Just out of curiosity, Yoman3, would it really be impossible to convert this into a NAM bridge? I'd love to see it as one also, since it really is a beautiful construction. Is it just a scaling problem? Or does it represent a ton of work on your part? Regardless, it's a beautiful bit of modeling.

Wow, how nice to see the Hohenzollernbrücke in SimCity! 4.gif I happen to live ~500 mtrs away from it, by the way. The basic shape is nice, and I also like the pedestrian pathways.

As for the shape, it's probably not possible to recreate the actual, three-part configuration in SimCity because it would interfere with the grid, but at least the beams could be considerably thicker. This picture gives a good impression (you'll have to scroll down more or less to the middle of the page).

If you take a closer look, you can also see that all three portals look slightly different. That's because the arches to the left (in the linked reference pic) are oldest and those to the right are youngest. When you cross that bridge, you can see how the oldest part is mostly bolted together whereas the youngest addition to the bridge is almost entirely welded.

Here's another interesting picture: It shows some of the locks many people fixed at the bridge. It has apparently become some sort of marriage ritual.

If you need reference pics, I could take some for you.

benvoliothefirst - technically it would be possible, but it would require a complete and utter remodeling of the bridge. Would be simpler just to make it from scratch again to with NAM bridge techniques. As I would not have a use for such a creation and I do not want to invest the 12 or so hours that went into the first one again, for now yes, it is out of the question.

Twrecks - You must live right in central Cologne then, from the pictures I've looked at looks like a beautiful city. I'm sure I'm sure I'll pass through eventually 9.gif

As for the 4 track instead of 6 track configuration, you are correct. My original plan was to make the 6 track 3 tile wide bridge. However this would've looked bloated with the current dimensions as you said. I figured four tracks would be alright. From my understanding of the bridge's history a third span with two extra tracks was built in the 80ties, and that my configuration is how it was for awhile anyway 3.gif I also noticed when researching the bridge that on one of the spans, there is a gravel bed under the tracks, where as on the other two, the tracks are right on the deck. I originally BATed some 3d tracks complete with the little locks that hold them to the deck. This made the poly count jump from 100 k to 1.2 million though, and looked crappy, so I just went with textures 3.gif. I took a few liberties with the bridge design also, but overall tried to stay pretty close to the original.

One thing where I differed though was the ends of the bridge. I'm in no mood to figure out how to BAT it and LOD it (especially the LOD part since they along with splines are my mortal enemy 3.gif) so that it conforms to a cliff. That would not work anyway in the place in my city where I plan for it to be located, so I BATed this appraoch that will go on either side.

Here is also the larger versions of the two pictures from the previous page.

Thanks for the offer for the reference pictures. I think I'm done with it for now, but if I ever feel the need to revisit the bridge I'll take you up on it for sure2.gif

I agree to the point with MG,

The way the garage entrance realized here doesn't do much for the buildings.

I like how you have "cut" the corner to open sort of plaza in the street corner. The space would be much better occupied by some sort of art installation or something along those lines. Besides the inappropriately prominent position the size of the garage ramp is enormous.

I love the new way you started to make roof junk (past Mandarin Hotel). However on this not too tall building I think you should rise the parapet wall somewhat to hide some of it from Street view. "architects" went quite a bit to clad the facade in green stone (or what ever it may be) to let the roof tech hose to pop like that in the corner. also those massive pipes, although adding a lot of interest to the roof would be easily seen from street level on top such not to tall building. They are also probably a tinny bit too massive for the structure of this size.

As for the "shadow" bug. It's easily fixable.

Make the garage ramp a separate object and made it invisible to the camera (in it's properties) but visible for reflections/refractions. Place a box/plain of totally transparent material over it that would cover ONLY over the ground parts and voil
