  1. fun screen shots

My first post in this topic, but I "got a buncha crazy photos" This one isn't crazy, but it shows how well Ryanb's suiside lanes correspond with the centre median without redrawing the road. I think it looks awsome! Traffic jam, even with 5 lanes of traffic each way! Heres another heavy traffic shot, slow moving even with 12 lanes! Big interchange right in the middle of an airport! Another at the edge of a terminal! In front of the train station, a nice central platform Big interchange Cahos! (made picture big to show it) Reduced to 800 x 640 to meet board standard. NOB. Nice Roundabout Plane's wing over road means low clearence! Whew! I went overboard there, hopefully you enjoyed looking at some fun screenshots of mine!
  2. monopoly house

Four houses, or a hotel? Ya make a one of those red hotels! Would be awsome!!!
  3. Smooth highway transitions??

Ya i do somthing similar, experiment with different slopes, not hole diggers, thats how i got these:
  4. Can't wait, looks so amazing. I can't even think of a way to say how awsome is and how it will change sc4! Great work!
  5. dmrsunz, a good way to figure out which direction the road is going is to look at the emergency lane on the right of the road network. If you have north/south or east/west network, the emergency lanes should be on the outermost sides of the road, showing which direction the network is travelling. Hope this helps! Emergency lane on the right has traffic travelling north on the right RHW and south on the left RHW. Having the emergency lanes face inside the roads would reverse this.
  6. I do see your point, however as Swamper77 mentioned, that intersection is still similar. I think it would sufice myself, as it is just an at-grade crossing. I was inquireing more about right turn lanes for freeway designs, you know, right exit/entrance lanes unlike the highways in-game that just end when they reach the highway. Kind of like this (taken from the boston tunnel theread), but with shoulder on right
  7. Wow, awsome work! For right turns/exits, many rural freeways cancel their emergency lane on the right to replace it with a acceleration/decelleration lane for interchanges and possibly at grade crossings. If you improvise, we can still have right turn lanes in the same tile but you have to take away the shoulder. Thats the only I think it may be done. Heres an example See that there isn't an emergency lane? It ends at the start of the decelleration lane (exit ramp) and begins agian at the end of the acceleration lane (entrance ramp)
  8. Double-Deck Bridge Experiment

(has been blown away yet again...)
  9. Just an addon to my last post, but i have another proposal for regular highway/RHW interchanges. Its called the cloverstack (part stack, part cloverleaf). The flyover ramps would be used by the regular highway and the leaves would be used with the RHW. Heres some pics to show how it works and to draw a base for interchange designs. The RHW would run left/right here, the regular highway up/down A cloverstack viewed from the sky The same interchange from the ground A cloverstack attempt in simcity by oroen's city journal of Downingsford: As for T-type intersections, I suggest using a trumpet. I will not get into detail with that, for it has already been discussed in several threads in simtropolis' fourms. Let me know what you think!
  10. Cities' Webcams

Toronto, Ontario, Canada and the Niagria region use a series of COMPASS CCTV all-weather cameras to monitor traffic in these big, busy areas, here are some. Map showing congestion on both collector and express lanes of traffic Locations of the COMPASS CCTV cameras on the highways (yellow dots) This link shows live pictures of all the cameras for the public to see If you want more info, check this site out as well http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/compass/
  11. DEDWD Transit Hub for GL Hwy 2

are you going to release a version for the asphalt highway for those who use that texture of highway?
  12. Wow, just gotta say this is amazing stuff. Keep it up!
  13. Originally posted by: SamJam That would require a lot of real estate in the game:The Parclo A4, designed by the MTO, requires at least 100 metres of accel/decel lane, 50m of which does not include the ramp itself. The ramps themselves must be at least 100m (straight or curved) to 150m (loop) to maintain safe speeds that adhere to the legal limits (generally 40 km/h). A loop that size, combined with the straight ramp intersection at the road, would probably need a 9-tile box. quote> Just wanted to know how we are going to develop our interchanges. Having puzzle pieces for each direction of traffic would be best, but it may be tricky to fully implement. When the puzzle pieces are fitted correctly (like a puzzle) the interchange should look like this. MTO A4 This, one ramp from highway, two from roads, stoplights inside the interchange US V5 Not this, stoplights would be on the outside, and 2 ramps from highway Note: I'm not developing the interchanges, but I just wanted to let the developers know what design may become the final decision and when it is avalable for beta testing.
  14. Highways

Originally posted by: StylinLancer Thank you much. This is exactly what I was looking for. Any ideas how to make that single highway connect back to a double highway?quote> Unfortunely, no. You can either use one-way roads to bring the split highways together or use the rural highway (RHW) to connect the sections or use it entirely for the split sections.
  15. Euro traffic generator

Awsome! My highways now have some traffic! Any way you could make another prop to look like the basic open grass area instead of the current prop?
  16. I was in New York, USA on business this April, and the I saw the most amazing biulding ever made during my trip. It looks like this. Does anyone know what its called? (took these pics myself) Its the cool looking blue one!
  17. Asphalt Highway Texture

Anyway the asphalt could be darker, such as dark as the asphalt from roads/aves? What way it could blend in with our cities better
  18. People! Lets stick to the RHW in this thread! As for the toll booth problem, it is pritty much starting to be elimated everywhere but the in United States. The rest of the world is now biulding electonic toll routes or upgrading existing routes to meet this standard. Eletronic toll routes completly eliminate the need for toll booths, which completly eliminates toll booth backups. No idea why Americans are not following the rest of the world here, but it has proven sucessful in every route so far. Im not going to go into detail about how electronic tool routes work because it has been posted before in various threads. Go to this website if you want more information: http://www.407etr.com/

This is a Canadian road, and many highways in the province of Ontario are adding HOV lanes to them to help both to increase efficency and to persuade people to carpool which will help Canada achieve its Kyoto protocol. I think I have seen other countries with HOV lanes on the left too. Follow the link I made on the post as it will help explain how the HOV lane works Heres the link agian: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/hov/video.htm
  20. Originally posted by: qurlix As for expanded-RHW systems...that four-lane-per-direction design was the original idea, but I have decided that we are going to go with a five-lane version. This is for several reasons, most importantly of which A) If we do five-lane, few people will be requesting six-lane and four-lane versions, but if we do four-lane a significant amount more people will request five-lane...B) Five lanes fit comfortably across two tiles. Four lanes, however, leave a large amount of empty space (transparency) on both tiles...and C) Five lanes make splitters and mergers easier...we simply remove the center lane and voila, two side-by-side two-lane RHWs. With four lanes we will have to take up a bit more space separating the new carriageways. -qurlixquote> Having 5 lanes would be great! The in-game 6-lane highway does not fit comfortably between two tiles, it actually is slimmer than the 4 lane avenue! Most modern 4 or 5 lane highways (since about the year 2000) have a High occupancy vechicle (HOV) lane in the left-most lane. These lanes are usially seperated with a wide, solid line and buffer zone rather than the long broken line the current RHW has. If at all possible, when designing the 5 lane highway, we should make the road to have 4 lanes, an HOV lane on the left side of the regular lane, and emergency lanes/rumble strips to fill any remaining space in the 2 tile wide space. Even if the HOV functions just like the other lanes in-game, we still have the eyecandy needed to bring this lane to life! Also, HOV's have special markings on the road (like turning lanes). They look like this: These pictures use the HOV lanes with a 4 lane highway. A buffer zone seperates the HOV lane from the other ones. There is usially a emergency lane to the left of the HOV for emergency pull-overs and for emergency vechicles. http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/hov/image/enter_existing_lane.gif Using a designated zone to enter/exit an HOV lane Here is a great video describing what an HOV lane is and how it works. Follow this link for the video, it gives a virtual tour of the lane too! http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/traveller/hov/video.htm What do you think? Can it be applied to the RHW? 21. German Signs Pack 2

These are good, but they look like a joke compared with your last pack release that had the signs connect to the median. I really liked your last pack but this is an ok addon
  22. Large City Park

    Finally a big, city-block park!
  23. Stoplights SuperMOD, Wanted?

I would like to see this though, never seen this thread untill now. Having the stoplights on the other side of the road is somthing in the game that has always bugged me, and it seems simple enough to just move the stoplights to the other side. It may be harder to modify, but this simple modification would add a huge amount of realism to the game. Not all great ideas do not need to be burried, as they can rise from their sleepy graves more alive than ever before!
  24. Outdoor Chess Plaza

Creative idea!!! Chess is in simcity now? Now my life is complete!!! :D
  25. NAM: Requests

Just one more highway request: is the development of the ground/ground stack interchange still in the works? It is really needed so you do not need to elevate the one highway and have the ramps unrealistically run below the elevated highway bridge. It would be awsome to have a ground/ground stack here once this area develops.
