welcome yingdie, i hope you will like my next 2 shenzhen projects as well. speaking of these 2 sz buildings, it is moving very slowly, because i have got myself involed into another big project. let me just say this one is really a big one and i feel that it need to be done somehow. It is the WFC in Shanghai. I know someone else have bated it before but the project seems to be dead. It is a shame, and I been thinking about batting for a while. I think now it is the time because I feel that I finaly have the skill to finish it. Anyway, the tower model is 80% done and I will post some pics here tonight.

I think it looks nice. maybe a different texture would be better. Too many clouds and building reflections. Looks a bit messy and maybe the texture can be a bit darker

I agree. The texture doesn't fit the perspective. The tenth floor doesn't loom over skyscrapers. 3.gif

If anything, the texture should be lighter, but I think it's perfect as it is. 4.gif

Some distortion filter on the texture might work wonders. It would make the reflection rather vague and undetermined.

Yeah, the texture needs work.. the reflexion is too "busy", ie: too much stuff being reflected.

Looks like it is going along nicely.

Just a question, are you going to do both versions... the one with the square and the one with the circular hole? Because that would be cool... two BATs for the price of one.

thanks guys, i will put some filter to blur the texture, make it looks less "busy". how about the perspective of those buildings in the texture? is it wrong? I seems to have a problem come up with the right perspective.

@Skyfire: no, i would just do one version of it. I am not a big fan of the circle design.

That looks pretty good so far to me. I'm not keen on the huge amount of detail in the reflection, kinda draws away from the main building.

As for the colour, I think it should be lighter. All the pictures I've seen of it seem to be pretty light.

I'm going to start saving a space for this in my City asap. This will surely make the headlines of the Marque Daily newspaper.

    Update on the SWFC...

I exported this as a sigle massive model, the file size is about 19MB, too big for the stex. Anyone have ideas how to reduce the file size? I don't want to break the file into 2 part in zip file and upload twice to STEX again, it causes a lot of confussion.

^ Just ask for permission to upload a 19MB file... ask Voar Tok about it... He's a nice guy. 3.gif They do make exceptions, I'm sure. 4.gif

The BAT is looking good, but the nitelite windows don't look very good. The actual lights look great. It is just the windows that need more work. They are too uniform and bright.

It's looking great. I think that the texture could be slightly lighter, with a clearer almost opaque look than reflections. Also the nightlighting could be more scattered and random. I'd also like to see the one with the circular center. But it's really looking amazing and I can't wait to download it!

    Another masterpiece in the making!

I will have to parrot others in commenting on the nightlight windows shown so far...they do not look right.  It is too sparsely henpecked and deliberately random.  Although it what happens is strongly dependant on the functions inside, for most glass office towers, the nightime windows are not primarily lots of individually scattered private offices, but tiers and tiers of lit office free space and tenant company floors, with occasional private offices.  The office window lights should overwhelmingly be bands, and they often clump around large company divisions or even multiple floors for major tenants.

As an example, here is the Mitsui and Sompo office buildings in Tokyo at night.  Though the Mitsui is a classic Modernist box, its lights gives a great example of the idealized free office space:

    Mitsui and Sompo nightlights

All those brokers and agents working the overseas markets at night!  Note also that as some of the lighted bands reach the corners of the building, they bend around the corner (I never understood those glass tower BATs whose corner offices are lit on one side and dark on the other).  Bending the bands around corners generally also visually reinforces the sense of a floor space, going beyond random light patterns on a separate walls.  It needn't be as much lights as in the image, but it gives the idea.

Or course, hotel functions throw the whole scheme off kilter, and the section of the tower that has the hotel will have small private rooms individually lit, with occassional large lit floors for the public hotel spaces.  The larger Pacific Place towers and Yokohama's Landmark Tower are good examples of these mixed-use and vertically schizoid nightlit buildings.  Around the top skyhole, I would expect some sort of important public spaces and special central galleries with large light bands.  Too bad we don't yet have a finished real building yet to see it in all its daring glory...the planned Freedom Tower seems so plain in comparison.

I gotta say it...the glass reflection of the city is great, but the angle of the reflected city is wrong, as it suggests either the city is cascading or the building is leaning.  If you try testing with a real mirror on a floor, you'll see with your bat's perpendicular orientation that it actually will reflect everything at their normal angles.

But I can't wait till this is released.  We're all going to have to start Shanghai city journals now!

Wow... first, i have to say that i havn't seen this thread and it's amazing. it's the prettiest bottle opener i've ever seen. i LOVE it. i agree on the comments on the window's nightlighting- it seems just too plain for such a stunning model; while the rest of the lighting looks great, the windows could use some work. i like what you've done w/ the texture, making the reflections less noticable.

liebenik- i think that the picture you have is a bit decieving because from the looks of it, it is being exposed directly to the sunlight which makes the glass seem much lighter. i think Dmscorpio has done a good job with the texture, and if you could see the other sides of the building in that photograph, they'd appear darker as well.

The model is wonderful! But I agree with Tonks, the texture should be much, much darker.

The base just look awesome! But I feel something not quite right about the nightwindow.... because of the color and discontinuous pattern perhaps?

Oh WOWIEEE! I always have to ask... Functional Landmark (Ploppable)??? I can't wait! =)

About the texture, I've always thought it was supposed to be lighter, but seeing that pic. above, I would say your pretty close. The reflections are a little wierd though.

you could and should add a bit more detail to the tower itself:

you only have 18 windows on each side of the tower on the first few floors. In reality it is 46 and they are all equal in size. So i suggest you stick with the 46 windows and make your windows narrower.

2nd: I suggest to to nightlighting different. 2 windows above eachother should never light up at the same time. This would mean that there is no floor between them so you should leave one row without nightlighting between every row that does have nightlighting. That would be much more realistic.

I hope you know what i mean, my English can get sloppy at times... 3.gif

BTW, here are pictures of the actual SWFC under construction. It shows some neat detailing:

Blinking light... Sim Goober did a couple buildings with a blinking red light at the top, so you might want to PM him and ask.
