Antarctica is huge. The heightmapper software I use crashed when I tried to load more than this. A lot of it is unremarkable with the exception of this slice of land. I thought this would be a bad idea about 10 minutes into this but it turned out alright. The terrain mod by @Teirusu over here:
really sells it. If you choose to use this terrain mod with this map. You don't need the files "snow_capped_lower.dat or snow_capped_terrain.dat". Just put them aside or delete them. It's another terrain mod altogether and would conflict with the - "arctic_snowcapped_textures.dat and Arctic_terrain.dat" files for the map to look like the pictures. If all files went into your plugins folder, nothing would happen. This is a large map. It can't easily be measured but there are roughly 34 playable large city tiles.
The install, other than getting the terrain mod, is easy. Just unzip to: C:\USER\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions and load the game. Please enjoy and watch out for The Thing!
