About This File

Hi everybody!

SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition (Vanilla) experimental upload.

Suleburg and its neighbour Little Lake have a population of around 67 000 sims. Suleburg is on a large city map and Little Lake is on a medium city map. Little Lake is connected to Suleburg on the west-north-west side via monorail, bus, and road. Both cities seem to be doing fairly well. I would love to see how other simmers grow these cities.

I used are the Longfellow Castle and Brandenburg Gate from the SC4 Maxis files.

-Cori edit: I made the Castle and Gate clickable linkys.

@ColinM

We staff have discussed this upload and as we decide on city files on a case by case basis yours is allowed to stay since the file size is not overwhelming the ST server. *:)

However, I'd personally like to see the ease of use improved on this such as including the config.bmp and region.ini file and then zipping the whole shebang into one downloadable zip file. Additionally we now have the Maxis Files here on the STEX and so linkys to the Longfellow Castle and Brandenburg Gate would also be a nice addition to your description.

For reference I copied the two city files into my Regions\Downloads folder, created a new random region, and then imported the cities like this:

Region Transportation View.jpg

^ Transportation view so we can see the monorail line up properly between them.

I like these two cities.

I think we should upload more cities to Simtropolis.

If someone tells me how to do it, I'll do it

The way I did it was to download both city files into my Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\Downloads folder. Then I loaded SC4 and created a new region. The important part here is to find if you have a Large tile with a Medium adjacent to the upper right of the Large tile as shown in my picture above. Next click the Large tile to get the Start New City popup and then click the icon on the left which is Import City. When that pops up a folder tree, click the + sign beside Downloads. You should then see Suleburg listed. Single click it to highlight it. Then click Import City. Repeat this for the Medium tile and select Little Lake.

We're hoping @ColinM will make this a single zip file download with the config.bmp and region.ini files in it so one could just unzip into the Regions folder and be ready to go.

Edit: Btw, if upon entering each city to play it pops up a question about Reconciling Edges, select No. (I have mine turned off so I don't even see said popup, but you might.)

@CorinaMarie Thank you again for your advice and allowing these city files to stay online. I was unable to upload the zip file. An error message occurred.

Well, phooey. I hate it when that happens.

Our techy admin, @Cyclone Boom, also noticed your post here and did some testing. It took three attempts for him to upload a temporary file which confirms there was a wee bit of trouble. He then cleared out the site's cache, re-tested, and it worked on the first try. While not conclusive proof everything is better, it is encouraging.

How about giving it another try or two? Should that still fail you could try attaching your file to a PM to me and I can take it from there to get it loaded here.

I think that you have not understand me. I have been able to play with these two cities without problems.

What I wanted to say is that I would like to know how to upload to the web cities made by me

@CorinaMarie Success!

@prtsc5 To add content click +Create at the top of the Simtropolis home page. Select STEXUpload from the dropdown menu. The Select a Category window appears. I chose SimCity 4 Buildings then Maps then Continue.

Your region file is in Documents/Simcity4/Regions. I uploaded the Suleburg Region successfully as a compressed .zip file! To upload stand-alone cities, their files are in their respective region folder as a .sc4

Best!

Oops. You are correct. I misunderstood. *:blush: See @ColinM's reply above for how to upload your city or region.

Speaking as staff now: We have recently (in the past couple of years) started allowing cities and regions to be hosted on the STEX. We have not officially set a size limit, but our general guideline is 50 mb or less total. (We can still make exceptions on a case by case basis.)

Ideally the upload will be mostly vanilla Maxis content with the idea to appeal to newer players. A list of any custom content should be included with clickable links for non-Maxis content which is used in the cities. We want to prevent anyone from getting brown boxes or having missing props.

@ColinM

I just grabbed your new region file and when unzipping on my Windoze 7 comp it shows the folder and files in green which indicates encryption (even tho they are not actually encrypted). This can happen if they were created and zipped on a Mac (and potentially other OS's). I've taken the liberty of re-zipping them and replacing the file so peeps won't be asking about why the file names turn out green. While I was at it, I made the names of the Longfellow Castle and Brandenburg Gate to be clickable linkys in your description text.

Thanks to ColinM and CorinaMarie for your advice.

I've always dreamed that people share their cities in Simtropolis.

I will try to upload some of my best cities in .zip format.

I hope my cities do not have many brown boxes.

I will try to put the dependencies which will only be some emblematic buildings

So, I've had a chance to play with Suleburg a lot. *:)

I've not played anything else now for the past three days. First off. I love that it is so accessible by having only Maxis vanilla content and just two extra files of theirs to download. Second, the layout is good inasmuch as it seems to have been a farming community that has slowly grown into a larger city. The transitions from farms to residential to the CBD has a natural feel to it.

I've been making my tweaks in the city with the game paused and then turning it on and letting it run on high speed. I take what I learn from that, exit, reload, tweak, save, and run again. Always from the start. It's made for interesting scenarios for me.

Here's the center part in my last run:

And another prior version when someone talked me into testing Flora Blast 5000 5000 5000 in the already developed city:

All the city files (and the config.bmp and region.ini) need to be in a folder within the Regions folder. If it went two levels deep you'll need to copy them up a level.

So like this:

\Documents
  \SimCity 4
    \Regions
      \Suleburg
<< They all go in here.

Yes, the Suleburg folder can be created and then copy all the files inside.

The zip file is best stored outside, and if you've still got this then there's no need to download again.
