Revisiting Prop Pox and Prop Theory
CoastRunner replied to simmaster07's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
Well I'm not really sure what you mean when you say it was "already known," but Simpeg has been down for several years now (see link) and I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. -

Revisiting Prop Pox and Prop Theory

Amazing, kudos to you dude. Prop pox has plagued us for so long, it's hard to wrap my head around that there might be a breakthrough here -
Nice to see ya, Frex! I'll be watching your progress!

Thanks again TayMay! And I appreciate the suggestion. I believe you're referring to the SPAM, correct? I have it installed as of about a week ago, but I haven't decided whether to integrate it into this region yet, as I don't know how it will affect the existing infrastructure created without SPAM. I might make a copy and go through the entire region developing to see what effects there are, then either keep the copy with SPAM or go back to the original and not use it. It'll be a tough decision I think

Thanks, guys! I'm planning for it to be well over 1 million sims regionwide, so I have a lot of work to do. This region I'm building "naturally" out and up over time, and I have a lot of space to go with given the size of the region. Also, here is a closeup of the farms as requested, this one taken in the most developed city. I've upgraded very few rural streets to roads, and the main arterial connections are extremely full of traffic, up to 80 and 90 percent capacity even with NAM, as can be seen by the degradation of the farmland. I like to fit the farms into changes in the land, as well as the differing moisture level as exploited by the trees, hence the shapes

If that's how long it took for your sims to become educated and healthy, then that's how long. Also, this is if there are no other cities in the region. In other cases where growth exists, there can be high tech demand before the first zone is placed.

The suburbs are going to take me forever... and then I have to make the farmland and wilderness too... this project may be awhile

High tech industry doesn't grow when you first begin a city, as the city has to develop a highly educated and healthy workforce beforehand in addition to the parks and infrastructure in place. It sounds like the city has been started, and a low-wealth residential base created, but little of the more educated and healthier sims, which would also explain the lower demand for commercial. I wouldn't expect to start seeing high tech industry until the city is either much larger or much more time has gone by.

Here's one of my regions, very much still a work in progress:

Replies: nukeu123: Thanks! And yeah, at that point I was still working through some hardware issues. It should be better in this episode Schulmanator/halenbyname: Thanks! I currently use the free version of a program called Bandicam. I don't have the funds to purchase any recording software, and free Fraps only lets you record for about 30 seconds. I might upgrade in the future, but that's only if I plan to do more large-scale stuff. Episode 5: Yes, I know the content is on the left side of the screen. I was having random compatibility issues and that was the only way to fix it.

Hey guys, my name is CoastRunner, (nickie when I first joined a few years ago) and these are the first installments of my Let's Play series of SimCity4! I'm still a relatively new YouTuber, and am working ony my commentary (and content XD) so the first 4 will be of rather lower quality. I hope you enjoy watching the pure gameplay though, and know that it will be better in the future! I'm currently working on Episode 5, which will be about 3 hours of gameplay sped up in a 25-minute video. It'll be here soon And also, is it ok to have it posted in here and the other CJ section? I just want to make sure.

How long does it take for your game to load
CoastRunner replied to EWA98204's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I find that, with a 400 mB plugin folder on a 2yr old laptop, it takes about 30 seconds for the game to load a large region from the desktop. From there to load a full large city tile ranges from 15 seconds to 45 seconds if it is absolutely packed, but I have very few cities like that. Most of my plugins are suburban. -
What is the population of your largest city?
CoastRunner replied to legomiles's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
My largest city right now is, no joke, a little over 30,000 people. The region has over a million people, but Sevier is the largest city at 30,500. I've made cities in the past that were around 100,000, but it takes a very long time to get that kind of growth when you use natural growth.
