This 666th post contains a SECRET SATANIC MESSAGE when read backwards! 11.gif

Yes, I have done it. I have reached 666 posts, widely regarded as the devil's post. noitalumis a ylno si laer si kniht uoy tahw dna ,laer si 4 ytiCmiS. Hopefully posting it here in The Milestone Thread will contain any elements of the underworld that may seek to rise up and take over Simtropolis. If it doesn't work, I'm sorry, I'm so very very sorry.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

And this post is the sum of 4 consecutive prime numbers (167 + 173 + 179 + 181), a Harshad number in base 10 (divisible by the sum of its digits), and 2BC in hexadecimal.

That's 700!

Since you brought it up, 700 is the following kind of numbers:

Abundant number

Composite number

Happy number

And of course the ones you mentioned.

My last milestone (400) is:

Abundant number

Composite number

Quadratic number

This post will make my post count 402, which is:

Sphenic number

Abundant number

Composite number

No, I did not calculate that myself, I just used a little program, which apparently isn't complete, as it doesn't include your Harshad numbers.

Korot

This is post number eight hundred for me. Yessir, my eight hundredth post. Yep. Nothing else interesting to report. Just saying 800 posts. Yeah.

I've recently made my 500th post! 100 posts in 17days, that makes 5.88posts/day, which is about 8 times larger then my posts/day average. Perhaps ST should use recent averages? (Recent being one month or about 4 weeks)

It also means that I'm halfway on my quest to 1,000 posts, I'm getting there.

Korot

I don't think the forum software has that capability. Post count and join date (and thus, by subtracting from the current date, length of membership) are continually stored statistics. Dividing one by the other to get an overall PPD is easy.

On the other hand, posts within the last X days is not something the forum keeps track of. So while the overall rate (Δp/Δt) is easily calculated, local rates (δp/δt) are not, at least by computer - but you can always do it yourself if you keep track of the data.

Of course, any instantaneous rate (dp/dt) would either be 0 or undefined. Now who can explain why? 9.gif

Because either dt=0, or there are no post made in this very short timespan, and 0/x=0. Or both, and 0/0 can be any random number (0*x=0).

I could, but I really don't feel like doing the work of boning up on my diffie q's to make sure I give a complete and correct answer.  Besides, it's hard to concentrate on math with David Byrne screaming in my ear about burning down the house. 3.gif

Okay, looks like I'm going to have to explain it:

Post count with respect to time is not a continuous function. It is sort of a stair-step function. Your post count does not change at all until you make a post. Then, at that instant, it suddenly jumps up by one.

When it's not changing, the derivative is 0. At the instant you make a post, the derivitave is going to be undefined because you have a discontinuity.

And by the way, Korot, 0/0 is not any random number. It's undefined. You can't divide by zero, as your calculator and the internet will readily inform you.49.gif

Same goes for ∞/∞, 00, 0∞, and 1.

^That's the conclusion I reached today while driving home from work. I was looking for a more subtle answer, but I should have expected it to be a trick question.

Trying to take the derivative of a function that can't be derived?  Maybe not a trick question, but tricky. 3.gif

And I hate to admit it, but I think I've gotten a bit soft since Sporeum closed 15.gif
