Added Mod Region Disappears, along with all mods, Game resets to Vanilla
Da real SC4 Vik posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hello there SimCity 4 community, over the pandemic, I decided to build a large mega city on a new downloaded region called Vancouver. After about 3 months, and 100 hours of gameplay, the city was nearly complete! It had 700000 people, large skyscrapers and 3 other neighboring cities, and a couple of custom interchanges. I also had a lot of mods mostly without dependencies, NAM, Tried CAM (didnt work idk). About 2 weeks ago, I downloaded another BAT, and opened the game. But I mysterioly found that the Vancouver region was missing, even more strangely, the game had been reset back to its vanilla mode... No mods, No custom Region, no mega city, only tutorial ones. I searched my game files, to find everything was still there including the region, with the cities. But they were not loading in the game? I heard that this could be due to a id conflict, but I moved my game files to the steam games file, and the original one, but still nothing has worked. I deleted some of the mods that were not yet loaded into the city, and still nothing came. Are my cities of 7 hundred thousand, and the only thing that kept me sane during the lockdown, lost forever? -
Water disappeared; reinstallation didn't help
Vicente811 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
My game functioned normally up untill i decided to install the NAM-Team's Network Addon Mod. I noticed my game was running slower than usual so I uninstalled NAM. Then suddently whenever I opened a city, the water would be gone, as if the entire terrain had been raised. I've tried deleting all my regions and reinstalling them, I even ununstalled and reinstalled the GAME, but I'm still having the same issue. When I open a region everything seems normal up until I open a city. The attached image shows the region and one city that I saved after encountering this issue. You can see that the water is gone and the terrain looks like it was a high mountain. I believe it's something that the NAM modified in the way in which my computer reads the games files. If anyone please can offer me a solution I would be very thankful. In case you can't open the attachment... https://imgur.com/a/4kng4 or https://imgur.com/ugqHWI3 -
My City has completely Disappeared! Any idea why this would happen? I copied my city often into another directory in the Region subdirectory. I have always done that after achieving a major milestone and replaced the city when I mess something up too much. But today I find that every past version of this city in my backup folder is completely gone, and not in trash. I wonder if when I chose to Delete the city from the region map (instead of my usual way of just closing the game and pasting a copy of the backup city over top of the original) could have somehow deleted ALL instances of that city found in my Regions Directory, including my Backup subdirectory. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Can anyone shed any light on what really was the cause of the now missing city versions? Thanks!

There have been several threads recently on cities that just seem to disappear. Here, I'll try to cover some of the reasons, and some of the recovery strategies. This thread applies only to SimCity 4 Deluxe. Further knowledge in this is welcome. This is what I know about it. Prevention Never switch away from the game during a save. The game is very sensitive to loss of focus during this process and may fail or corrupt your city. There are at least two bad things that can happen here: The city appears as a green area in the region view. This is recoverable (usually). The city is gone and there is a hole in the region view. This needs recovery actions that may not be available to all. Make sure your game is up to date for published patches. As issued on CD, the game is full of bugs corrected by patches published by Maxis. Your game version needs to be at 1,1,638 to be free of Maxis known problems at the time of the patch issuance. Your version should be at 1,1,640 if you expect to get full use of all the custom content available. The digital download of Deluxe (1,1,641) includes the above mentioned fixes, and runs with no CD in the drive. To access the CD patches start here. You may have to register at SC4Devotion for this. Recovery Case 1.1 above. Simply open the city. It should just open. When it does, do an internal save (CTRL+s) to reset the region snapshot.l Case 1.2 requires some work. If you have a backup for your region, simply locate the city in the backup and place it in the <you>/documents/SimCity 4/Downloads folder. Now open the game and click on the empty space. When the open city dialogue appears, simply click on the import city icon (left most one) and navigate to the recovered city in the Downloads folder. All done. You don't have a backup. For this case it depends on whether or not you can render the region again. If you do not have a .SC4M file nor a gray-scale .jpg + config.bmp files, you cannot do this. Pass to the next item. If you have the files, create a new region folder with a different name and copy the base files to this folder. Switch to the folder in the case of a .SC4M file render the region with SC4Terraformer in the usual way. In the case of gray-scale + config.bmp files, open the game, open the new (substitute) region and render it. Close the game. At this point you have a complete layout of the cities in the region including the one that is "lost". The trick now is to locate the proper file since they are all pretty anonymous at this point. Open the game and choose the new region. On the "lost" city, click on it to open it and give it the same name as the lost city. Save and Exit the game -- no switching out. You can now open the new region and find the "lost" city. This is the same as having a backup, so follow the instructions in 2.1 above. This is the ultimate bad luck case. There is no recovery know to this author, so you can either live with the missing city, or abandon the region. Sorry about that.
