Thanks! I've been consulting Google maps to learn a lot haha. It's really fun to see what works in real life and then combine the elements you like into your own region.

I want to release my region early before the December census, since not a lot of people come to this forum anyway, and I just cant wait till' January ? to publish the December census. Since not a lot of people come here, I can also tell you that the region has went from 700,000 in Nov to 1.5 million!!!!! Portland is booming again! I still don't like the region, since its missing that realistic continuous urban sprawl (like in packersfan's district of wenzel). Anyway, enough talking, here is the picture.

EDIT: If you can tell in the pic, the density has shot up in some places

Well here I am again with a new region view of my region, currently I am developing the suburbs area in the far places of the region, like always I like to develop from outside to inside.

By the way I like your regions everyone! I learn a little every time I come here to see new regions. Great Work everyone! :bunny: :bunny:

Nice region! Are you planning for it to be a big population center (1M+), mid ranged (250k-1M), or small, either way, still a good job!

Thanks, guys! I'm planning for it to be well over 1 million sims regionwide, so I have a lot of work to do. This region I'm building "naturally" out and up over time, and I have a lot of space to go with given the size of the region. Also, here is a closeup of the farms as requested, this one taken in the most developed city.

lyon1-3-13_zps1402fa38.jpg

I've upgraded very few rural streets to roads, and the main arterial connections are extremely full of traffic, up to 80 and 90 percent capacity even with NAM, as can be seen by the degradation of the farmland. I like to fit the farms into changes in the land, as well as the differing moisture level as exploited by the trees, hence the shapes :)

Wow that is just stunning! And try searching farm (?) to look for a mod that stops that degradation from traffic (forgot the name), or you can just get the SPEG (?) which is from Pegasus and to me it is like a farming expansion pack of the game. I think the SPEG also stops the degradation too.....and if I'm wrong on the name SPEG someone help me

Wow I feel like a critic, even though I'm not saying anything bad like a real critic

Thanks again TayMay! And I appreciate the suggestion. I believe you're referring to the SPAM, correct? I have it installed as of about a week ago, but I haven't decided whether to integrate it into this region yet, as I don't know how it will affect the existing infrastructure created without SPAM. I might make a copy and go through the entire region developing to see what effects there are, then either keep the copy with SPAM or go back to the original and not use it. It'll be a tough decision I think >.<

This is New Pannonia, a region I created some time ago but had let it sit idle for a while. I am back to working on it.

Below is a mosaic I made after terraforming for mapping out the region's transportation network. I did not edit out the name window and buttons because I made the mosaic for my own use, namely printing out the image for plotting the cities and transportation network.

Here's the region as it currently looks, although I have added more to New Valencia since I made this picture:

I have been working on this one lately. Its a mess. Started out as my sandbox region, didn't try to make it great, somehow lately though all my interest has been focused in this region and its changed quite a bit from when I first started. Those advisors really do know what they're talking about when they tell you to stop sprawling! (Pictures cut off areas in the NE corridor and S corridor)

wow very laid out! And to me if you plan right, sprawling isn't bad. If its laid out in a suburban form, its not the bad since the density isn't that high, basically it depends on what type of sprawl it is....

Its weird how I had a da-ja-vu of me typing this....

TayMay27,

Certain areas are planned better than others, Traffic is horrible on all the freeways and a couple of the FM roads. The past few weeks I've been adding business parks and shopping centers in areas along major roadways to help create larger scale employment centers to anchor the suburbs. Alot of the suburban areas (Particularly the North and Northwest areas) were not laid out with the best planning but now I'm going through and finding the problem areas and fixing them. Lots of growing pains!

That is whats good, since sims don't have the ability to commute 2 more city tiles, even if both are small tiles and its only a half-hour drive. In real life, I think we all know that a lot of people like short commutes, but will take a 1 hour+ commute just to live somewhere nice. If only someone had a mod for sims to commute farther....

You're right about the traffic, that is why it depends on how the freeways are laid out and how many lanes they have, though sometimes a city can be so big there is nothing you can do about it, such as Los Angeles or the Ontario 401, which has 18 lanes at its widest and still has traffic, and they can expand it more at some parts but it'll still be crowded...

Basically, just have good public transit (bus should be enough and at one point add light rail/ rail), a good freeway system, and let the jobs be spread out, but not too spread out(example: commercial zoning on every single inch on every single avenue).

I'm not sure if this is considered off-topic or just a long reply lol
