It was something like 2.42GB until my game started to crash somewhat frequently. I then got the datapacker, and now it is down to 1GB.

My plugin folder is 1.21 files. It's mostly custom commercial buildings.

I have about 400MB of mods for SC4, but in another game I have 9-10GB of mods most likely more.

Highest would be over 3GB. I might as well delete some theme plugins due to space.

I've got well of a gigabyte of plugins, but it doesn't faze me much because of my 8g Ram!

5.7 gigs in My Documents folder and 2.4 gigs in the Sim City 4/Plugins folder. It takes forever for my game to load... but I can't do without all of them. sigh.  I used datpacker once before too, but I found ill suited for use when updates occur.

Wow Mr. Moose, it's impressive that you can keep your plugins folder below a gigabyte in size! Mine is around 1.3 GB and growing. I still think there's more things I could download, like modular airports and custom seaports, which are going to substantially increase my plugin size and increase loading times :D. But I don't care how long it takes to load because the improvement to the game makes it worth the wait.

I just looked at the size of some elements of my plugins folder and I'm amazed that you can keep it under a gig. My NAM installation is 487 MB, which is almost half a GB right there spent on the unofficial second SC4 expansion pack. Then, all the commonly BSC-related dependencies (props, textures, trees, etc.) come in at 407 MB. So that's almost 900 MB just for the NAM and most of my dependencies. The other two major indispensable game-improvement mods I have--the IRM and SPAM--each take up only 13 MB and 8 MB respectively. (plus another 4 MB for the MTP, which is a dependency for SPAM) So after all those things, the rest of my plugins folder is occupied by buildings and lots, a tree controller and terrain mod, and of course the gameplay bug fixes and Maxis' buildingprop files.

I am going to try and keep it under 2 GB, and I'd bet that's pretty doable. It's pretty easy to get up to 1 GB of plugins because the NAM takes up half of that and all the BSC dependencies take up 400 MB. (not to mention all the stuff that the dependencies are required for) Come to think about it, I don't even know if I have all the BSC dependencies yet!

Mine is currently at 3.46 GB with 12,970 files altogether, but it will most likely increase a bit more :)

At this number the game takes two minutes to reach region view on cold start, that is to say the very first time I launch the game. And takes a minute to load a city.

But on warm start, that is the next time I run the game after cold start, it takes 30 seconds to reach region view & 15 seconds or so to load a city.

If I loaded the full NAM, I'd definitely be in the 1.3 GB range, but I don't load RHW, GLR or RRW.  The new compiler for the NAM controllers (RULs) keeps things down.  I also convert large sets of BAT files into .DATs, but this saving is small.  It mostly just cuts down the number of files.  I use Files2DAT by ilive to keep control of things.

I am heavily into PEG's custom seaports, but still try to keep things down.  I have lots of disk space, but not much patience when loading a program.  I very carefully keep only plugin files in my Plugins folder.  I keep a Downloads folder for everything else, usually in the original ZIP format.  That folder takes 6.5 GB or which 2.9 GB are SC4 related.  The rest are from various vendors for things I've picked up.

My Pegasus Productions Plugins take 92.9 MB, but the downloads folder is 105.4MB.  Linux has a program called Disk Usage Analyzer you might find interesting.

I try to keep readme files and image files out of my plugins folder so that the game doesn't have to waste time combing thru unnecessary files. I'm not sure if there's anything I can or should remove from my NAM installation--maybe the HSR and Bullet Train Mod. The only time I use monorail is to smooth out slopes, so why have the Bullet Train mod? I don't have plans to put in any sort of high-speed rail in my region so I could just give those NAM components the boot. Currently I don't use the SAM (I don't see anything wrong with the Maxis style of streets) and I haven't used the GLR yet, although I might use it in the future. I might also use the SAM in more rural parts of my region--who knows? Depending on what I do and don't use in the future, I'll reinstall the NAM with just the stuff I need.

Well, the nice thing about the NAM installer is you can run it as often as you change your mind.  Just be careful to not drop anything you've used anywhere or you'll get some funny results.

7555 files in 614 folders at 1.57gb in the documents/plugins folder where I try to keep only the actual lots

4635 files in 172 folders at 3.61gb in the simcity4/plugins folder where I try to keep all the dependencies (models, description files and so on) and "core" mods (nam, terrain mod, data mods and the likes)

all trying to keep a - at least for me - logical sorting

aswell as

3136 files in 90 folders at 2.55gb of inactive plugins

makes 15326 files in 876 folders at 7.73gb of total plugin data

I'm rather shock of how far I've been:

Size: 3.79 GB (4,074,044,346 bytes) [size on disk: 3.81 GB (4,100,706,304 bytes)]

12,250 Files, 2,394 Folders

My plugins are chronologically arranged as I make a new folder every time I download a bunch of plugins.

My plugin folder has grown quite a bit in the last year.  Currently I'm at 1.93 GB in 984 folders with 5357 files.

More than I ever intended but what can I say - I like options.  I've now reached a mode where I'm gradually culling the sets I'm considering myself least likely to use or that no longer suit my tastes, but given that nearly half of the total is attributable to universal dependencies and the NAM, any cuts I make aren't going to be too significant.  Another big space taker is Xannepan's X-Port functional airports.  Seeing as I've yet to built a large airport(s) but intend to, I'm more in a wait-and see position with that.  I also don't have very much in terms of aircraft, so that 500 subset is bound to grow a bit in the future.  Beyond that, half of what remains are growable lots.  Can't have enough variety there, IMHO.  It should also be noted that my unpacked archive is about 8% larger.

(Bear in mind that Mac OS X calculates disk space in terms of 1 KB = 1000 B, etc. for some reason instead of in units of 1024.  Therefore the 4.38 GB figure is more like 4.08 GB in the truer sense.)

2.67 GB.

I would also like to state that a previous comment about not being able to upgrade laptops false. My Dell Inspiron 5520 15R came with 6GB RAM stock and I put it at 10GB (2GB+8GB) and it runs strong. It also loads up my SC4 pretty fast and the cities are a breeze, until I turn on hardware rendering and the graphics card's horrid 2D rendering kicks in and I get 3 FPS...
