ops, Bank of China, sorry for inattention. I'm currently searching for Landmarks and some 3x2 3x3 and 3x4 towers on stex since there's not many interesting standard office buildings compatible with these sizes. The 4x4 skyscrapers are really fine to me.

Well here is my new CBD i am working on, though i AM having a bit of trouble picking some highrise residentials that would match up well with the current buildings.

Any suggestions my fellow simtropolitans?.

It depends. Intended style? North American/Australian? Euro? Asian? Middle East? :)

Mmmm i am not really going for any one style SUPERMESSI, just want them to look good with the rest of the buildings :).

Though as you can see in the image the majority of the buildings are from either Los Angeles or San Francisco, with a few others thrown in to mix things up! lol.

If it's a pain to use, it means you're doing it right. :P

Hm, that sounds familiar. :D

However, in this case the rail bridge is unrealistic anyway. Rail is FAR more slope-sensitive than road traffic, therefore you'd never see rail climbing up a dam only to cross a road, and then descend to ground level again. What you'll see there is a simple road overpass/underpass over/under a level railroad track.

If conditions are difficult, I sometimes like to raise one of the two crossing networks by a bit and lower the other one by a bit to achieve the necessary crossing height. However, this shouldn't be necessary here.

Downtown of a city near Akuraku. Work in progress and also posted in City Journal. I need suggestions and criticism, thanks :D

I really love the theme of the buildings! A great intersection there too.  Echo the sentiments on the rail over road. In many congested areas the grade crossing is redesigned to a road under rail to alleviate the dangers. This was especially the case in my hometown of Fresno, where one of the main avenues in the city intersected a mainline rail--after several serious collisions and unfortunate fatalities, they redesigned it.  Here's how it looks now:

I would them add some midrises from those architectural styles..

Also, just an opinion, i would demolish the tallest tower and comples (right of the pic).

Love the style so far (especially the parks you got back there), only thing I would recommend is a slope mod for that rail.

If it's a pain to use, it means you're doing it right. :P

ehehe I demolished the sports complex. Didnt look fine imo. The park is still there xD

I don't know but i guess i have a rail slope mod...

It is really hard!!!

But you guys are right, its unrealistic, and ive changed it already

Well now that I've fixed SC4 so that it doesn't crash every time I save, I've made some progress on what will become my latest remake of Tasbury, New Duveland! Any suggestions on what could be improved are much appreciated! :P

Also anyone know why the brown box only appears at high levels of zoom? When close in, the building appears fine.

Reminds me of Melbourne! I especially love that winding avenue by the beach! :D

Also, sorry, but that kind of brown box thing I don't know. It's happened to me too.

@City_Master: What's the building that shows up as a brown box in the furthest zoom?

As for the city, it's really great IMO. :) I like how you found a good way to end those river embankments. Many people either leave the river banks all unattended, even in the densest skyscraper jungle, or they spam embankments throughout the entire city. I also agree wth everything __B said. Dunno if there's much room, or need, for improvement. Maybe some beach MMPs to break the monotony (hasn't someone made little beach huts and other recreational stuff?), and a marina next to that ferris wheel might look cool. You'd think that a city with so much beach and water access would have a marina and some beach life going on. A commuincations tower on one of the hills might also add a nice visual touch.

@9gruntsand1hammer: Love the mid-rise/low-rise downtown! :golly: It's all very credible and homogeneous - except for a few BATs that aren't wuite up to the standards set by most of your BATs, namely that glaring red McDonald's (?), the pink mid-rise, and (albeit to a much lesser degree) that brownish mid-rise with the angled red roof.

What's that corner building in the first picture, though? I don't think I've ever seen it. I mean the modern one to the right, next to the old corner building with the bell tower.

@DavidDHetzel: I dig the dense and compact CBD - some quality BATs here as well. :) The transition to the industrial area is kind of abrupt, though. What are those huge, thin poles? Some cheat air purifiers or chimneys? Maybe you could use some mid-rise commercial as buffer between industry and CBD, thus creating a smoother transition and eliminating the need for purifier lots (if they are what I think they are, of course).

In the second pic (which I like even a bit more!), you could think of a way to eliminate all those leel railroad crossings, and I'd get rid of that blue building. It's just too saturated and stands out against the rest of the city.

Pretty impressive downtowns, everybody! Big or small, the overall quality level in this thread is amazing. Keep 'em coming! :thumb:

Thanks for the kind words T Wrecks.

The red building is actually a pizza hut. Some bats are older but I can never get rid of them, I like them all too much. The brown midrise I actually really like, I'm a fan of zero7's work and the texturing of his buildings.

I think this is the building you are talking about.

Cheers __B! My real first attempt at using angled roads. :P

It's the Bank of America Financial Center, but it says that it doesn't need any dependencies?

I'll definitely add a marina by the ferris wheel and more beach ploppables, don't know why I didn't do them sooner! Good idea with the communication towers too, although the city is surrounded by hills further out in the region, so i'll place them outside of this tile. :P

Looks good!

Downtown Dresden;

PICS

Nice downtown. How do you get that angle on the first two pictures?

It's just a regular image that's been mirrored horizontally.

Mirrored horizontally ? Any special program or can it be done with Windows ?

The first program that comes to mind for me is Photoshop, although Microsoft Paint can do it as well. If MS Paint (the garbage that it is) can do it, I'm pretty sure most of the better freeware photo editors can do it as well.

I use a freeware program called paint.net to do it in one step, but as mushy has said I'm sure it can be done with almost any image editing program.

Here's a few CBD pics of my current city called Avalon.

Looking west

Looking north at the Central Park with the Avalon Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the northern end. The Financial and Entertainment districts blend together on the east side of the park.

Finally for now, The Government District with Founders Park and the Olde Avalon Historical Preserve. A continuing work in progress!

Downtown Rudyard, a booming city from the early 1900's to the late 1970's when the manufacturing sector was in full swing. After the economic downturn of the 1980's downtown wasn't growing anymore and people were moving to the outer fringes of the city where the health and tech sectors are located. Since 1980, only two substantial buildings were built downtown, a 10 floor office building across from city hall,  and a new condominium in the north end of downtown which is the cities tallest building.
