Hello, All.

I thought about posting to this thread about SG's latest two lots and finally decided I needed (wanted?) to add my comments.

< FLAMING OFF!   VANDY climbs onto his soapbox and, taking a deep breath, says: >

First of all, let me say that I am a Christian.  I am not going to further qualify that statement unless asked.  Suffice to say that I believe.

This does not mean that I'm going to rant and rave about the moral value of these lots and condemn them and their author to everlasting damnation.  That is not mine to do.

What I will say is that I believe that SimGoober has brought that little extra bit of realism to SC4 with the addition of these lots.  If anyone is really interested, this isn't the first two adult-oriented lots on STEX.  (I certainly won't list what they are -- go search for yourself.  I did.)

Building a city that covers as many lifestyles as possible isn't realistic without introducing this element into the game.  I've been to enough cities in enough states and countries to know this.

Given that downloading this type of file is a personal choice, then I believe we probably need to leave it at that -- a personal choice.

Myself?  I've downloaded both (and the others I've already referenced) as well as quite a few other questionable types of files - slums, bars, etc. and intend to use them to enhance those seedy areas of my cities.

FLAMING ON!  Vandy, exhaused from his speech, steps off his soapbox and back into the woodwork. >

Good job on these BATS, SimGoober, and thank you for the variety.

Regards,

Vandy

In the end you will see, You is you and me is me.

The game is called SIM city. It's a simulation. Some people tend to think it's an idealisation, I notice. Those people aren't interested in simulating anything at all, they make a fantasy image of gigantic wealthy cities without crime and prostitution etcetera. According to me, that is SO wrong. Therefore, I really like these XXX-lots. Whatever the moralists tend to think about it. As I already wrote as a comment on those lots, people apparently have no problems with missile sites and navy bases, heck, the possibility to play God and destroy the lives of millions of Sims in your city even ships with the game as a standard option. If I want, I can simulate a 9/11 for you in the game, no problem. Does that make me a potential terrorist?

Therefore, this whole controversy is just a typical case of hypocrisy.

Keep up the good work, SimGoober!

I'm a liberal my self and I say bring on the realism, that's what everyone are talking about all the time right? And it is, as Klemvast stated, a simulation so... What is wrong with a XXX-shop?
Seriously, there aren't even small pictures of bodys on the shop! The building just says XXX-shop, I just think this conversation is ridicioulus, there is loads of sex, violence, and other stuff that may be striking on TV all day that children watch.
Personally i think it's more dangerous if children are NOT educated in sex, but enough about that, if people want to talk more about this subject it should be moved to a different thread, or to a different forum! NOT HERE! 28.gif

So I support you SG, keep up the outstanding work, it's a human right to say what you want and express yourself so there is nothing wrong about your shop. 1.gif

Take care!

While we're at it could you not remove

Toys-r-Us - They have those Barbie dolls that are to sexual..bad message

Fast Food Joints- They might offend some with a weight problem

Connivance Stores- They sell cigarettes and that might send the wrong message

Churches - only the in game house of worship should be allowed since it doesn't promote any specific religion

Ok, ok - enough with the discussion already! Would you like to reveal some of your plans for future BATs to us mere mortals, SimGoober? Maybe we can get back to topic this way... 2.gif

Hogmeister, how is it hypocritical to make a statement voicing disapproval of a lot that is concurrent with a person's beliefs and value systems?

Hypocrisy would be me voicing my displeasure for these lots before I downloaded them and used them, or 15 minutes before I left with my buddies to go frequent one.

I don't recall seeing anyone damned to hell as some have to eloquently put it.  Go back and read the posts, as they are, without any previous conceptions.  I think you'll probably be unhappily surprized to note that the mud is being slung by those who are supporting this lot and what it stands for.

And a final thought... someone mentioned, and I quote,

... why not also ban other unpleasant elements - crime, pollution, traffic, garbage. I don't like those IRL so they shouldn't be in the game.

I think that is part of the point of the game... to minimize these negative effects so that the cities work as efficiently as possible.

If you don't like or are displeased with a BAT for political or religious reasons then you have the option of not downloading it or facilitating your views through it. Personally I care little for  McDonalds and Churches posted on the STEX, but a lot of people probably like them, its no skin off my nose and I don't feel the need to preach my views through the STEX about them. The views of one type of person should not prevail and attain censorship for anyone who may disagree.

Welcome to the public domain and the public is varied and its domain stretches from the absurd to the trivial.  This site is a wide collection of  all walks of life from all over the planet.

Well done SG - i think these LOTs are very useful for in-game play as some undesirables mean you have to keep watch on your city that little bit more. This is SG's idea behgind them. The game is too easy - and needs some more bad apples to make it fun for those not making beautiful CJs. In any case I have been inspired to make a gay-black-transvestite-lesbian abortion clinic for my next project...3.gif31.gif

Man, added two whole pages to this thread on two lots... lol...

I have to admit, I keep laughing at some of the comments made; but it might be for different reasons than you might think... People automatically assume that only liberals would like this sort of place, and only conservatives would complain against it.  Lets just say the guy who made them doesn't fit that statement.   No more politics...

I just uploaded one more in this series, at the requests of a few of our lady members... this puts me at 149 uploads.  I have # 150 ready to go, and will try to get it on the STEX this weekend.  The Toys R Us and Best Buy will be out the 24 and 25th, their anniversary, and I will upload them new and fresh, as they have undergone significant upgrades...

I have also thought of a more traditional Red Light district, and might make something along that lines.  If you have any suggestions of where to get pictures of what you mean, please post them.  Just be sure they are suitable for our site here; the lots I have posted, I have taken care to be sure they are not too suggestive or graphic.  Do the same for any pics you want to post.  I WILL NOT be posting anything that shows anything you wouldn't see on broadcast TV.  But heck, most of the stuff on TV I wouldn't consider worthy of looking at, so maybe that standard is too low...

I think about things like this and wonder why they're a problem in the first place.  The objection to the concept of a digital strip club (that is an optional download even) is a pretty far stretch.  I understand the objection to the strip clubs themselves perhaps, or the adult industry in general but to choose to be offended (and make no mistake, those offended so easily are choosing to be) simply by a name and a concept that is entirely optional content is something else.  There is no reason to censure because people are too easily offended.  Sure, we want to keep it clean and outright pornographic material isn't allowed, but this is so minor it's pathetic.

To you complainers out there; there is an important life lesson in your reaction: Life can be offensive at times.  If you're offended by something the best way to handle it is to not participate in it, acknowledge it, or indulge in it.  Then realize that your opinion isn't the only opinion and others may not feel as strongly as you do or might even feel the opposite.  They have a right to do things that offend you.  And thank God they do, else we wouldn't have the freedom to be offended in the first place...

Good work on the BAT SG...

    Ry,

It is basically not the 'offending' part that gets me, it is the point that if my parents saw this, would they approve of the site? No. This is something that must change. Thanks SG for screwing this site for the kids here. I mean, there are adults here, they are of course superior, Let's let the kids have access to lap dancing clubs. SG, you are one admirable member, and basically I wish you would ruin the site for more kids, that would be awesome! 33.gif

dev I only have 1 observation, I find it hard to believe that parents who let their minor child be online at 1:51 am on a school night would have an issue with anything posted on this website!

I have to agree with dev, I read about PG rating, trust me anything that contain or has a perspective of Hookers, Showgirls, XXX videos is M rated also sex related.
If all these BATs start popping up, dirk would have to create a sort by rating in the exchange.
This website is composed of kids too, if you were a parent you wouldnt want your son/daughter downloading XXX video market for him to play in his/her game.
Ok, OK it's realistic, but who said SimCity is real?
Sim City might be a city simulation game but it doesnt have to include certain universal problems such as prostitution.
Next time look for something that has a better effect on people other than sex related creations.
Good job! you just made more than 200 kids curious about what XXX video stands for.

Ok... look I think this needs to stop now. Opinions have been voiced, it's gotten personal, and serves no purpose anymore.

    Bottom Line:
It's up to SG if he feels he should keep releasing lots with less-than-kosher themes.
And it's up to dirk to determine if they are appropriate for the site.

Other than that, the debate and discussion serves no purpose other to get people in other's faces.

Just the same, Rybolton, it is my right to dissent, and I am choosing to carry out my right (and thus be about as democratic as possible) of the dissenting voice.

You assume that I'm offended by the appearance of these lots.  I'm not.  They exist.  I see them quite often.  And I haven't even said that I demand that these lots be removed from the STEX.  I've just said that I disagree with them and that's about it.  I haven't preached as Gascooker says.  I am fully capable, but I have chosen to refrain.  My purpose is not to try and change peoples' minds.  Y'all have already set in your minds how dumb and closeminded I am, and there isn't much I can do to change that.  In reality, this attitude is a very closeminded attitude... but I digress.

My purpose is to prove that there IS another voice.  What is accepted as the status quo does not have to be end all on the matter.  And the fact that this is reality doesn't mean that we need to celebrate it, as has been done in reaction to these lots.  My beef has been more with how these lots have been placed on the pedistal (by some, I don't intend to implicate the entire community).  I disagree with the spirit of these lots and that's why I have bothered to even comment on them.

EDIT:  Nicely said Dudy.  I agree completely.

Here, I'll be a sport and answer though it really wasn't meant for one like me, just so you can see what I'm like....

    1. Mostly Alternative, though Reggae, Classic Rock, and Metal are also on my list.
    2. Tough to say, I like more Mature Cartoons like Family Guy, Futurama, and also Anime, Law and Order, and some of the suprisingly funny cartoons on Cartoon Network.
    3. Sims.... I'm mostly a console player, though I like Shooters, Real Time Strats, and Fighting Games (Halo 2, SWAT series, Rise of Nations, DBZ Budokai Series on PS2, oh and DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball... what can I say, I'm a guy!)
