Here's another pic where you can see the trapped workers.

capt.xkj10601181155.dubai_skyscraper_fir

There's another pic, showing the worker during his fall.

I don't wanna show this, because of the respect for dead persons.

I don't mean to sound like I am neglecting the human tragedy involved, but what about the building? Will they have to tear it down and restart or is it still structurally sound and only superficially damaged?

Bixel: Oh you're SOOO wrong.. philosophy goes like that : We'll take high-tech paradise at LOWEST COST POSSIBLE!

We'll let often illiterate semi-slaves from east Asia and Indian subcontinent built those towers for us during 12+ hours working days etc, etc...

@skyfire: It depends how strong the structure is damaged. There are no news about that.

Another example: This is the Astana-Tower in Astana, Kazakhstan.

    i4_201674_506_s12255.jpg

He had a heavy fire this summer, six levels at the top are totally destroyed. But they are able to renew the top. I guess, this will be the same with the Fortune Tower.

Funny: The nickname (before the fire broke out) was "lighter". Now "ashtray" 9.gif

That's aweful. How come that wasn't in the news? Hate to say it, but it looks like a huge cigarette. Building inspectors will have to assess whether its structurally sound. But even if it is, would anyone want to live there because of the fire? If its an office tower that's fine, but if it was a condo, I'd be weary.

^ I bet the building inspectors are just as safety oriented as the contractors who are building these things.

Actually that tower in Astana was in news, It was also widely discussed on russian pages of skyscrapercity.com Despite the horrendous looks of it, the fire didn't cause major damage and there has been not fatalities and not even single casualty! Awful smoke you see was caused by insulation right under the glass facade burning. Tower itself being concrete wasn't damaged by low temperature of burning. Tower however will have to be stripped from its facade cladding and insulation changed

On the separate subject - STAFF's photo of Central put here by Bixl - does anyone know of that lighting scheme used on AIG tower?

Yeah, that "cigerette" or "zajigolka" ("lighter" in Russian). I've been there. Architecture in Astana is actually very interesting. It's kind of like Urumqi, where Islamic architecture is actively incorporated into modern ones.

Eeek!  Tells you to always pay attention to where the fire exits are when you go up a large building.

However, I'm really posting because I want to show a couple Asian city images I found, and this seems to be the best spot.  In digging around for BAT source material, I found the Virtual Shanghai project webpage, which tries to capture its history through thousands of archived old photographs.  The page can be found at http://virtualshanghai.ish-lyon.cnrs.fr/index.php

It's like some of the most amazing urban scenes!

    Nanking Road looking east

I know, we all love the modern sleek supertowers, but these perfectly composed images of Nanking Road with its gaudy department stores show so much mix-matched gingerbread in here, it is almost surreal.

    Nanking Road looking west

Just thought I'd share, as I couldn't resist, even if it is imperialist colonialist imported architecture.  Many of the photos, maps, and postcards in the archive have both an exuberance and nostalgic sadness to them, as the automated search returns mix scenes of lofty urbanism and heroic colonial ceremonies with 1930s Japanese aerial bombings and wartime refugees fleeing the Bund.  Hopefully, everyone will find it interesting.

That's incredible. Note the mosiac of building designs from Chinese to European. Its definitely a reflection of the occupation of European forces in Shanghai at the time.

Man, i got to tell u i used to live next to this "ship"...actually the middle one of those 3 building nearby  3.gif

It's actually a shop mall. The reason why they built that becoz actually that huge area was ocean back in the days. And i believe there was a seaport over there, but now, that area already became lands. So, by memorize that, they built a ship-like landmark.

you need to set up the jpg and config in a new folder like

    /MyDocuments/Simcity4/Regions/HongKong

then start Simcity got to regions select HongKong, press ctrl+alt+shift+r and then select the jgp should work fine.

@ jesselong you got some great pics there...does Bellagio have a website with floor plans and layout? A couple more pics of the base and towers and this is doable- just dunno when

That is an incredible pic of IFC2. Its certainly a different view of Central, since EVERY tourist takes pics of IFC2 from Tsim Sha Tsui.
