About This File

A DLL plugin for SimCity 4 that

  • enables submenu functionality: This DLL is a dependency for other submenu-compatible plugins.
  • adds more than 50 standard submenus such as Plazas, Green Spaces, Sports and many more.
  • fixes the game's menu rendering issues caused by duplicate or missing menu icons.
  • (Exemplar Patching functionality has been removed in version 2.0.0 of the Submenus DLL. This is now implemented in the Resource Loading Hooks DLL, so Exemplar Patching doesn't depend on the Submenus DLL anymore. Make sure to upgrade to version 2.0.1 or later of the Resource Loading Hooks DLL.)

System requirements

  • SimCity 4, version 1.1.641 (the digital release) (more info)
  • Windows 7+ or Linux

Dependencies

Installation

  • Copy the DLLs into the top-level directory of either Plugins folder (place it directly in <Documents>\SimCity 4\Plugins or <SC4 install folder>\Plugins, not in a subfolder).
  • Copy the file submenu-essentials.dat and optionally the individual submenu files anywhere into your Plugins folder. You may skip installing an optional submenu if it contains neither Flora nor any sub-submenus. In that case, the buildings of that submenu will appear in the default top-level menu instead.

Alternatively, the mod can be installed with Sc4pac: memo:submenus-dll

Further information

  • The DLL dynamically creates new submenus by checking for some new exemplar properties, for example in the building exemplars of ploppable lots. This allows anyone to create additional submenus for their lot sets. The modding details are described in the Readme file.
  • List of Standard Submenus added by this mod.

Hope this DLL will work in my computer, and more DLL to manage the aforementioned clutters.

Is there any chance an Editor could be written for this plugin to quickly apply the changes to the building files?

Yeah, this would be super. Possibly even necessarily given the number of mods out there.

@pedroac20c Please provide more details about your setup and about what you have tried so far.

  • What is your operating system?
  • Which version of the game do you use?
  • Did you put both DLLs into the correct folder?
  • Is there a log file (memo.submenus.log) in that folder and does it contain any information?
  • Did you check the Troubleshooting section of the Readme file and install the x86 Redistributable that is mentioned there?

Windows 10

SimCity 4, version 1.1.641

all files are in the same plugin folder

this is what the file says:

Submenus DLL 1.1.2
09:54:33 Installed the Duplicate/Missing Menu Icons fix.
09:54:33 Installed the Submenus patch.
09:54:37 Installed the Exemplar Patching feature.
10:02:57 Loaded 0 Exemplar patches targeting, in total, 0 Exemplar files.
10:06:57 Initialized 0 submenus (0 empty, 0 not reachable).

The only thing I need to check is the x86 file, but I could swear I have it installed, anyway I'm going to check

Ok, you don't need the x86 file, as the DLL already loaded successfully, according to the log file. However, it looks like you didn't install any of the individual submenus. They are all contained in the folder submenus/optional/. Choose the ones you want. I recommend putting the entire folder into your plugins to install all of them.

Sorry, I thought I had installed the submenus, but I see that I haven't, thanks for the help!!

Excellent mod, I like it a lot, but by any chance, is there a way to add the growable buildings to the menu, would it be possible?

Hi, I installed the Submenus and so on, running Win11, I got this msg after loading the game...I went trough the menus, its ok, I have many plugins and I dont actually know if anything is missing so just wondering if anyone else has this error and what it may be reffering to: Warning. The city you are loading refers tk following plugin which aren't available on your machine. You can continue the game in absence of those packs, but some of the graphics and other information may be incorrect. Plugin pack- 619034298

This generally happens when you remove a plugin from your Plugins folder that is already used in one of your cities. You might have removed it intentionally for debugging purposes, which is fine, but usually you'd want to restore it and demolish any lot from a plugin before you remove the plugin and before saving the city again. (It's not related to this DLL.)

Okay Awesome mod! I know the mod adds ploppable categories like CO$$ or R$$$ for example but is it possible to add the default Maxis Lots to those categories? The same way Plopp Mod Final adds them all to the landmark category, or the LotPlop Cheat would work? Great mod either way though!

If you install RH PlopModd Final, the buildings will automatically appear in the ploppable submenus of the zoning menu.

Small and medium playgrounds aren't showing up

It must be something else in your Plugins.

I realized after posting this that it may in fact have been something to do with the CAM which now uses this DLL as a dependency.  Unfortunately these things aren't deleted so easily.  Thank you tho.

I'm still having issues with new update.  In flora menu I am missing the PEG water 1" and 1/2" or something.  I am also using KRG Submenus , and If I remove it, the PEG water options show up.  I tried contacting @kergelen a few times, maybe if you can help them fix this on their end. Thanks.

Disregard my comment, this appears to be fixed.  The missing items are now in Parks menu- lumped with all the PEG pond stuff.  This is good, at least they are not fully removed from the game

That's a good idea for a mod. I wonder how hard would it be to make the sub menus appear to the side of the current menu.
