About This File

DRMK - Transit enabled Rural trail set v.2 - MODIFIED by Swamper77

A set of transit enabled rural trails to connect your farms to the road network.

VERY IMPORTANT - ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This Rural Trail set would never have been done (at least by me), without the great work of several people from which I used the LOTS and PROPS.

The main idea behind the creation of this set came from using both Deadwoods dirt trails, and Suico rural fences. I wanted to use them both at the same time! So I decided to fire up the LE and commit myself again!

I'd like to thank Deadwoods and Suico whose great lots I've used, also a big thanks to Vlakhaas for his Hedges, all those involved at BSC for creating those great Mega Props Pack and to PEG for the PEG_Resort-Pack.

Finally a heartflet Thank you to Swamper who improved those lots, so they could be more efficient.

If, by sheer ignorance, I forgot someone, please inform me and I'll correct this readme file right away.

v. 2 improvements: NEW SECTION

All improvements are the work of Swamper 77 who I want to salute and thank!

He generously did that without being asked, and I'm grateful for his help!

The improvements are:

  1. Now compatible for Mac
  2. Railroad crossing now allowing freight AND passenger trains and a raised capacity of 4000 instead of 100
  3. Street crossing capacity increased from 100 to 500 thus reducing the possibility of congestion.
  4. Removing of several non-used properties such as : Power, water, park and landmark effects. Resulting in a "cleaner" file.
  5. He removed the reference to the Farm Fences that Suico released on the STEX long ago. The only reason they were required was for the building model. he changed the referenced model to the invisible one that Maxis uses on their parks.
  6. He also edited the "Exemplar Name" property for each lot to have a unique name.

DEBUGGING

A heartfelt thank you goes to NicolaiS, BoeMatic, daihtnaoz and CaptCity who by their comment and patient testing, helped me find what was missing. It turned out to be an omission on my part. I simply forgot to put Suico Fences in the dependencies. That was the missing piece.

Gentlemen I hereby thank you for your generous help.

BETA TESTER

I'd like to thank my good friend Dan (Dhoppeii) for beta testing and doing the QA on those lots.

In fact as he is responsible for me doing rural communities it's only fitting that he test them! WINK

DEPENDENCIES - EDITED

Brace yourself! There's a lot (and I mean A LOT), of 'em.

I still have to learn how to use as few dependencies as I can. So please forgive me for that huge shopping list!

Great idea. I don't play farms much but these will still be very useful to me in other ways so thanks for sharing.

Whoa, john- these are major! You've just saved me a ton of work, because I was thinking about the same thing (I'm sure yours are done better than mine would have been in any event- me, jealous? Nope, just coldly factual). I'd say more, but my fingers are itchin' to start plopping these. 11/10!

Cool, but I have never had much luck with these kinds of tilesets. They are just too tedious to place. Thumb up but no rating.

To Kimcar - Do you have the brownbox on ALL the tiles, if not could you tell me on wich one you have it and then we'll try to find what's missing. - To David : I'd like to modify them in the near future so the fences could be slope conforming ala BuddyBud.

I've always wanted a good 'dirt road' mod, and this looks like it might be cool, however, I'm playing on a Mac. I don't have the 'Castle ramparts' or 'Stonehenge' dats as the 'Official' SC4 site doesn't recognise Mac serials, and I can't download from there. I get brown boxes on all the lots. Bummer eh?

To - Kimcar - Are you also playing on a Macintosh? - Don't get me wrong I love Macs I work everyday with my trusty G5 and wouldn't trade it for any PC! But I play SC4 on my PC...

I got brown box too, more than 2 tiles lot i can see trail and 1 brown box, 1 tiles lot i only with brown box. I've checked dependencies with SC4 tool, there's nothing wrong. Not Mac. IMHO RHW's something wrong, cause My ANT network missing, There's two Rual High Way in my Menu.

Seems that I have the brown box problem too. I'm missing the same texture file and have two RHW buttons in my menu. I made sure to download and install all of the correct dependencies (and the dependencies for them as well!), then triple checked that there was nothing I had missed....but unfortunately the brown boxes are still being delivered.

To- ggavy - BoeMatic and daihtnaoz. I also have two RHW buttons in the menu, have those since I installed the RHW, but don't have the brown boxes problem though. Now It looks like we have a more precise pointer with daihtnaoz saying that the texture with the railroad piece is missing. I'll look into this (perhaps tonight) if I can find some time! Perhaps a thread would be a good idea to try to sort this out..

Another thing i just noticed: When i place a piece that is 3 tiles big, two tiles are shown correctly. One is covered by a brown box. The same with 2 tile pieces. I also can't connect them. When i place one piece and try to place another one directly beside the first to connect the trails it says "already occupied".

I have the same problem BoeMatic, it would appear that a particular prop used in those specific areas may be the problem. A lot of texture and prop packs have been condensed lately and i'm wondering if maybe something got left out of the loop. I,m gonna try moving my plugins and installing only the listed dependencies to see if there's a conflict.

I tried a very basic run with just the nessecary files in my plugins folder and it seems that the boxes are there to stay until we can find the missing piece of the puzzle.

TO - Boematic - I remind you as stated in the readme file that you cannot put two TE (blue icons) lot together... you use a TE lot to connect to the street, and if you want to add more pice you then use the NON-TE (green icons) lot, they are NOT like the NAM puzzle piece, their purpose is to enable a farm to be connected to the road/street network.

TO ALL - I have some free time tonighy, so I'll redo some analysis of the lots to try to find out the problem, though the beta tester didn't had any problems, perhaps it's a conflict of some sort. - going to work on this now...

TO ALL - Been experimenting for over an hour now, didn't find any problems yet, perhaps if you could tlle me what's missing, : Fences, rocks, steel drums, trucks, horse trailer, pickup truck, would be helping me. Also as stated in the title bar it's for SC4 DELUXE never been tested on SC4 vanilla... (waiting for more input...)

Looks like a super set! Would and should be a 10... I, unfortunately, am also getting the dreaded 'brown box' on all pieces. I've spent the last couple days checking and rechecking all the dependencies. Everything looks OK. When using Peg's brown-box mod, all props 'appear' to be there. I did see that the path was on top of the street in the path-street crossing. Maybe a texture issue?

TO CaptCity - That's a very interesting detail, I've been experimenting with that particular piece last night, and can assure you that the path looked to be under the street, though I didn't reopened it in the LE. But when removing the ftexture.dat (street) the path was visible, and when putting it back thae street is back on. If it affects ALL lots I would suspect the dirt track texture. --- will continue to search for the culprit!

TO ALL WHO HAVE PROBLEMS - Could you please check if you have in your plugin folder the following file : PEG_Random-Woods-Textured_206.dat It's necessary for the Deadwoods dirt trails... (worth a try)
