Nofunk:

The small apartments you've been showing lately are very interesting.

I've noticed a certain gap (both in the game and in custom content) for the buildings that are between the single family homes and the medium sized apartments...there are lots and lots of rowhouses, but small (detached) apartments are pretty hard to find.

I welcome Logan square apartments on the STEX and on my cities 3.gif!.

And i'm really glad to know that you plan to make other wonderful buildings like this!

Odainsaker:Interesting indeed!

I liike to see how a limited number of elements could be declined into infinite variations 3.gif!

That's something i really enjoy to look at in music and architecture!

I have to say, I'm VERY surprised that the DarkNite version of Logan Arms has been downloaded MORE than the normal version (currently 288 vs 284).  I was expecting the DarkNite version to have about 1/5th as many downloads as the other.

I was intending on doing my future releases with DarkNite versions anyway, but I was thinking it was just going to be for CJers and a niche of gameplayers, and not for half of the people downloading the building.  But it turns out DarkNite is much much more popular than I thought it was!

I was so happy when I saw Logan Arms and Milwaukee on STEX, I downloaded them right away. Great job!

Today, I was going through some old STEX uploads, and I noticed one BAT on picture of your  Main street shops upload. I'm wondering if this is your BAT, and if it is why you haven't uploaded it? Will you ever? IT looks like your BATing style.

If it's not, who's is it, and where can it be found?

I like it sooo much, it's so charming ... 9.gif

This BAT has been made by JBSimio, and I suppose it is part of his "Smalltown USA" series. I'm frankly too lazy to search the STEX now, but if you search for the two highlighted terms, you should find it.

The problem with mixing BSP and JBSImio stuff is that JBSImio uses a setback of 2 metres from the edge of the lot, whereas BSP BATs use a setback of 1m. However, that's nothing our trusty old LE can't fix. 2.gif

Once again my thread has grown quiet. I have a serious tendency to BAT in short bursts followed by LONG pauses. I really appreciate all of you who stick with me! 1.gif

I have quite a few projects ongoing, the most notable of which is probably the Ford Building, although I don't think I've ever shown it here before. (I've been updating my progress on the BSP thread.) At the moment, JasonCW is fine-tuning some of the textures for me, and there should be more news soon.

Aside from that, my current goal is to finish or repurpose many of my stalled projects. Tonight, however, I've decided to try and ease back into BATing with something simple:

    woodwardglass02.jpg

This little business can be found at 12618 Hamilton Avenue in Highland Park, Michigan, and used to be a showroom for the Woodward Glass Company. It will be part of a second offering of Hamilton Avenue commercial, to complement the set of three I released in November of last year. This one is almost finished, and then I'd like to BAT two more businesses to include in a single release. Or I could end up releasing this on its own... who knows?

I hope everyone is doing well, and I should have another update soon!

Yes, it is good that you have come back for BATing.

Hey, tjhis little building could be good for corners where a row of W2W buildings ends. 4.gif A banner or some graffitti on the side wall of the garage/warehouse would make it visually interesting enough to fulfill this purpose. Good to see that you have taken up the BAT again!

They say that you appreciate something even more if you have to wait a long time for it  2.gif!

Personally i'd really like if you could do another cluster of hamilton avenue shops rather than releasing this one all alone....

oh, and speaking about shops can i ask you to do some corner shops just like the white corner shop you did as part of the previous pack?

That one was really helpful (at least for me) in filling those pesky corner LOTs 3.gif!

Oh, i did take a look at Hamilton avenue in bing some time ago...i believe that it was a wonderful street to walk in and do shopping during it's heyday....

Best of luck with your remaining projects of BSP...i'm sure that ford building will come out wonderfully from your labs!

Nothing much more to say, other than i'm always pleased to see a new entry in your thread!

    Sgt Pepper: Thank you!

    Aaron Graham: Thanks!

T Wrecks: Thanks! I took your idea and put a ghost sign on the side, but I'm not sure it looks right. I'll keep at it though.

Francis90b: I probably will create two more and release all three together. And I definitely will make another corner shop! We totally need more of them. Thanks!

    -----

Here's a quick update on the Woodward Glass Co. I've added quite a few more details. I also took T Wrecks's advice and added a ghost sign on the side wall. I'm not sure I like it though -- What do you all think?

    woodwardglass07.jpg

By the way, I'm not sure it looks like it, but this will fit on a 1x2 lot.

... I like the direction it is taking, -perhaps a better advertisement for the wall as it appears to disappear and blend too well -unless you are after that weathered look... I like a corner hardware store complete with a cracker barrel out front and a mom and pop clothing shop... thanks for expanding the Hamilton street set, as such smaller downtown structures are rather too few for a really good variety in sim-cities...

    Wonderful!

I like the advertisement sign in the wall. This one is progressing really well, i almost expected to find a download button next to it, lol.

I really think this one will be a good addition to our commercial strips, since it's pretty different from many of the shops you could find on the STEX.

And i'm glad you will model a corner shop as well!

I think the ad would integrate better if you let more of the brick pattern show on the ad itself. You do not necessarily have to make it less opaque, but you can overlay something instead to make it a little more "part" of the wall. You also may want to take the saturation of the letters down a bit.

Otherwise, lovely. I have my small W2W industrials, you have these shops 3.gif I have to say I need to finish up Fisher Body and make more of these little popcorn BATs.

It's a precious little thing but the tiled (or appearing so) "leak" on the white (asbestos?) roof really jumps at you. as it is so overpoweringly single thing there.

You could also may be use a bit of color in such places ad a bit of earthy tones, not just black. Try actually some lighter colors, like beiges and mix them as color burn - they make quite convincing rust. Just work on a bigger texture with a very small brushes and many, many repetitive strokes to build the stain.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions! I've made some improvements and should be done with the Woodward Glass Co. soon.

Next in line for my second set of Hamilton Avenue shops is a larger building near Glendale Street, which I am currently calling the Avalon Building:

    avalonbuilding02.jpg

I've yet to identify a third building for the Hamilton Avenue Shops 2, but there are plenty of candidates, and I hope to have this entire set wrapped up pretty soon!

In other news, the Ford Building will be released to the STEX tonight!

Yes, another building I can download for my city, if I can ever start making one and stop BATing. Looks great as all ways.

Another quick update of the Avalon Building. I'm still working on textures, and may have a few more elements to add, but this one is nearing completion!

    avalonbldg01.jpg          avalonbldg02.jpg

Now I just need to model one more small commercial buidling and Hamilton Avenue Shops 2 will be ready!

    Hope everyone's doing well!

Perfectly lovely. The difference between the brick on the decorative front facade and the back and side walls is always interesting. Its like having a second utilitarian almost industrial environment behind the inviting storefronts. Its neat to look down back alleys where there are long rows of these old buildings intact, but then I'm a sucker for things like that. 3.gif

We will just have to guess what the third building will be!

Aw look, it's a beautiful day on Main Street USA! Which is really my way of saying: Expect to see a second offering of Hamilton Avenue Shops on the STEX very soon!

But wait! What is the third building? You mustn't surprise us like this, it will surely cause unrest! 3.gif

Really looks grand all together like that, reminds me of Joseph Campau St in Hamtramck. Probably the only intact "main street" that close to Detroit.

Thanks guys! I'm glad you like the Avalon. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

About that third building... uh... um well... I think there's just going to be two in this release. I had planned to make three, but I'm desperately trying to clear my plate so I can get to some new and exciting BATs (and I still have a lot of clearing to do) so I decided that I'm going to release the Avalon Shops and Woodward Glass Co. as the 2nd set of Hamilton Shops. They were both a little more involved than the first three, so I think it's fair.

I hope that's not too disappointing for anyone, but just think: it means I can move on to new and better things!
