Iron gate ( Đerdapska klisura, Porţile de Fier ) is a gorge on the Danube river. With it's length of 134km, Iron gate is the largest gorge in Europe. It is composed of several smaller gorges and straights. One of the straights, which is called Veliki Kazan ( Great Boiler )is at the same time the narrowest and the deepest point of the Danube ( 150m wide and 53m deep ). This gorge makes a natural border between Serbia and Romania, between Carpathian and Balkan mountain ranges.

Đerdap gorge as we call it in Serbian, or Iron gate, is the cradle of European civilization. An archaeological site, called Lepenski vir is situated here. This is a first human settlement in Europe which dates from around 7000 BC.

Roman emperor Trajan made a bridge here which he used to conquer Dacia province. This was one of the largest bridges in ancient times.

For ages, sale on the Danube was almost impossible here and special boat pilots were used just to navigate the ships safely through very dangerous underwater rocks. In 1972. and 1984. Serbia and Romania made two dams called Đerdap I and Đerdap II which raised the river surface for 35 meters and allowed safe navigation here. The might giant called The Danube is tamed for good!

This is an accurate 9x15 huge tiles region ( two times smaller than in RL ). I erased the dams here and made the Danube navigable for the whole it's course. :ducky:

***NOTE

I didn't lower mountain altitudes for a half. If you find it impossible to play in this region as it is, just use the compressor tool in sc4 terraformer program and set 220 as the lowest point and 873 as the highest point. That should be it.

Enjoy!

Cheers from Serbia!

I love the Danube very much. It runs through my home city and I spend a lot of time on it's shores.

Please, do spend several minutes to listen this wonderful music about the Danube and to see some of it's fascinating beauty. Thank you in advance!! :thumb::thumb:
