I think we should have a subsection for cities unlimited on the forums, to prepare for it 4.gif. Sounds very promising.

And good with competition in the genre.

To be fully moddable it really has to be open source therefor it wont be. But they seem to have thought about modding so lets hope as much as possible is moddable.

SC4 RH isnt totally moddable either, if it would be, we wouldnt have to look forward to new installations of citysimulators 3.gif.

Pretty strong opinion you have there. Mind posting a little more and actually backing up that opinion?

I hope Monte Cristo and De Silva read threads like these, and understand that modding, and our ability to add to the game, are VERY important, and help prolong the life of the game. SC4 came out in 2004, and I- along with all you- still play it like it came out last month. There's always something new to add and play with in the game. I can't remember the last game that I played for over three years with such enthusiasm after all this time. I always lose the first disc of SC4, so every time I get a new computer or have to reinstall (playing SC4 on my third computer, still the SAME region since 2004), I have to go buy another copy. I've bought one copy of SC4 Original, three of Rush Hour, and two Delux Editions. Always worth it.

I sincerely hope that they read this, and understand what we want. No, we dont' want a souped-up "copy" of SC4. We want to go along those lines, though, and have great graphics, great (variable) gameplay, where we can set things to automatically run themselves if we want to make gameplay simpler, or micromanage every aspect if we want. We want the ability to add and modd the game to suit our wants and needs, to fix omissions and bugs or issues that give us trouble. All the content I have in SC4 would have cost SO much in expansion packs on my end, and how many millions on EA's end for them to have made. Continuous user-created content only helps the game's longevity.

Societies has something that I can let it get away with: the city development is (reportedly) influenced heavily by the way we control the behaviours. That is interesting, and I will probably play around with it in the interim until CU comes out. Although SCS looks like a cross between City Life and SimCoaster (or whatever it's called now). I didn't like the classes and such in CL...WAY too much work, and I hope CU doesn't have that (at least not to such a great extent). It was also too hard to build buildings. Very time consuming and inefficient. All that aside, I have high expectations for CU, and I hope that I don't have a great disappointment next year.

I am sure, however, that I will still be playing SC4 in a year.  Since this is getting long, I will end my statements here.

Thanks for sharing that interview the Monkeys Uncle. While I'm glad to hear that they are focusing on realism and variaty, I hope that they realise the need to put out quality custom content creation tools (like the BAT, LE), so that even after release the community can continue to add to the game. When SC4 first came out the amount of building repitition was huge, but as more and more custom content was added, the problem was solved. Whether or not CU has enough building variaty isn't neccessarily a large issue, as long as we can add to the game ourselves. A group of graphics artists can only do so much, its really up to the larger community to ensure that the game has the buildings we want in it. Anyways, good luck to the devs over at Monte Cristo, I can't wait to hear more about this game!

Edit: This line caught my eye: "I actually just flew by some of them just before answering your questions and I can tell you these maps are awesome on their realism. ^^"

While he might have meant that just as a figure of speech, is it possible that we will be able to control vehicles from a first person perspective?  With a fully 3d engine, they could actually make a worthwhile UDI system, unlike the pointless one in SC4.

@ Sc4jeeks I think Lightning War is perfectly entitled to his opinion, Simtropolis is not about taking sides so while most of us in this thread seems to support Cities Unlimited, SCS could be a fine game to play in its own right. That said; I am ready for you Cities Unlimited!!!!!!

Just wanted to repost what i posted on Urbs Urbis:

Monte Cristo seems far more dedicated to developing an actual city simulator than TM. The enthusiasm seems to be there, and the ambition. I wish them the best and it will probably be cities unlimited i buy as my next citybuilding and citymanagement game.

With that said, i am not closed for anything from Maxis, TM or anyone else. Its just that MC seems to be developing the kind of citysimulator that i personally want to play.

What? 42.gif  I never said he wasn't entitled to his opinion, I'd just like to know why he thinks that CU is "nothing new."

I remember there was a transport issue in CL

at curves(not T intersections), the cars simply disappear. Will that be catered as well?

By the looks of the pic its looking really good. I played City Life and liked it but I think it lacked depth and everything looked too "sameish" I hope this improves with this game.

Cant wait to hear/see more info on CU

I'm just happy to hear there are curves.

I have a question to those who have played CL ... is the "World Edition" an add-on pack i.e. the base City Life game is required? Or is it more akin to SC4 Deluxe i.e. one package = everything? I'm thinking about getting, just to check it out and whet my appetite for CU.

Spinmaster, the City Life World Edition is an Add-on to City Life (Base game) BUT you have to download it over the internet at monte Cristo's official site. The City Life Deluxe Edition is the Deluxe version, it includes City Life. The Deluxe version must be purchased at a store. I can't wait for CU!!!

I hope that the streets shown in MOST of all the posted pics arent the only ones you can use.  That would be a VERY big turn off for me.  I think that maybe they should do a version of the RHW or maybe a design your own intersection part of the game.  That would perk my interest right back up.  As it stands now though, It doesnt look like I will be running to the stores for this game.

I don't have time to read through all this thread so I will probably repeat stuff....

but wow, I am absolutely amazed by this game. This is exactly what I dreamed Sim City 5 would look like. From having writing in the city actually be in english...to being able to see what my city looks like from a persons standpoint.

I was so dissapointed when the next sim city game I have been waiting for for years turned out to be this SCS crap. I was worried that I would need to wait years for sim city 6 to get what I actually wanted. Then looking at the SCS wiki article I read the sim city community may switch to cities unlimited and instantly feel for this game.

I love that the developers are coming to the sim sites asking for our imput. I also hope that the sim city modding community focuses on cities unlimited, since that is the reason I loved sim city 4 so much.

I don't know if this has been answered yet but will there be a cities unlimited forum set up soon. I hate that there is not an official one (atleast that I can find) yet.

Anyway the two things that would make this my dream city builder would be

1) easily moddable with large modding community.

2) Region maps like sim city 4, but better. The thing that I didn't like about the sim city 4 version was that it was very difficult to match up terrain with the other regions....I wish we could have landscaped on a region scale. I also hope this game has different terrains, like desert, temperate, tropical, tundra.

EDIT: Also, good job monte cristo on using product placement in your game (coca cola). In any other game it wouldn't work, but in a city building game it couldn't make more sense. I know in that one interview they said they are bringing in big money for this game and I imagine this is how they are doing it. I can see nothing but good things from this, for them it brings in more resources for them to work with, for us it allows for more realism.

A lot of the models that you guys added for sim city 4 were actual corporations (blockbuster, target, embassy suits....) See no reason why Monte Cristo can't save you modder's time and at the same time make money by putting these places in their game 2.gif

Hi all,

Nevets, you probably didn't read my blog nor the Q&A I answered to Dirk a few weeks ago but to answer your first question, I'm currently working on the official Cities Unlimited website which should be online in october of this year. You will get more information about CU at that time. Until then, I can't say much more about it than it has already been said.

Not that I don't want to but this game is still in early development and we are still working on the core features (especially game play). We only want to talk about something that we can:

A. be sure we will deliver when the game is released,

B. will have first been discussed, tested and over tested ;-)

C. and when we have something to show you, the city builder fans.

I really like the idea of being able to talk to you all guys about CU and I think being in touch with you that soon in its development is a great opportunity to make a good game.

I'll get back to you as soon as the website is live. ;-)

Thanks for the reply!

Also it is great that the game is still early in developement (mainly because it gives me lots of time to get a computer together that can play this game like it is meant to be played), because it gives you plenty of time to adjust to what the market wants. Most developers don't seem to care what the community thinks untill the game is a few months from release (Tilted Mill) when the game is being polished up and pretty much finished.

Can't wait to hear more in October!....wait no I will be preoccupied with the huge amount of games coming out during the holidays.....ok sometime after the new year I will closely be following this game.

EDIT: Also good job guys in turning the SCS wiki page into one about Cities unlimited, classic 4.gif

I think most people here like the idea of being able to communicate feedback and ideas to you, too.

To Simtropolis

How are you gonna solve this? Will you open up a Cities Unlimited section soon?

Let me voice my two proposals. Either implement Cities Unlimited on this website with a subsection in the forums (know its called simtropolis but anyhow). Or... start a sisterwebsite with the same concept but for cities unlimited (www.citiesunlimitedsociety.com or www.citiesunlimitedplace.com, or to work for future installations in the series just plain simply www.citiessociety.com/www.citiesplace.com)). So that we can enjoy, develope and encourage both contemporary citysimulator series. Thanks, a simtropolisuser.

Though I don't have the game the one thing that really caught my attention with City Life is the capability & flexibilty of its highway/road system (being able to build various kinds of interchanges from the tools). It's this kind of capability & flexibility that a lot of SC4 players have been screaming out for. I would certainly considering getting CU if it continues down this path.

There's a lot about SC4 that many players find appealing; being able to include some of those aspects, without appearing to pinch someone elses idea obviously, would be great as I'm sure others like myself would like a single CitySimulation game that contains the bulk of what we would like in such a game. I look forward to seeing what CU has in store.

Tritto.  (Is that even a word?) From what we have seen so far from these two new games, CU beats SCS hands down in my opinion.  We have only seen 2 screenshots of CU, and the two of them have beaten the hundreds of screens of SCS posted here on Simtropolis.
