I will upload this with the respect I get, but questionable and insulting comments I will not; Why would I fake this? Why would I show this If I weren't going to upload? Don't awnser these questions, just carry on with what you were doing 4.gif4hcr3l.jpg

I was stuck without a BAT in 3ds max 2009 since I started these a few weeks ago. But after simfox released v2.5 of bat for max, I was finally able to get some renders!

My first model

And my second

shttwokalimgradr01frontdv5.jpg

Now I know I need to re do the textures big time (except these ARE supposed to look worn out), plus I might remodel the roof on number 2 so it doesn't look like it is connected to the side of the building. Tell me what you think at my BAT thread.

there is something wrong with your setup, as there are NO shadows. you should check you lighting rig and general settings...

textures look fine... may be some smaller blur value in Mat editor would be an improvement though...

on the modeling side there are some proportions issues, not a major ones but still... For instance AC units should be smaller... Also in countries where most of buildings like that would be found you wouldn normally see more modern split systems in stead of such window box models, but that's just a factual note.... Also some doors seem to be a bit out of proportions to the rest of openings...

You roof looks a bit off the building cause it doesn't' cast any shadows. I believe if you fix shadow issue it would be very fine.

All in all remarkable first (well second really= model! I hope you'll bring it to game!

SimFox, you know your right... I didn't even notice the missing shadows until you brought them up...Oh god these look really wired to me now. I still have a good bit to learn before I am done with these, but they will find their way into SC4 eventually.

By the way kellydale, looking awesome. Are you going to finish those tiny buildings or are those just for perspective, you know we could always use some more mid rises! Towers are looking good and reflective =P

Hey Glenni, looks like your texturing skills have improved enormously... that's looking like a very intersting building! I like it a lot so far.

Thanks T wrecks 9.gif

Anyway, i think the model is pretty much done. It's a little clean coming from me, i know. but that's just how it is. it's supposed to look fairly new. XD

Neat! Is it a 2x2? The size is hard to guess... I dunno, the door on that rooftop access looks kinda big, but if the building is smaller than I thought (at first I thought it would be at least 3x3) it might just be perfectly ok.

This one is meant to occupy the entire lot surface, right? Otherwise those bollards around the building might cause problems when lotting (especially when they are an integral part of the building model), but if the ground is BATted as well and covers the entire lot, there shouldn't be any problem.

Now what I'd really like to see is what the two back walls look like... 2.gif

here's a quck pic of my current project, the Generation 08 Tower. Textures, windows and other fine details are yet to be added. The tower stands at 607m and is one two of my new super towers being created.

and here is the other super tower The Thornhill Rise Tower standing at 401m

Come see what's cooking in my BAT Workshop

I think it's actually a 1x1.  18.gif

nycc06:  Good luck on your towers.  It looks like you already have problems with the lighting rig though (the building is bigger than the rig itself, so the top part of the building isn't casting any shadows).

Well, seeing as this is infact a diagonal corner building, yes it does cover the whole lot, and more than that aswell, as for the service door being a bit wide, good point, but think of the situation here, in order to move some equipment arround you'd need a fairly wide door. The exact "lot" dimension is hard to explain, but i'd say it's about 1,5x1,5

I just haven't gotten around to rotate it 45 deegrees yet, don't worry though, i know what i am doing when making these diagonals. 2.gif

And as requested, the backside...

(This is an old pic, but it's the only one i got)

bygningting.jpg

Yes, it is a bit unusual, but i wanted to get a bit out of the box with this one, make the windows a bit unusual, and partly useful even when the backside faces the street.

Whoa... that's a pretty wild styling!

Out of the box, huh? Looks pretty much like a box to me, haha. 3.gif j/k - keep it up, man!

@nycc06: Simply tall isn't tall enough, eh? 2.gif Well, I'm absolutely not into supertalls, but bearing in mind your recent releases, these ought to look great when they're finished. 4.gif The shapes are quite interesting, that's for sure.

Wow Glenni, if architect Shin Takamatsu were somehow working perhaps in Scandinavia, I can imagine him producing something like that.

nycc06:  your Thornhill Rise Tower could have much in common with the Xiamen Posts and Telecommunications Building designed by SOM for the Chinese city of Xiamen.  Hopefully, the reference may add to the inspiration, but finding some images may be tricky--SOM used to have a webpage for this project, but I don't know what happened to it.

Here is some progress on my project closest to completion:

Broadway Mansion night variation trial number 18274b

Broadway Mansions (Shanghai Dasha) at night.

Just a rough cut-and-paste of the night render to compare results, as I am still in discovery for a TruNite nighttime rig setup along with the right light and self-illuminated texture settings (tinting 128/128/191 doesn't seem to quite do it).  Still too much green rather than purplish blue, something ugly happened this time on the third floor windows, the balconies went pitch black, etc.  Any other pointers?

The stepback lights on the upper tiers are maybe too red, no doubt because I am being influenced by real world night photographs whose light and exposure settings are a bit off.  A hint of more golden perhaps?  The back wings are not finished in their lighting yet, however, this building is starting to look like a glowing volcano!  I can't wait to one day see the similarly stepped Penobscot finished.

I am grooving on the great big glowing Chinese characters (they say "bai er" -- literally "congratulate ear" but the sound equivalent for "Bayer").  Too bad that pharmaceutical company sign has now been dismantled.  Hopefully, my circular sign is not as egg-shaped this time, as it is only vertically scale increased here 125% rather than the previous 133%.
