About This File

*** UPDATED: Aug 17, 2007 ***

The bus and subway stations in SimCity require a 1x1 tile to be built. This not only takes up valuable space and makes very hard to build them after the lots have been developed (esp in downtown areas) but it is also unrealistic, as in most places in the world the bus stops are placed on sidewalks.

So, some community members have made a set of bus stops and subways that can be placed directly on roads, known as "Road-Top Mass-Transit". The two earlier versions were made by Darkmatter, Teirusu and CJMarshall (CJM). This new version has been named Version 3.00.

- Special thanks to mcdrye; he has made a model specifically for the purpose.
- Many thanks to Antoine, Gascooker, gshmails, NOB, Pooty, Porkissimo, RalphaelNinja, and SimGoober for granting permission to use their models in the package.
- Many thanks to Thorvin, Swamper77 and Tropod for the help and the information they have provided.

New Features in this Version:
This plugin has been based on the previous work made by CJM but incorporates many additional features. The new key features are listed below:

- Realistic Buildings and Props: the lots now have buildings and props that are likely to lie around mass-transit stops and stations, for example bus stop shelters and phone booths instead of benches and planters.
- Selectable and Interchangeable Buildings and Props: they can be selected by the player (in any combination, rather than in "themes"). The building set can also be extended. So, it is possible to build a transit system in your own, very special and customisable style.
- Revamped texturing system: the stations now have separate textures for the sidewalk/pavement and the road markings (now implemented as overlay textures), making their appearance customisable and compatible to the Euro Roads Textures Mod (or any other road textures scheme) and allowing to use custom road markings.
- NAM- and CAM-Compatible Capacities: capacities have been modified, so as to match the different capacities of NAM and CAM. There are separate .dat files for each capacity configuration.
- Non-Roadtop Stations: the package now includes three non-roadtop stations (bus, subway, combo); they use the same models and props and have common design principles.
- GLR-in-Avenue Stations: new stations for the Avenue/GLR dual network puzzle pieces of the new NAM. These include not only busstops and subways, but GLR stations as well (all combinations).
- Translations to German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Japanese and Chinese (both traditional and simplified).
- Menu-Management Lot (MML), hiding menu buttons, and enabling them again by plopping a Construction Lot.
- Additional improvements concerning the plop and maintenace cost consistency, hover and click queries, menu buttons and descriptions, lot sizes, wealth settings etc.

Change Log:

- Aug 30, 2005: V3.00, Release. If you have this version pls download again!

- Nov 1, 2005 UK Bus-Stop Road-Markings - Updated!
- Nov 20, 2005 Berlin Mass-Transit Theme
- Jan 30, 2006 German MT Road Markings - Updated!

Roadtop Transit is a great idea, but the installation and use of this mod is way to complicated with the different prop families, transit enabling, complications, etc. I'd only recommend it to advanced SC4 players.

This should really help me because i am building dense cities and the regular bus stops and subway stations just throw space in the trash

After getting the dependecies, the lots work, but the only bus stop I'm getting is this UGLY pure blue one, not any of the other bus stop props. Also, the word "Bus stop" is streched across the entire road, and only in one direction.

I'll installed everything exactly as it says to do and I'm still seeing nothing but big cardboard boxes. I would have to say you made installation rather difficult by forcing separate downloads. You can laud something as a team effort and give proper credit where it is due without creating so much extra hassle. Any ideas why this isn't working? I'm moving the respective files in the models and props folders, as explained. I even tried just dumping everything into one folder, but still... nothing. Thoughts? Great idea, I hope to take advantage of it.

One suggestion: simplify the ReadMe.

I take that back, I missed the installation examples document. Installation aside, brilliant idea and product!

Would it really have killed you to list the dependencies on this page, rather than the documentation?

Can there be an installer to make it easy to install? This is jsut WAY too complex for me. :( Apparently there is a instaler, but clicking the link brings me to the main page for the download section.

FOR AMATEURS OUT THERE LIKE ME! READ THIS!

I have finally discovered how to make this thing work. NO MORE BROWN BOXES. It is very important that you read the documentation, it is long, I know, so I will try to simplify what I did.

I installed the RTMTV3 folder in the plugins folder (my documents/simcity4/plugins). then read the ReadMe file where the dependency files are listed, you need to download the models you like, all the dependencies links are provided, YOU DONT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE ONES YOU DONT WANT, and for simplicity, don't download more than one type of model, for example, download only one type of bus stop. Put the downloaded files anywhere in the plugins folder (put them in subfolders if you like).

Then basically what you need to do is delete a bunch of files. in the InstallationExamples file, you will find 4 examples, I left my main RTMTV3 folder exactly like the first example (once again, this is done by deleting the rest of files that dont appear in the first example). Then open the ReadMe file and go to dependencies, and look up which file you must have in the "Props" folder for the model to work, and then delete all other model types. For example: to select the [background=rgb(224, 208, 192)]Ninja's BusSign Model,[/background] download the dependencies into the plugins folder, then go to the "Props" folder and you will find three .dat files that begin with "[background=rgb(224, 208, 192)]RTMTV3_Prop_BusSign_[/background]".. you want to use the "Ninja" model type so delete [background=rgb(224, 208, 192)]RTMTV3_Prop_BusSign_TfL.dat [/background]and [background=rgb(224, 208, 192)]RTMTV3_Prop_BusSign_TH.dat[/background].. leaving only [background=rgb(224, 208, 192)]RTMTV3_Prop_BusSign_Ninja.dat[/background].. Do the same with the other models, and you're done, no more brown boxes! Take into account: in some tables, the single prop implementation are coloured BROWN, and the prop family implementations GREEN. Please install either implementation, BUT NOT BOTH!

Okay, so far I really like this mod. I've installed the props as singles and I see there are 2x1 options there for bus stops, etc. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand what the 2x1 options are used for. What is their purpose? Why would I use them over the regular bus stops (1x1)?

Thanks for any insight you guys can offer!

If you're having issues installing this there is a version with an (more or less) automatic installer, so you don't have to manually delete any files. Just google Road-Top Mass-Transit V3.50 and look for the version that has "installer" in the name. You might have less flexibility in choosing the styles, but if you're like me and only want one functionality (i.e. I just wanted bustops on sidewalks) and could care less about the way it looks, the installer is the way to go.
