Incrementally. It was ages ago that I decided to make up a top posters list. 5000+ gave me about 30 people (there are now 37 people past that mark), so it seemed like a convenient cutoff point. In fact, the file with all this is still called "5kpostclub.rtf". But then, every so often I would have to update the list manually - and in order to prevent someone from slipping into the club unnoticed, I also started making note of and keeping track of people I saw with between 4000 and 5000 posts.

Then, one day, when I was bored and browsing through some old threads, I made note of a bunch of inactive members in the 2000-4000 range. This really helped in terms of generating a list for 3000+, as then I just needed to find the active members to add.... except that I missed a few at first, of course, as was bound to happen.

With the list now starting at 3000, I started making notes of anyone and everyone I saw in the 2000-3000 range. So far, this ammounts to the 113 names you see above.

One other tidbit: the information I've posted is not all I've made note of. Here's an uncut snippit of the file:

Obviously the first three columns are rank, username, and post count. But what's the rest of that stuff? 

And I haven't shown you the footnotes.

There is an -x- if the member is inactive.

The fifth one could be highest rank achieved.

The sixth one shows the joining date, and the seventh which member it was, with a 1 being the first member to join the site (Dirk) and a 364740 to the newest registry.

Sort of. The userIDs don't entirely work like that. Dirk's userID is 1233. The newest members have userIDs well over 400000. Higher IDs do correspond to newer members, but numbers are skipped for various reasons (unactivated and deleted accounts, for instance).

It's subjective and not entirely consistent. Mostly just when I realize "hey, this guy's post count hasn't changed the past few times I've updated the list."

One update not changing is what nets you the small -x-, though. That's concretely defined.

I just noticed Larks has 2,133 posts. Last time I checked it was 2,000. Wow larks you are moving fast! (You'll slow down eventually, I did. I stopped at around 2,900 posts then left for 9 months)

In my experience, it's inevitable. Anyone who becomes highly active cannot sustain it forever. They all eventually slow down or stop outright, the question is when and by how much. Even Jackie is posting at a considerably slower rate than she used to.

I second Bararossa: There are always exception to the rule. That is a rule of thumb, one that is it's own exception. I try to keep posting at the same rate, though there will be times when I post more, and times when I post less. These periods tend to coincide with my holiday schedule, and so does the amount of time I play SC4. There currently is a Fin for example, who is eagerly awaiting me to post some beta-testing results.

This is my 1402th post, I didn't notice making the 1399th one, or I'd make sure this one would be the 1400th one. But this will do.

I made my 1300th post on 3 January, and thus I made 100 posts in 10 days, 1 day slower than the previous hundred, but still decent, especially when you take into account that I was ill on one of those nine days, and was to busy to visit ST on another.
