Hello all. First off, I would like to say thank you to the Simtropolis community for all the amazing work everyone does.

Second, seeing as this is my first CJ, please be nice. I will happily take any constructive critism, and do so with a smile, but please, be nice...

Third, a description. This city s based loosely (in fact, very loosely) off my home metro of Kansas City. I'm going to be using what I see around me.... so I guess it will be designed with the midwest in mind.

Last, but not least, an overview:

Pine Grove, established in 1897, by Reginald Hearld, started out as a farming community and remained such until the great rebirth of the country in the 1930s. After several decades of growth and prosperity, the city, now nearly sixty, began to die and decay from poor planning and a devistating flood. Over the following years, it had crime, economic depression, and many rolling blackouts.

However, things began to change in the 1990s. Nearly a hundred years old, the city, once seen a central hub to the country, began to rekindle the interests of many giant corporations as a city to rebase operations at.

Thus began the city's rebirth, and this is it's story...

Welcome to Pine Grove

Shadow_Assassin: Thanks.... it took three tries and two maps before I finally got what I wanted. I'd thank everyone who made the BATs there, but honestly, I think it might take a page just to do that. However, when I get into the nitty-gritty of it all, I do plan on giving credit where credit is due.

Filasimo: Yeah, just happened by accident when taking the picture. But, I've always been partial to fall... I just love all the colors on the trees, and the weather that time of year

jacqulina: Thanks. I love your CJ, Paradise Falls. Your terraforing skills are amazing and work is beautiful. It's amazingness (is that a word?) is simply beyond words.

GMT: I will definately be posting more. Also, I love what you've done with Greater Columbia River. I always find myself having trouble working with rivers, and so envy you on your abilities.

Voulpiotis: Thanks, I thought I'd give a brief despcription of what kind of has happened to the KC Metro area. I definately will update more... its still kind of a work in progress...

hamsterTK: I say spiffy. And thanks! I love Run for your Life! The pictures are spectacular, and I love the story telling.

blade2k5: Thanks! I was kind of going off the same idea of what you did start-wise, but I'm in no way as good as you with Flash. I'm not exactly into futurisic CJs, but I always find myself coming back to yours for more.

To all: I unfotunately have RL things to work on today (namely fihting a Christmas tree to get it upstairs), on top of continuing to build the city, seeing as it's quite a work in progress (why do I have to be an obsessive perfectionist?!)... but I plan on trying to update it tonght after work. Expect somewhat familiar names from the world around you (if you live in KC or the US for that matter).

Thanks for all the comments everyone, and I look forward to everyone elses updates in their threads!

And, to close, the KC metro skyline:

Yup! Good start indeed! Great use of the stream, nice choice of BAT:s and a good layout. It'll be interesting to watch it develop.

I love the waterline. Gives it that big city feel. The color change in the trees really accents the whole thing too. Im intereted to see more of the city.

Well, actually, I don't make the Flash's, my good friend and partner in NHP wouanagaine makes them for me, I just send him the pics and he does his magic. It was also nice to hear you've been dropping by my house checking things out, the doors always opened. I'll definately be coming back to check on your updates.

emilin and Balston123: Thanks! It's called  Brush River, and it's based off of KC's Brush Creek (I know, not very original). I'm going to be talking about it in the next update... which I hope to complete tomorrow.

asturianu: The city I gues will be medium sized, of course, I think that all relates to what you call large. The map is I think 12 small tiles by 12 small tiles.

Cjah: Thanks. I'm really hoping it turns out well.

Schulmanator: Lol... me too. Like I said it's a work in progress, and I'm kind of winging it for a small part. Also, congrats on the Trixie. In fact, congrats to all the Trixie winners I forgot. 48.gif

crushedcar: Thank you. I also plan on trying to implement the Modular Amusement Park Pack.... but I don't want to give away anything yet.

jacqulina: I didn't think so but you're right, it does sound good...

    blade2k5: I still envy the flash's...

And thanks to everyone for the replies!

    Now, to the promised update:

excerpt from the Pine Grove Herald:

Proposed in the mid 90s, the TriTel Telecommunications Corportation, who's new complex was finished in the south part of the metro area, broke ground in the center of downtown, replacing the long despised Main Street red light district, long know as a blight to the city for decades. After 5 years of work, 5 construction companies working in conjuction, and two major redesigns on the look of the complex, the TriTel Stadium was created.

To become the new home to the Pine Grove Settlers, PG's premier football team, as well as temporary home to the city's soccer team, the Flatfoots, this multi-million dollar sports center opened its gleaming doors just in time for the first Thanksgiving game in 50+ years.

Housed across the street is the Bantell Hall, PG's downtown convention center. Due to open its doors again early next year, the hall is currently being renovated with funds donated by Gantin, the largest GPS company in the world.

Close neighbors to the Gregnam-Jenkings Art Museum and the Downtown City Zoo, this amazing project will open new horizons to the region by providing new jobs and an amazing new cultural icon.

    pg2zv0.jpg

... In real life, KC really does have a plan like this in completion. Sprint, whose home is in KC, has already started construction on the new Sprint Center, seen here...

    Coming up next:

Completion of the Bantell Hall renovation

Completion of the Airport Revitalization Project

    The Midtown arson spree

(so in other words, a "major" post coming soon)

I'm liking how PG is shaping up, the stadium and convention hall look real nice across the street from one another. Very nice stadium by the way, it was that very BAT that led me to getting my nite-light issue resolved. The Sprint Arena you linked to looks really cool. And the KC skyline pic was a nice touch...first time I've seen KC's skyline under the lights. Great work so far, this is shapping up to be a pretty good cj.

Well, this looks like it's going to be great! I love the feel of the pictures, with the stadium, zoo, etc. Just one question: What is the building with the columns behind Madison Square Garden? I also looked at the Sprint Arena picture, that looks like it will be a cool arena. Is KC's arena still Kemper Arena?

    owenluby: Thanks!

blade2k5: Yeah... actually, with the city's one percent for art fund, they have all sorts of neat things in the metro, like the Broadway bridge entrances, that are a lightshow that changes colors every season. (Note to self: must find a picture to post)

    thundercrack83: That would be the
John F Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts by Yoder7652. I found it here, but keep in mind you have to be registered to download there, just like Simtropolis. And yes, Kemper (soccer/arena football) is still one of KC's arenas, along with Arrowhead (football), Kauffman (baseball), and Barney Allis Plaza (tennis). With the new Sprint arena, we're "supposed" to be getting a basketball and hockey team, and with the new arena in place, a 24/7 entertainment district.

White_Stripes_200: That was exactly what I was trying to go for! Thanks for noticing.
