Dichostasia
a Greek word that can be translated "stand apart".

Map This! - Cartography Services

War and strife have been the twin children of Dichostasia since man first inhabited the region.  The tribes that settled in the river valley have fought over possession of this fertile and rich land for millenniums.  When peace was finally found in the valley, the mountain tribes from the two flanking mountain ranges would descend upon the valley’s inhabitants pillaging and plundering all they could find.  During those rare times when even the mountain tribes were at peace, the coastal dwellers (when they weren’t fighting amongst themselves) would make forays inland to extend their own land holdings by grabbing what land they could from the valley dwellers.  This is the cycle that continued throughout the ages into what we now refer to as the “modern times”.

Finally, after centuries upon centuries of fighting, Dichostasia has found a measure of stability and peace.  All of the leaders of the various city states in the region have come together pledging to each other their peace and hope for developing the region together – separately as city states but together as a region.  There is much hope and joy in the land.  All of the people sense a new beginning is afoot and ready to spring forth into fruition.  Only time will tell if Dichostasia will remain a region united or continue as a region standing apart from itself.

Dichostasia was commissioned by and produced for the Multi-Player Region Play (MuPRep) Group at Pegasus Productions for their use in creating a multi-player environment for SimCity 4 play.

Dichostasia offers a wide river valley with multiple rivers flanked by two mountain ranges.  There is a long and inviting coastline for development of seafaring communities.  The river valley offers a large area for developing small to large cities and the mountainous areas afford the development of “artist” communities or vacation/tourist types of towns.  The long coastline gives ample opportunities for developing seaports and tourist-related industries with some off-shore islands that are just begging for visitors.

Hmmm.... Nice map. It could be a little bigger. Is the map inspired by any Greek place (Dichos stasia)?

Voulpiotis, thanks for your comment. For me this is a big map. I tend to create medium to small size maps in order for people to better create and completely develop a region but not slow down the game. Silur, I'm a bit puzzled by your comment. Could you better explain what you meant?

Vandy: I was wondering about the Greek name of the map... You know, it is really rare to see Greek things in Simtropolis. I checked your other maps and just realised that this map is one of your biggest. Nice and thanks for sharing.

Voulpiotis, as this map was commissioned for a group that is going to be developing the region together as separate city states, I wanted to come up with a name that, to me, reflected a region who has seen its share of strife and division -- hence, Dichostasia -- which can be translated as "stand apart".

It was my way of creating a name for a "state of being" -- that is, a timeless struggle between the good and the evil in mankind; the dominance and the peacefulness of man; the ability to stand together and flourish or stand apart and whither as overripe grapes on the vine of all that is wrong with man and the world. ---End of philosophical discussion.

And as one of the group in the aforementioned comments, thank you. It is a beautiful map and I am excited to start its development. Very very special thank you, my friend. :-)

Hi, MizellChris. Once you've downloaded the map, you'll have to use either SC4Terraformer or SC4Mapper to create the map then you'll be able to launch SC4 and render the map. I've inlcuded detailed instructions for doing this in the Read Me file that is part of the download. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

As I've said elsewhere, I love both the history / substance behind the map and the map itself! You are top-class! :) 10/10
