I love it! Will you TE the road or is it just eye candy? I think the road works are excellent as well but are you going to do another version without a road?

Nice MNtoes! We need more UK buildings!

I thought I might try and get back into BATing again. I've been playing bioshock lately, which is an incredible game. All of it is Art Deco based so that has inspired me. I also managed to catch the film 'Brazil' Last night with Michael Paling and directed by Terry Gillingham (Familiar names to Monty Python fans) and that was a big help. This is what I've come up with in about 3 hours. It's supposed to be a modern Interpretation of an Art Deco. The modern part dosen't show particularly well yet.

What do you guys think?

I've been having fun with the lattice tool you may notice 9.gif

Yeah, i plan to make a basic shape for each of the top bits. Then merge each object into a seperate scene so i have a good base thats to scale with the rest of the model. Then i can model the details areound these base objects and merge back into the main scene 4.gif

heh i saw that film too, in a travel lodge in cardiff, i was really inspired by the road checkpoint, five story building with those giant barriers hanging down, also by the entrance to the main building, i may have to see what i can come up with too.

OMG, OMG!!!

Royal Liver? the one in Liverpool!?

One of my Favorites - first skyscraper in Europe!! Beautiful!!!

Toxic:

That look very stylish!

But be careful with Lattice modifier - it tend to create tons of unnecessary and very sloppy geometry with a lot of coplanar surfaces at times. This may lead to some problems with render

Yes thats the one, its a very difficult undertaking though. Causing me a lot of stress on the upper levels (not shown in that image)

Thanks for the advice 1.gif

I was wondering if you could help me, I'm trying to model a statue for the building:

How would you go about doing that?

Well you would go by polygon modeling it - start with box and then extrude, subdivide and extrude. Alternatively may be you could start with a biped to give you more realistic scale and proportions. To, say, delimit where arms can and can not go...

Do you have a side view for it? I may try to have a go at it... To be honest I never did that sort of things but I do have basic idea how and that would be good thing to try, I really like the design...

Tonks.. if I may... I think the windows are a bit to wide... I meant at least those sort of pillars like elements flaking the structure. There is golden section principal at work there - third, third, third... or something very close to it I believe.

Also vertically the space between windows is equal to the lower part of window. So in other words there is a LOT more concrete there then in your model and LOT less glass, which is a very good news for you, as it would make glazing much easier and will give you more options to do it credibly.

Pleeeeease, pleas, please, start covering it regularly in your thread! Or just start a dedicated thread, it is such and important structure and such a n interesting project!!

Thankyou for the advice! I would be extremely greatful if you could do it. If you can't then that dosen't matter. I think I may just be able to get a side view... I'm glad you like the design, It is based on a statue from the game bioshock, and I made it in illustrator. I will attempt to get a pic.

Tonks that looks awesome!

Here you go mr fox:

Toxic, having just installed Bioshock on my system today - as well as being an avid Brazil fan for a couple of decades - I must say that building captures the spirits of both one heck of a lot.

Great job.

Thanks ngeeves & toxicpiano. I hadn't planned to TE the lot it's just for eye candy and to make the building fit onto a 3 x 2 lot. Also it is the means for vehicles to access the service bay at the back of the building. I might release a lot without the road sometime.  I'll post an update later.

Toxicpiano is it worth buying Bioshock? Great building you did all that in 3 hours?

Frankie_Grove that looks awsome, love the detail.

Probably about 3 or 4 times the size of an average male by the looks of it.

Yes! Bioshock is awesome! It's quite short (about 6+ hours) but it's an excellent game.

jayo:

Nah It was just a name I gave it 4.gif
