  1. Joining the Simtropolis Discord Chat

    Thank you! That worked!
  2. Joining the Simtropolis Discord Chat

I wonder if that's the problem. I actually changed my username to timewisegamgee on Discord... Maybe it's somehow picking up the old name? This is what I see:
  3. Joining the Simtropolis Discord Chat

OK so what if I'm an incredibly old member, it says it was last synced on November 2nd on Simtropolis and I still cant see anything on Discord except the public channels.
  4. My first impressions of New City!

    Very interesting game to watch!
  5. As most of you know, there's been quite a few Global Warming related threads in this forum. Instead of combining these three threads together (which caused a big amount of confusion when we did so with several other threads), the staff has agreed to simply create a brand new thread with a new topic starter and new ground rules. __________________________________________ The topic: Say that it's the year 2100. What is the world like? Has global warming happened? Is everything different or is it still the same? Will we be farming coconuts in Antarctica? What are your views on our possible future? __________________________________________ The suggestion for those that post here: We had many problems with the three Global Warming threads because they kept going to the same exact topic, though they were actually different. Quite a few posts were archived which, in other words, means forget about what happened earlier with the constant flaming. Except, these are the most obvious statements you cannot forget about: Please, keep this civil, of course! Secondly, Simtropolis is mainly a Sim City 4 site; however, these kind of topics have been allowed. The Current Events forum is an experimental forum to see if our community is ready for topics such as these. And thirdly, this is a family friendly site, but this is not a kiddie site. Show other members on Simtropolis that you (in general) can handle this type of topic. Let's have an intelligent discussion. Now that you know (and all of this should be known already), post away! Full credit goes to simcitystar1167, wagusmaximus, MrFingers, (Sam), and countless others for beginning the discussion of Global Warming these past few months. Sorry that those other three threads were closed, but we felt that we needed to begin with a new thread. Lastly, we also decided to keep the other threads locked, but open to the public if you wish to see the data in those threads.
  6. Gas Price War

My area of Houston making national news is something incredible to hear. A new Chevron station opened up today next to an older Shell station and the two went to war: Price War Drops Gas Below $3 HOUSTON - A gas price war that has fuel selling for less than $3 a gallon turned into long lines for two northwest Harris County gas stations, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday. Two gas stations on Eldridge Parkway at FM 529 started the price war at about 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Word quickly spread and long lines formed when gas prices kept dropping. At one point, the lines continued onto the street and created gridlock. At 3 p.m., gas was selling for $2.85 a gallon at the Shell station and $2.83 a gallon at the Chevron across the street. By 5 p.m., Chevron sold gas for $2.39 a gallon while Shell dropped its price to $2.49. At 6 p.m., the price fell to $2.34 for Chevron and $2.37 for Shell. Even big rigs got in on the action when diesel dropped to $3.69 a gallon. "We're just having a friendly competition and it's a good thing for the customers. They're getting a good deal out of it, so everybody's happy," said Sunny Gill, Shell's manager. Chevron ran out of gas by 6 p.m., but a new shipment was expected within an hour, so drivers just parked and waited. "A girlfriend of mine told me about it and I came running over," customer Terry Jackson said. There's no word on how long the gas price war will last or how low prices will go. "We set a mark at 99 cents. I?m thinking maybe they should stop, too, by then," Gill said. "We're just going back and forth until they stop." The initial price drop was part of a grand opening celebration for the Chevron. The average gas price in Houston on Tuesday was $3.62 and diesel was $4.44.quote> $2.37? If only I knew this was occuring at the suburb-town right next to me.
  7. Awesome! You used Blender to create these? Any helpful tutorials you wouldn't mind sharing?
  8. Just curious, what are you using to create these buildings? Blender? 3DMax?
  9. Very exciting indeed. Hopefully this is the game we have been waiting for for so long. I never did mod for SC4 but maybe I'll be able to with C:S.
  10. Did history taught you anything, people? Pre Orders should be in list of Bible Sins. Too many times when people pre order something and they find the game not meeting the expectaions or finishing comepletely broken... I know that Paradox is not EA and the price is sweet for someone but we need to be really cautious even with this game. You're absolutely right. I am really shocked people are still preordering after the whole Simcity fiasco (something I won't do again). Preorders for digital copies make no sense... I am very very excited for this game but I will not buy and download until the day or week it releases, based on more reviews.
  11. What SimCity Teaches Us About Real Cities of the Future

^ Wow, that's probably a SimCity glitch that actually got future cities right.
  12. SC4. Buuuuuuut, Simcity 2013 does have a lot of potential and some cool features such as markets and building add-ons.
  13. problems in buy power

    Same here. It's annoying.
  14. My friend Jaxon was going to buy this game until he learned it was online only. He travels A LOT via airplane and so he only plays PC games when he's on his laptop on the plane. Since he's in a plane for a good portion of his time, he won't be able to play this game at all. No connection. No buy.
  15. *Looks at Forum*

This. EA wants something that people are going to enjoy. Whether people here believe it or not, you can be sure Maxis and EA are listening to users' reactions. EA knows that if people aren't liking this game now, they're going to be loosing more and more people to other city simulators in the future.
  16. Show Us Your Skylines

Some really stunning pics. Look, I agree with the complaints on tile size and the vast empty space, but man... I can tell this game has a lot of potential. Can't wait to mod this thing!
  17. Signed up to say

They key point "as an option" And on that, I totally agree... Edit: Why should Maxis and EA decide for me whether I want multiplayer or not. I actually receive the game tomorrow but from my friends playing it already, isn't there something called sandbox mode where you can play by yourself?
  18. car garage

What's the name of the parking garage? Like when you click on it, does it have a specific name or does it say who created that parking garage in the description? If you can remember which parking garage you downloaded from the STEX (I'm assuming you downloaded it from here), then the uploader of that parking garage should have posted a link with the dependencies on that page. You can post the name here and I can link you to the dependencies if you are having any trouble.
  19. Signed up to say

Perhaps not "everyone" but I certainly know people who wanted multiplayer as an option... to be able to interact with other friends. Now personally, I'm more of a single player person but still, those multiplayer people did exist. It was even mentioned a few times in the Simtropolis chat years ago. Many years ago.

I think OtisJenkins' main point is that people should not rush to judgement. It's only been a few days since this game has been released. It just seems too early at this point and that's a legitimate argument.
  21. Is SimCity that bad?

Well guys, he's already mentioned what he's overlooking sooooo... I would actually wait at least a week. Maxis is going to be busy working with their servers so game crashes should not be surprising AT ALL. They will definitely release a patch shortly because, even during a beta period, there is still a lot of data that Maxis is going to be collecting including bug reports... again, since the games are actually running on servers now.
  22. There will be server issues for a few more weeks. As a video game developer myself, the time right after launch can be some of the most hectic days serverwise. Trust me, it may be annoying as hell right now but I'm absolutely sure Maxis is wanting to resolve all these nuisances After all, Maxis wants its users to tell other people about how great their game is... not about how much the game crashes.
  23. Can't rate it yet since I don't receive the game until Thursday but it seems like anyone having glitches and/or server problems should wait at least a week or so for Maxis to work all this out. Almost every game I've played has bugs the first day. Just wait for the patches to come on in cause they certainly will come. As for tile size, that would seem to be a legitimate concern. I've watch two of my friends play the game and it seems like they can lay out a whole city very quickly.
  24. Yeaaa... that's cause the people actually playing the game are enjoying themselves too much to have time to rate the game. So far, I've seen two people in my Computer Science department play this and it looks absolutely gorgeous. They were playing it for hours in the CS lab and it was fun to watch them play. I can't wait to get the game this Thursday.
  25. That was surprisingly fun to watch.
