I've started working on the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground).  One of the world's greatest stadiums.  4.gif

People!!! Store your files OFF the SITE! This will save Simtropolis bandwidth. There are PLENTY of sites offering such service. www.imageshack.us is one of them

About the stadium. It is very important to get the basic shape and volumes right before going to the stage when you add all the details and elements to it. I might be mistaken but to my eye your model of the MCG stadium appears to be perfectly circular although it shouldn't be. You can use Google Earth to get the idea of it and also to do VERY accurate size of just about any structure! Stadium in question is, for instance, an ellipse of 275to250m in size That is a size of just the stadiums' "bowl"

Not to start an arguement, but why provide it if they don't want us to use it?

It's close to a circle.  At 170 x 150 it looks like it is a circle.  BTW, it's not in the 200's for the bowl: http://www.mcg.org.au/default.asp?pg=themcgdisplay&articleid=70

Also, that outer ring is temporary, just so I get the placement of the gates and towers right.  4.gif

Done.  Easy.  You just needed to ask nice.  4.gif

And here's an update showing how I'm using that grey outer ring for placement (ring hidden):

I decided to show what I was working on at the end of summer, even though I might not be able to finish it as I have not gotten very far (but I won't be taking a studio course next semester, so maybe I'll have more time).

This detail is actually fairly small relative to the rest of the building (and one detail out of many), so if I decide to put the finished structure into Simcity, I will probably just use a lower poly/optimised version of the above.

This project is mostly to experiment with different modeling techniques, and I am confident that I will continue with this because there is so much structural variety (and I love art nouveau).

which is based of this:

P.S. It is 40 years today since Che Guevara was killed. It is sad to think how the US seeks to interfere in the development of South America, even today it undermines democratically elected Socialist Governments in South America.

Well duh... the U.S. still believes the Cold War is taking place. McCarthy is alive and well in the minds of some here. Our country's biggest flaw is it's belief that everyone should be the same as we are (except when it comes to military strength, nuclear power, burning of fossil fuels, distribution of fossil fuels). Sort of hypocritical that we claim to be the biggest proponent of "celebrating diversity" yet we want to force everyone to be just like us.

On topic- the building is fantastic.

Actually Ill Tonkso, I like that building a lot.

My advice for it would be to increase the contrast within the textures, and to increase the contrast between the textures.  I'd also do something more or different with the back.

Also everyone, let's not get into politics here.  1.gif

I agree about the contrast. Although the back is how it is in real life im afraid. I couldnt see much else to it on local live but i may use some creative licence to add something on the ground level. There probably was another entrance or fire exit i couldnt see.

Tonks:

It isn't really about just colors, but materials. Black in 3ds max means absence - so if you put pure black into defuse slot that means material reflects/defuses NO light at all - so virtually you have a black hole - this is just plain wrong...

You have to set your material more creatively, or paint bitmap textures. BTW have you decided on MAX you gonna get??

I'm back from my extended hiatus (and hd merge...) and picking up work on my speedway, Larrimack Motorsports Park. There's still a lot of detail that needs to go into it.

>

Restarting GMAX reset some options. When I go to select objects, even if I don't highlight the entire thing with the cursor, it will select it. Say, a string of supporting poles under the bleachers. If I go to select them, I get the entire stand, just because the edge of them are included in the highlight. How can I turn that off?

Go for it.

Also, to everyone, this is NOT an F1 or Nextel sized track, this will be much smaller in infrastructure.

Scba, this button should be your culprit:

Just a simple toggle that'll turn that off.

Great work on that road course by the way2.gif.

This thread is an inspiration. I enjoy historic works more and this one is something I've been dreaming for a long time. This is just an hour of work trying to get back into the BAT after a year. It's going to be a restored 18th century fortress. The idea is to make it a ploppable landmark that counts as a museum. I'm using Fort Bourtange, Fort Carolyn, Fort Independence, and Fort McHenry as inspiration for my own fictional work. The ditches are going to be a challenge for me, but I'm up to it! This is one project, though, that I think is missing from the STEX.
