallo Phil!

Yes, this quarter is partially one or the less “uniform” quarters in Gleiwemünde butr has its own spirit. And about the Zentralfriedhof:Seems to be people dying elsewehere whatever this may mean ...21.gif

About the snow ... snow here in Istanbul isn't very nice – especially since it becoming muddy and dirty grey very fast. And right now we have spring weather here – so much about the global warming up! 30.gif

Kwakelaar: Actually I guess you had as much joy following it as I had making it even though it took so long ... I hope you will like the new chapter, too ...2.gif

About the Hadiko – you are right but Rick was faster ...

natuurzoon: Hello and welcome to my CJ! Glad you like those wintershots! 1.gif

And now, Ladies and Gentlemen, we finally open the next chapter:

    Update 16.1

    A new town: Rodewitz

This chapter will be a bit different then the ones before. Rodewitz is almost completly zoned, no  place anymore for big (or even medium) projects but in most places the final detail work is missing and/or  I am not completly satisfied with the grwon buildings. So I am going to finish off this town together with you! According to this suggestions are more than ever welcome!

    rod160xt7.jpg

Like so many German  communities Rodewitz consists of some seddlements with different sizes that are united under one mayor and one administration.

The main city of Rodewitz is the Altstadt with the Neustadt on the other shore of the Rodewitz.

Interesting fact is that there is still no direct road connect between Altstadt and Neustadt - only railway line, ferry and two bridges rather far away from the center.

    rod161sc2.jpg

Rodewitz Altstadt. Some buildings were already blown away to make place for haarlemmergold great new 1*1 BATs. Yet the centreal plaza with that oversized bus station in front of the Railway station is an eye sore and I guess I have to replace that ingame temple with a nice church.

The Rodwiz shore in general need a hand to be finished ... right now  I am not really satisfied with my experiments with the MM trees ...

    rod162ld3.jpg

Rodewith Neustadt. Too many repetitive ingame buildings (boy do I hate these Ritzy's ... ) and I have to do some LE work there to finish the retaining wall at the RR bridge!

    rod163wz0.jpg

Rodewitz Rübleberg. Small village and some industry. That highway tunnel did made me quite some problems as I will tell you later in the resp. update!

Sorry - Update no finished - hit Reply buttom too early ...

    rod164ff7.jpg

Rodewith Elritzhain: Some industry, a nice little village at teh shore (which aren't finished either .. 8.gif) and the place of a lucky winner:

    rod165gp7.jpg

    rod166qq2.jpg

Ooooops - wrong title - this is of cause Gaubweiler, the neightbour of Rübleberg ... Not much to say - some houses and farsm and a church .. not even a railway stop here ...

    rod167pg0.jpg

This pic means a whoe lotta work! No so much with the lower shore, but the uppper ... typical place of quit-without-saving ....

And of course I did some detail work ... here are some closeups:

    rod168em7.jpg

    rod169sv9.jpg

That's almopst all for today - almost because:

Where shall I start with the net chapter?

A  - Altstadt - especially the plaza at the station!

    B - Neustadt - I just say: RITZY'S!!!!!!

C - Rübleberg und Gaubweiler - not much work left

    D - Elritzhain - finishing Rick's place ....

E - Eselsfurt - just look at that bare shore ...

    But that wasn't all ...

Wanna become Rick's neighbour? Well then ...

Some time ago in Gleiwemünde I quoted a REALLY famous movie. You definately know it. Because of this I cannot tell you director or artists.

The first one who can tell me the movie gets a villa in Elritzhain! Promise!

    Untill then

    Have fun!

Hi Bernhard. A very interesting update there my friend. Rebuilding cities is actually one of my favorite parts of SimCity. In RL you never get the chance to build cities from scratch anymore... so I think that's very realistic. I'm really looking forward to these updates. I like what you've done already.

As for the poll, I'd go for A. Altstadt, just because I think it might become a tough nut to crack to preserve the 'historical' basis while adding some new development.

    Have a great week!

        Hello at All!

RLS has its cold fingers firmly wrapped around my neck so I couldn't do much propgress anyway ... time to push my CJ  up from page 6  ...

    As always before we start:

jacqulina: Thanks fro the compliment my friend! This time will be a lot of "work in progress" - pcis, hope you like them, too! 1.gif

Schulmanator: This is the way I normally play the game - doing the "rough" big works like zoning, then going to the details, check if everything fits and redo it if necessary. By far not the fastes way to play SC4 but an old man like me doesn't have to break speed records ...  21.gif  9.gif

Kwakelaar: Nice to see again my friend. This time will be some work in progress + LE work ... I still haven't found the time for BATting so ... 21.gif

BTW: What about those nice residentials I saw some time ago in your BAt thread? 2.gif

    PhilsCafe: I hope it'll stay interesting...  10.gif

Yeah, those recreations are rather tricky if you don't want to blow up the whole neighbourhood and instead try to increase the overall picture by redoin some central points like that plaza ... I must confess I really needed some time for this small update .... 21.gif

owenluby: Thanks! Not so much railways today but that may change ... 2.gif

shinkansen1: Actually ... I didn't use any canal set here. The walls are Jeroni's rural wall (now on www.sc4devotion.com) and PEG'S pond kit with its transition to the ocean (this loks abit like PEG's CSK, too). AFAIK not all CSK lots are on the STEX, a look on www.simpeg - PEG's new adress - might be worth it ... 16.gif

Shanna: Thanks for the compliment from one of the best terraformers. I am rather proud that two of the best nature CJers (you and Jacquline) 48.gifare visiting my humble CJ ... This time it is more urban but there will be more rural ubpdates! Promise! 19.gif

pvarcoe: May I say welcome back old friend? Glad yo still like my rural setups! 5.gif

So for now let's go in meduas res! No finished area today but quite some work in progress ... I took an example from my friend Darmok and though I should show you a bit of my approach of (re-)doing my cities together with some rather *****ish LE works of mine  ... (don't say I didn't warn you!)

    Update 16.2: "Bahnhofsplatz"

    or "Horror Vacui"

    The situation before the works:

    rod1610rt1.jpg

    Some last, already historical closeups:

    rod1611vf8.jpg

Not really bad yet not convincing (me), too .. that big Busstation is a kind of center but its capacity of 15.000 is far more than I need in such a small town like Rodewitz ...

    rod1612lr2.jpg

Don't ask me how long I stared on this situation without any clue how to continue ....

The road that leeds to the tunnel is still there but I wonder if I should replace it by a "Subway" - Underpath as noone is using to to access the small habrourt and industrial area ....

So let the search begin ... A decision was made - a nice replacement for the Maxis temple is to be found ...

    rod1613yh9.jpg

    *sigh*

    ... let's go on ....

    rod1614ue5.jpg

I didn't know I still have so much churches in my plugin folder .. it took a while untill I found my choice as it was rather at the end of my landmark menu:

    rod1615kv3.jpg

In Southwest Germany you can find a lot of nice plaza plastered with the local red-brownish sandstone - even in conjunction with churches made of bricks in the 19th centur. As I couldn't find such plazas I wanted I had to fire up the LE and made them myself ... lazy LE-***** that I am ... 34.gif ....

I don't now how often I placed and corrected these trees .... I haven't decided if they will stay, too. They have the rigth shape and the right crown but aren't they a bit ... too tall? 30.gif

I used the asfalt-coloured park bays by purpose. Different surfaces are often used to show which areas are for pedestrian and which for cars! ( I planned such a kind of plaza IRL some times ago so ... )

The pics above show the same buildings from two sides. Since I installed Odd's homes Erdmoebel's Berlin buildings are hardly growing but I really love if they pop up. The flat roofed yellow building is another one of harlemmergold's cerations - you can find this type almost everywhere. 36.gif

That highrise surprised me a bit as I cannot remember zoning only one tie with high density ... 47.gif

And the Parking lot from Jeroni that I plopped in the very beginning to balance out my budget has been replaced by some grown parking lots with a little bit of commercial .... 17.gif

The money isn't needed at all. With twice as much income as cost and roughly 2.200.000 Simoleons cash I don't need a money cheat  game parameter change for comfortably rebuilding my town ...

    That's it for today!

    Suggestions are welcome!

    Have fun!
