Impressive update and congrads on getting to update 25! I think urland by nardo is a bit older than you but still this is a three year long cj or maybe GTR by haljacky is longer. either way Nyhaven is doing great and viewership is growing which is good!

where can i get that plain dirt? I have been looking for something like that......

^^ I've thought many times what a pity it is that SC4 can't repurpose buildings. Maybe someone with LE or BAT skills could go through and make some industrial loft lots that one could replace those factories with...

Nice new district. I wish we had gotten a close-up of the new PA center, but you win some, you lose some.

Well done and I think a very good way of showing redevelopment. Great work on the details working so well together as well. Always a pleasure to drop in on Nyhaven.

TekindusT: Thank you! It is unfortunate, but at least we can pretend to convert old factories by making residential lots out of them. Some BATters (like Jasoncw over at SC4 Devotion) have already done this with some of their factories.

Raysfan16: Thanks! While there may be plenty of land all around Nyhaven, people often want to live as close to their jobs as possible, so providing lots of new housing near downtown seemed like a good idea. As for that factory, it's part of the Modern Warehouses set by SimGoober, available on the STEX. Happy downloading, my friend!

GreekMan: Thank you! Your comparison of Nyhaven with such CJ greats as Urland and the GTR is truly flattering. Despite my year-and-a-half break from updating, I'm glad to have made it this far, and I certainly couldn't have done it without the support of such loyal readers as you. So congratulate yourself for helping me achieve what I have achieved! BTW, that dirt lot is part of the SFBT Construction Set, also on the STEX.

TmiguelT: Thanks! Although I didn't show them, there are a couple of commercial midrises off to the side of image 12.

Equilibria: Welcome to Nyhaven, and thanks for commenting! You're right; I should have shown a better view of the performing arts center. Oh well - that's just something more to post between updates!

Schulmanator: Thank you! I greatly appreciate such kind words coming from a great CJer like you.

Hawkeye9: Thanks! I'm glad you like the towers; I just love the many HK residential towers that bixel and the other HKABT members have made, and I'm glad you think they look good in the new development.

Well, this week has been pretty busy. If you've been following me on Twitter, you already know that I've started BATting (the results of which will eventually be shown here) and I just bought a new computer. Aside from that, the Simlympics are underway, and Lower Columbia's athletes have been winning medals left and right. If you haven't already done so, I encourage you to check out all the action over at the SimSports Forums. Meanwhile, though, I'm still plugging away in Nyhaven and the LE. Here are a couple more of my custom re-lots:

    special6.jpg

My AIN allies have already seen this image, but I thought I'd let everyone else check it out. This is the Royal Library and the Mausoleum of the Kings in Kendall. I like how these two buildings look together, and I wanted to give them a proper setting. So, I relotted the mausoleum (really the Christiansborg Castle Church) to make a lot the same width as the library, and I also made a plaza for the front of the library.

Don't forget to check back next week for the extra-special 25th update! Until then...

Very interesting CJ! So many nice lots, one can see that you've spent quit a lot of time in LE 2.gif

I like very much how you present your city - so much information! Just like on the new City Hall in the previous page, that one was a great update!

Royal Library looks great as well! Makes a very nice and majestic ensemble together with the Mausoleum! Great lot-editing work! 19.gif

Keep up the great work! This was my first visit to this CJ, but certainly not the last one!

Equilibria: Thank you! It's never too late to learn the LE, and it's not as hard as it looks. Whether you follow the tutorials in the ST Omnibus or not, with a little practice, I'm sure you'll be making even more beautiful lots than mine in no time!

This may not be related to the above, but might I ask what that building in your signature is? It reminds me of the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Raysfan16: Thank you very much, my friend! What kind words! I'm touched.

Simbourgeois: Welcome to Nyhaven, and thanks for commenting! I try to balance the amount of information and pictures in my updates, and I'm glad you approve of that balance. Thank you also for your compliments!

jacqulina: Thank you, Jacky! It's always a pleasure to read one of your replies here. You're welcome in Nyhaven anytime!

kingdiz_55: Thanks! I host all my images at my own website, which is itself hosted by Globat. It's pretty cheap to maintain my account - only $8/month - and that includes my own domain name, too. Hope that answers your question!

GreekMan: Thank you so much! I tried searching through the Wayback Machine's archives for ST circa August 2003 (when I started Alkirk), but I couldn't find it. Of course, I didn't search completely, so there is a chance that you could come across it. Good luck, my friend!

Mayorm: Thanks! The library is praiodan's Slottet Palace Library and is available on the SC4D LEX here.

Not only is today's update special because it's the 25th one. In addition, Nyhaven's nation of Lower Columbia just recently co-founded a new union called the League of Nations, along with Kumba's Isporos, dizflip's Jiesan and Driftmaster07's) Atrubia. Here's some more information on the League:

If you have an MD and want to be part of a truly democratic union, I encourage you to join us at our forums and submit an application there. See you there!

    upd25banner.jpg

One summer morning in 2395, there came a knock on my office door. "Paul?" my secretary asked.
    "Yes, Charlene?" I replied.
"Mayor Lundgren just told me that he wants you to update the city council on the city's growth since you arrived 25 years ago at their next meeting."
"Thank you, Charlene," I said. "I'll get started on my presentation immediately."
With that, I pulled all the records I could find about new building permits since 2370. The council was most insterested in the growth of the Nyhaven MetroRail system, so I focused on its extensions first. A week later, everything was ready for the meeting.

When it came time for me to speak, I started my slideshow and stepped up to me microphone.

    upd25img1.jpg

"As you know, Nyhaven has been growing non-stop since I was hired by the city 25 years ago. As part of my job, I have made sure that the city's light rail system keeps up with growth in the suburbs, reserving new right-of-way wherever possible. It hasn't always been possible, though. In North Melrose, for example, the presence of Sunset Mountain forced my department to extend the tunnel for the Central Line past Borghlum Parkway, where construction of a new subdivision recently got started.

    upd25img2.jpg

"In other areas, the NMR system shares tracks with conventional rail mainlines. This is especially the case with one branch of the Green Line, which follows the Columbia River Railroad westward along the riverbank. Residents in this neighborhood are fortunate enough to be able to choose between the Green Line's more frequent stops and the mainline's express service to Central Station.

    upd25img3.jpg

"The Gold Line, which was built under my direction just before the Simlympics came to Nyhaven, has also been extended to the northeast, spurring on development around this new elevated station near March Boulevard and Borghlum Parkway.

    upd25img4a.jpg
    upd25img4b.jpg
    upd25img4c.jpg
    upd25img4d.jpg

    "One area where we
were able to secure right-of-way for a ground-level rail extension was due east of downtown, where my department recently extended the main branch of the Eastern Line into a new subdivision in the Wilshire Valley.

    upd25img5.jpg

"Waterfront development has been accelerating lately, and it has been hard to keep up with the new subdivisions to the southeast of downtown. In places like this, I have directed my fellow engineers to expand alternative mass transit options, such as the ferry system.

    upd25img6.jpg

"In contrast to the development in the north, the southwestern side of Puget Island is another area where we have built new trackage in advance of development, including the construction of the Overland Crossing Mall.

    upd25img7.jpg

"Not far away, on the west bank of the river, the complexities of existing transportation networks required us to build an extension of another of my projects, the Puget Line, on elevated tracks. This has the advantage, however, of making local roads and rails safer, since there are no at-grade crossings with the Puget Line.

    upd25img8.jpg

"Of course, there are plenty of new neighborhoods that are not served by any nearby NMR line, such as this one in an area on the west bank of the river known as the Ramparts.

    upd25img9.jpg

"Other new developments have focused on providing sevices in the outer suburbs. This section of big-box stores is just off Route 148, between the Wilshire Valley suburb I showed earlier and the freeway. Unfortunately, these stores were built before the Eastern Line's right-of-way could be extended through the area, so that line will have to be diverted around them when it is extended this far.

    upd25img10.jpg

"In some cases, neighborhoods have been built between line extensions, giving residents of such subdivisions as this one in West Cahuenga Hill extra transit options.

    upd25img11.jpg

"Other new commercial districts have been aimed at fostering a more urban character in the suburbs. Lankershim Village is one such district.

    upd25img12.jpg

"In other cases, new towns have been incorporated at the edge of the metropolitan area - towns like Sleepy Hollow, which is poised to take advantagfe of future development opportunities.

    upd25img13.jpg

"Some new neighborhoods have had other public buildings as their focal point, such as the new Mormon temple on Welsh Island, just off Route 250.

    upd25img14.jpg

"Finally, the outer suburbs aren't the only places where development has occurred recently. The inner subrubs have been getting denser, as more and more people want to live closer to downtown. These new apartment buildinds across the river from downtown are typical of such redevelopments."

At this point, I began taking questions from both the council and the audience. One average citizen asked, "How has downtown changed to accommodate all these new residents?"

    `
    upd25img15b.jpg

"Well, of course downtown has had to grow to provide new jobs to all these citizens," I replied. "Many new skyscrapers have been built since the Simlympics, and a land reclamation project downtown has opened up valuable new real estate for both commercial and residential development.

    upd25img16.jpg

"This growth is even visible at a distance. The downtown skyline has changed dramatically, as anyone can see at night.

    upd25img17.jpg

"Other urban neighborhoods have also seen construction of new office buildings. Midtown has grown considerably in the past few years, both with new skyscrapers and new nightclubs."

This last comment inspired Councilwoman JoAnn Park to ask, "What can you tell us about other new attractions in the metro area, Mr. Franconi?"

    upd25img18.jpg

I answered, "Well, I can tell you about four major new attractions in the city. First is a new golf course serving the growing community of Sawtelle Wood, southeast of Cathlamet.

    upd25img19.jpg

"Not far away, a new zoo has opened its doors. The new Nyhaven Safari Adventure Park is much larger than the old zoo near Central Station and is already a huge hit with local families.

    upd25img20.jpg

"The military has also been expanding their presence in Nyhaven. Fort Sepulveda was recently opened a couple of miles off Route 148, to the north of the city.

    upd25img21.jpg

"Finally, Nyhaven's lack of general aviation facilities has been remedied by the construction of a new airport in Sleepy Hollow. Local private pilots no longer have to drive to Knappa just to go for a pleasant flight above town.

    upd25img22a.jpg
    upd25img22b.jpg

"As a closing thought, all the new suburbs and other developments built since 2370 are highlighted on this satellite photo. It should be no surprise that the metro area's population has grown to almost two million - specifically, to 1,958,575.

    upd25img23.jpg

"The latest map of the NMR system serves as a nice summary of the system's expansion. Free copies are available in the foyer. Thank you."

First and foremost, congrats on your 25th update, and for lasting nearly three years. It's pretty easy to see why after looking at this most recent one. 2.gif One of the things I noticed right off of the bat is how you edit a lot of the pics differently, instead of using the same effects on each one. I really like how you showcased all kinds of areas around Nyhaven, from outer suburbs, the dense downtown, and even the military base. Nice layouts and building variety all around the city, and it's good to see traffic everywhere. 4.gif Great job on the thank-you mosaic to cap off a top-notch update. 9.gif

Wow, what an amazing update! This is a true look back, in the last pic I've seen things I didn't remember. Congratulations for your 25 updates but especially congratulations for this CJ. Plopping skyscrapers in a downtown and making a gridlock is easy, but giving a dimension to the whole city, regarding every detail; and humanising Nyhaven with the newspaper, your speeches or the accidents it's not so easy and can't be done in an only afternoon. I came for the emphasis on engineering aspect and I stayed for the quality of your updates, always something new to offer.

Keep this great job for at least 25 updates more, Head Engineer!

Man i love the last 4 pics. that subway map is amazing but the link is broken but the region view is just AMAZING! Wow it's so damn cool! and that mosaic at the end! great idea.  yeah I can see names from LA like Fort Sepulveda(hehe). I agree with rays: Long Live Nyhaven! Sorry about you not winning your thrid Simlympics...... Maybe when the Simlympics come to Cardiff (see Cardiff bid at the simsports thread/Future bids) you might have a chance..... unless we win. ky72x: Welcome to Nyhaven, and thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you like the various effects I apply to my images; it's something I like to do to keep things looking interesting, though tbh I took the idea from thundercrack83's excellent Commonwealth of Marathon, over at SC4D. One of my goals with this update was to show all of you how Nyhaven has grown since the storyline started 25 years ago, and it's great to hear you say that I've done a good job. Come back soon!

TmiguelT: Thanks! It's good to know that I succeeded at making a real showstopper.

jacqulina: As always, it's a pleasure to read your replies, Jacky! Thank you so much!

TekindusT: Thanks! If you started reading Nyhaven when I picked up the storyline six months ago, there's a good chance you missed the first couple of years' worth of updates, which I encourage you to go back and read. I'm thrilled that you approve of the way I've tried to give Nyhaven a character of its own, as it's something I've worked hard to do.

bluemoose: Thank you, and welcome! I've said it before in response to other replies, but relaism is one of my main goals in building Nyhaven, so it's great to know that I'm doing well. Take care and come back soon, my friend!

Raysfan16: Thanks! Just like any real large city, I've tried to give Nyhaven a fair amount of suburbia, and I'm glad you like it! Thanks also for your well-wishing!

GreekMan: Thank you so much, my friend! Thanks for pointing out the bad link; I've fixed it above, so now you can see the whole subway map. Just barely being edged out by Rafforsia in the Simlympics is no big deal; their athletes did a great job, and there's always the next Simlympiad. I hope Cardiff's eventual bid succeeds, as the city already looks like a great place to visit. Take care!

Aro0w, art128: Thanks! I like to provide overviews like these, just to provide you all with the larger context.

Well, now that 25 updates have passed, you may notice some little changes in how Nyhaven's pics look. They'll still feature the same old Photoshopping, but you might notice some new fonts. I thought this made a nice time to change things up a bit, and I'm rather happy with the new fonts; I think they convey the engineering motif of this CJ rather nicely. Anyway, on with today's pic!

    special7a.jpg

    special7b.jpg

Kendall isn't the only city where I've done some custom lotting, though you probably already knew that, thanks to Update 23. Here are a couple more custom lots, this time in Nyhaven's Ridgeland Park. This park, which is the centerpiece of the parks belt around the inner suburbs, has two large pavilions, which were recently renovated. They now boast an abundance of cheap food options and entertainment venues, including an open-air marketplace and amphitheater in the northern pavilion and a statue gallery and chess park in the southern pavilion. I may lengthen the lots by a couple more cells lengthwise, to incorporate the paths that run along either end, but I don't know at this point.

Personal replies will come on Thursday, along with Update 26. In the meantime, here's an announcement from the Lower Columbian government.

Earlier today, His Majesty King Zachary's office issued the following press release in response to recent bombings in Atrubia, one of Lower Columbia's allies in the League of Nations:

"The people of Lower Columbia are shocked and saddened by the recent attacks on Atrubian soil. Although we shall not provide military support at this time, since it is not currently needed, we extend our hand in offering the Atrubian Empire any financial assistance they may need in rebuilding their Supreme Court building. I have just signed a parliamentary act authorizing up to 250 million coulombs (equivalent to US$482 million) in aid and providing incentives to any Lower Columbian construction firms that take part in the rebuilding. Our prayers and best wishes go out to the Atrubian people."
