Awesome CJ. How did you get those cruise ships though. cant find them on the STEX. also, in the update before this one, there were some double bridges of highways. but flat. I dont know how to explain it lol. Without the stupid hill that starts the bridge. I can never get it to appear like that

-Its a Japanese site, but I believe its there.

Patricius Maximus:  Thanks for getting back to TT (TTC)!

    News Update!

The Greater Terran Region has just hit TWO Milestones at once

    1.  A review of The Greater Terran Region has been posted.  Only those deserving enough have the privilege to be reviewed.  patriots_1228, who is new to The GTR, provided an honest, unbiased review of the region.   Here is a link to the review if you want to check it out.

    2.  The Greater Terran Region has become one of the most viewed City Journals on Simtropolis.  Click here for a list of the most popular City Journals on Simtropolis.  As a Mayor's Diary over at SC4D, The GTR is the most viewed MD in the "Recently Published" area, and hopefully, will soon make it into the next category, "Best Sellers" if 100 replies are achieved.

I also believe that The Greater Terran Region got into this week's top 5 Mayor's Diaries on SC4D, by growth, according to The SC4 Devotion Mayor's Diary Statistics..  I wish ST had something like this!  34.gif

Now, a region update!  I have been able to clean up the region a lot, making the terrain and water actually use the same texture throughout the entire region!  I also have some transportation plans for the region.  Have a look:

The Region photos are extremely large.  Please click on the thumbnails to view them in their natural resolution.

-The thumbnails are directly linked to the images, so you should see no advertisements or popups!   9.gif

    Region view:

    Transportation view:

    greaterterranregion14dm1.th.jpg

Long-Term Highway proposals.  Please note that these are just proposals and have not been finalized.  Light blue represents possible routes, where the lime green shows some RHW networks that are hard to see in this view.

    greaterterranregion14coiw2.th.jpg

    Current Region Stats:

    Residential Population:  15,352,336

    Commercial Population:  11,226,541

    Industrial Population:  125,628

Compare this to the region view in the first post to see a drastic difference.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this update!  More development is to come!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

I like the region views. A long-term highway plan can do some good for a region.

I'll use an example from an area in Patian County.

Pre-development. Notice that the northern connector appears to serve no purpose. It was a part of my long-term plan for the area.

    patiancountysatef5ee3.jpg

The area today. Development went along the northern connector, and it is now a busy highway. It is also embedded in a seperate network of RHW's.

    patiancountynp4.jpg

This shows that long-term planning is a good thing for an area.

I modified mine several times. Although I must say that yours is much more comprehensive than mine was.

Also, congratulations on the milestones. You'll soon hit 15,000 views.

Your city is growing quite large just like this city journal. It is excellent. Your transportation network is one of the best I've seen. Keep up the good work.

    Cheers.

-Also, thats an excellent example of how long-term planning can help growth.  Thanks for sharing!

-Yes, The GTR will soon hit 15,000 views.  I can't believe this!

    Jim1994:  Thanks a lot!

-Those lines (glitches) are caused because I run SC4 at such a high resolution.  When SC4 came out, it was not high-def or widescreen-compatible.  However, with a few overrides, I have been able to get SC4 to perform like a brand new game with minimal consequences (The black lines in region view and a few texture glitches).  Running SC4 like this also enables me to produce high-resolution pictures with ease (1920x1200), and thats why all photos here are linked to their full, original resolutions.

rusty_777:  Yes it is.  The GTR is known for its Transportation systems and dominating skyline.  Thanks for your comments!

    sc4portugal:  Wow!  Thanks a ton!

SirUnger:  Thanks for the link!  I will try these out!

-Glad you enjoyed the region update!

    Update time!

Its time to show some developments happening in the city of Escape.  As I begin to expand and redesign the city, I must first look at the current state of the city closely.

Also, the region's council has given the green light start construction of many of the proposed highways as soon as possible!

    Pictures:

Click the images for full resolution! (1920x1200)  See my picture information section on the first update of this page for more info.

A central look at the new CBD.  If look closely, you can see a raised road bypass the entire area.  (Cilcking for full resolution may help.  Its next to the bullet train line).

    Escape-Mar20401215910461.jpg

The city has begun to reconstruct a busy road in the outskerts of town to prepare for this area's development:

    Escape-Feb29401215910218.jpg

A closer look at the current terminus of the new road.  Widening will continue to push northward.

Looking at a major urban junction and rail station.

Stadium complex.  To the south is a busy older RHW and overpass.

    Escape-Jan19401215909717.jpg

However, before that overpass was built, an intersection existed.  It was The Greater Terran Region's busiest, and was a traffic nightmare.  This old photo shows the worst pileup in the region's history which led to the overpass' construction:

(Sorry, this image is not in any higher resolution!   Cry2)

    The image

A large, multi-highway complex on the east side of the basin connects to the Mar Sara Bridge directly left of this photo:

    Escape-Mar8401215910347.jpg

Looking east from the last photo, we see this huge network compress itself into a 12 lane superhighway with a collector-express system.

    Escape-Mar12401215910377.jpg

The collector/express system terminates at this highway interchange.  The remaining highway heads east out of The Greater Terran Region.

    Escape-Mar17401215910422.jpg

In the northwest district, a new microwave power plant helps quench some of the region's huge power thirst.

    Escape-Mar31401215910580.jpg

Well, I can't believe that's 10 images already!  I hope you enjoyed this update!

Of course, more is to come...

This CJ is about to crack 15,000 views!  (and about to hit 3,000 as an MD at SC4D as well!)  Thanks everyone for your continued support!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Wow, I've missed some updates here. The region maps are nice... do you ever number/label your major thoroughfares?

I also like the pic of the big accident. I've never seen anything like that happen when I've been playing.

That stretch of raised road was cool. A nice bypass to avoid all of that downtown traffic. Hopefully it doesn't backfire and get too congested, though. Nice avenue y-stacks, the one by the superhighway was my favorite. I remember that shot of the huge pile-up, too! Man, that's crazy. 4.gif

Patricius Maximus:  Thanks a lot!  Glad you enjoyed the update!

n-m-2k8-yeah:  Been following it for a few years?  This CJ hasn't even been up for a year 3.gif!

-Anyways, thanks a lot for your comments.  That elevated rail you see isn't an elevated rail at all, but a bullet train line!

dfnva:  Welcome back! I have thought of some labels, but I have never followed-through on that.

-Yes that accident is massive, eh?

penguin007:  Thanks a lot!  That is a classic photo, isn't it?

068664663:  Yes that picture is old, that's why I gave it an older look.  Those were indeed good times...

ky72x:  Glad you like the infrastructure!  That raised road has not been congested yet, but we will see what happens as it gets busier!  And yes that old accident photo is classic.

jacqulina:  Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this update!

remanh:  Wow, your first post is here?  I am honoured!  Glad you like the transport system!

-There is actually no mod needed to make the collector/express system, you can do that with SC4 right out of the box.  Here is guide that should help you make it:  https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=4267

Patricius Maximus:  LOL!  I was away from ST for a bit that day.  I removed it when I logged back on.

    dabadon5:  Hey, thanks a lot!

    Update time!

I pose to you a question. Where should I build a huge airport for The Greater Terran Region?   42.gif

The time has come to build such a facility as the entire region is growing from all directions.  The three major airports in the region are very cramped and overcrowded.

-Although expansion projects for the current airports are proposed, they will only provide short-term relief.  A huge new airport is needed to ensure that The Greater Terran Region remains prosperous in the long term.

There have been three proposed sites for this airport thus far.  Each one has several pros and cons, and I am not entirely sure where to build it.

The best way for me to show the sites to you is through an updated region view.  This region update will also show you ongoing construction, the proposed expansion areas for the existing airports, and new highways that are being built.

    Legend:

Blue:  Airport area (both existing and proposed).

    airport_sign.jpg:  Existing airport.

    under_construction_sign.jpg:  Highway construction.

    Clipboard01-7.jpg:  Major interchange construction.

    A:  Proposed airport site.

The Region photo is extremely large.  Please click on the thumbnail to view it in its native resolution.

-The thumbnail is directly linked to the image, so you should see no advertisements or popups!   19.gif

    greaterterranregionus7.th.jpg

    Pros/cons to each area.

A-On flat, open land, central location.

    -Far from current developed area.

B-The lake provides a natural "airport free zone", whereas this would limit high-rise construction nearby on land.  Central location.  Room for expansion.

-Very expensive to build on water, far from current developed area.

    C-Close to current developed area.

-Far from the rest of the region, consumes valuable coastal areas.

Its up to you to decide! If you know of another suitable location to build an airport, let me know!

-So far I am leaning to site A.  Is this the best location?

I hope you enjoyed the new region view!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

    A or C.

I choose A because it seems like that would be a good location for some suburbs, and the suburbs could be located around the airport. It would look realistic and there wouldn't be a risk of planes hitting a building.

I choose C because if set up correctly it would also be a great location. I would keep more small and medium rises to the west of it, but have the runways face north and south. It's also incredibly close to the city.

    Cheers.

I vote location A. It looks to be the best location to put the airport due to being close to 4 of your cities.

Site A for me. It is on a nice, flat location, no water reclamation is required, and it's close to the rest of the region.

I like the region view and the labels.

I say A or C, both are a good ways away from any hindering development but still relatively close to the large cities. I'll be looking forward to see the new airport, it's going to be pretty huge!
