Looks nice, but you need seawalls along the coast, since such a big city really can't do without one...

This is a truly remarkable region. Tell me, does your computer ever rebel with cities that big and refuse to cooperate?

I've learned some very interesting things from your transportation networks. Where did you get the retaining walls you're using on your highways? Also, what are you using for the bullet train? I've done some searching, but I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for.

    Replies:

un1:  Wow, thanks a ton!  Glad you like the drive on the Multi-RHW.  I feel that adding a few generating lots on the highway give it a more realistic traffic flow for a city this size.

dfnva:  You like the background music again?  Great!  Glad you liked the video!

Jim1994:  Enjoyed it?  Thanks a lot!

    Goldfish4209:  Hehe... Thanks!

-First post here?  Welcome to The GTR!  Check the table of contents for a list of updates and feel free to ask any questions you have!  I hope to hear from you again!

Cidwm:  You like the Multi-RHW?  Lucky for you I have some more pics in this update of it!  Ya my driving skills aren't the best eh?  3.gif

zangle06:  Thanks!  Aside from what Patricius Maximus has already stated, if I ever uploaded this region you would have to download all the plugins (2.5GB worth).  I cannot upload the plugins because that is infringing on all the uploader's rights who have worked hard to make all the stuff you see in this CJ and elsewhere.  I hope you understand.

Patricius Maximus:  Hey, thanks a lot!  Yes that was the Multi-RHW that I showcased in the very first update here.

asturianu:  Why, thank you very much!

-Thats funny to hear about your UDI story.  Did you pass your UDIer's test???   3.gif

nihonkaranws:  Well I have good news for you, I got some seawalls!  You will see it in the next (hint hint) update!  9.gif

Mr. Monorail Man:  Thanks a lot!  GTR in The Sims TV?  Is that even possible???

Theirishnintendonerd:  Thanks!  Glad you liked it!  4.gif

-If more is what you want, its more you shall get!

nihonkaranws (2):  lol!  Great to hear you like it so much!  9.gif

Alafel:  Wow!  Thanks for your comment!  My computer seems to handle the loads.  But if you look at some previous pages I did have a problem once that nearly killed this CJ entirely!

-You learned some stuff too?  I hope my examples help you make some great transit networks and city cores!

-You can find the walls here:  https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=12982

Twenty20:  Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video and the music!

connorc24:  Hey, thanks a lot!  You want to know how to make a video?  I did post a small tutorial in the "Show Us Your Videos!" thread, found here:   https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=23&threadid=99346&enterthread=y

    Update time!

Getting away from the questions and videos, its time for a classic update!   2.gif

This update (The GTR's 71st if you are keeping track), will feature recent development in Terran Settlement as well as a few other snapshots.  I hope you like it!   4.gif

    Picture Information:

    NOTICE:  Please Read!

Before I post some pictures of my cities, please know that I strive for the best quality of my images possible.  Every picture from here on-in is not photoshopped in any way, and is taken directly from the game to show you exactly what I see in the game.  The only editing done is converting the .PNG file to .JPEG.

***IMPORTANT***    Also, please know that my pictures are COMPRESSED, and are NOT RESIZED! When you resize a picture, a ton of the image's quality is lost, and is shrunk to comply with ST's picture size limits.  Compressing the image retains the quality, but looks terrible when squeezed to comply with site limits.

But, I have found a loophole in this problem.  Each compressed picture displayed will be linked to the actual uncompressed, true image.  All you have to do to view the image in its FULL RESOLUTION (1920x1200) is to simply click on the compressed image displayed in this city journal (800x500).  The reason that the images are not 800x600 is because I present my pictures in widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio), making the image much more appealing for the human eye's stereoscopic vision.

If you have any questions or comments about how I display my images, feel free to post a reply.

Awesome job Hal (Can I call you Hal, by the way? 4.gif )

I love the extensive and superb use of the NAM curves and roads...

Hey can you tell me where you got those RIRO, LILO, and Highway feeder roads?

Nice! Another Multi-RHW.44.gif The RHW is starting to become my favorite road net work to use for Highways in my cities. Yours inspire me to work on mine more.

Now on your driving skills its not you but the sims who can't drive, they need to move out the way.2.gif

Edit: Nice park on the right side of pic 6. Canal prop?

It's nice to see a development update again. It's looking good as always.

I suppose the weave lane was necessary because of limited space?

When I develop a city, I build more bridges, ramps, and spaghetti junctions until weaving has been completely eliminated. Of course, I'm sure you've seen that in the Patrician Showcase.

I'll be looking forward to more.

Nice work. A question: How successful are you in forcing buildings to grow on the footprints you specify?

Another great showcasing of the Multi-RHW network, sunken highways, and bridges. I really liked that bridge shot, the two supertall skyscrapers to the side and amount of traffic did it for me. I noticed that you got the Midrise Consultants building to grow, for some reason, it never does for me. I hate how some buildings grow like mushrooms and others hardly ever grow at all. Sometimes, it all works fine. Having lots of CC does help a lot. 4.gif

Yes! GTR in Sims TV IS possible! What you do is place the video in- The Sims 2/Movies/Brodcast/any folder in the Broadcast folder. And that's how you do it.

This is one of those times when I really wish SC4 had full 3d viewing angles. I know Maxis had their reasons for designing it the way they did, but just imagine what that skyline would look like from the side...

I do have a question, though: In the third picture up from the bottom, on the middle left, it looks like a road is taking a curved dive into the ground. What is that, exactly?

anik:  Thanks a lot!  Yes you can call me Hal, but its not my real name 3.gif

-About the RIRO stuff, they are made using the RHW network.  If you have it, then you can make it!

nihonkaranws:  Thanks for your comments!  Ya, I like that shot too.

rushman5:  Glad to know you like the curves and videos!

hamish:  Welcome back!  You did miss a bunch of stuff, and you can look through the table of contents to find what you want to see.

    -Thanks for the reply!

Cidwm:  Thanks!  Glad you like the Multi-RHW!

-No that is just a park.  No canal set is used in this region.

    jacqulina:  Hey, thanks a lot!

Patricius Maximus:  Well, glad you enjoyed it!  Yes the weave lane should help transferring traffic.  Its a low speed area (the sign in that pic says 70 KM/H, so its not as dangerous as you think.)

Goldfish4209:  Thanks!  I am quite successful in growing buildings from zones.  Most of the buildings you see in the region are grown, not plopped.

Smarty218:  Yes it has. Glad you are enjoying the updates as the region grows!

    068664663:  Thanks a lot!

ky72x:  Glad you enjoyed the pictures in the update!   You can't get it to grow?  It does reqire a lot of space.  Its a rarity compared to Wren Insurance! 3.gif

    -What does CC mean anyway?

Jim1994:  Thanks!  I got that building on the STEX I think.  I think BLaM made it and it was one of their more recent additions.

Mr. Monorail Man:  Hmm... Well I never knew that.  I don't own TS2, so I can't do it.  3.gif  But you can!

jmoats3:  Great!  Glad you like the NAM curves!

-You can make the Multi-RHW with the RHW network.  I have also posted a guide (found in my signature) of how to make it.

un1:  Hehe... But you didn't!  Glad to hear you enjoyed this one!

    Alafel:  Ya, me too.

-That's a Big Dig Tunnel by blahdy, a fellow NAM associate.  I think he locked the set on the STEX, but you can still get it from SC4D's LEX.  Just type his name into the uploader search.

    n-m-2k8-yeah:  Hey, thanks a lot!

beebs:  Thanks!  As you already know, I love the RHW!  Expect more to come in the future!

    Update time!

This update will sort of be a continuation of the last one, showcasing some areas and development in Terran Settlement.

-But don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the airport and the interchange!  I am still planning those!

    Pictures:

Click the images for full resolution! (1920x1200)  See my picture information section on the first update of this page for more info.

Looking south from the last update's bridge photo, a large parclo interchange connects the RHW with sufrace streets.

    TerranSettlement-Aug22321217534574.jpg

This ground/elevated/sunken highway interchange is becoming busier and busier as the area around it develops.  It took me forever to get the junction to look properly due to the sunken, ground, and elevated highways that connect with this.

    TerranSettlement-Aug22321217534656.jpg

A look at a new section of the city.  Aside from the brown tenantments, this is a pristine area.

    TerranSettlement-Aug24321217534836.jpg

A look at the new large intersection, now open to traffic.

    TerranSettlement-Aug28321217534917.jpg

The new skyscraper is nearly finished, and there has been more growth around it.

    TerranSettlement-Feb23331217535626.jpg

This will be the next area to be developed.  Roads and additional infrastructure are in place.  All thats left is zoning, civic structures (parks, fire station, etc), and time needed for development.

    TerranSettlement-Aug23321217534755.jpg

Sea wall construction has also begun in the city to help prevent ongoing erosion.

    Section 1.  Before:

    TerranSettlement-Aug29321217534988.jpg

    Section 1. After:

    TerranSettlement-Sep6321217535117.jpg

    Section 2.  Before:

    TerranSettlement-Sep7321217535140.jpg

    Section 2.  After:

    TerranSettlement-Jan26331217535503.jpg

I am still a little new with using seawalls, as you can tell from the pictures.  More and more seawalls will be constructed in the city to help improve the coastlines and riverfront.

I hope you enjoyed this update!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

I like your use of the runabouts to break up the repetitive intersections seen in most simcity 4 cities plus the NAM curves used in pic 6 gives that new area a nice non grid look to it.
