*This CJ Inspired from true events of a submarine volcano’s eruption forming an island. Facts: Didicas Island emerged from the sea when the underwater volcano Didicas erupted back in 1952. The volcanic island is located 22Km NE of Camiguin Island of Babuyan, Northern Philippines. Initially the size of the new island 2.4m Km wide and highest elevation of 240 metres but the Lava Dome which is the Highest Elevation of 228m, the island itself currently have a reduced Base Diameter of 1200m due to erosion. Last t eruption as of date was last 6 to 9 January 1978. The mild eruption blanketed the island with fresh volcanic ashes. Actual Photo (credit to Philvocs.com) 5 January 1978, Didicas island, For weeks, Volcanologists from Philvocs (Philippines), JMA (Japan) and USGS (USA) has been observing a lot of heavy volcanic and seismic activity. All signs shows the volcano is about to have an imminent huge eruption. 6 January 1978 Eruption day…Volcanic Gas and Ash Plumes start engulfing the area, hot lava start flowing above the surface, blasting steam and rocky debris high as it touched the sea water. Hydrophone readings indicates eruption as well on the sea floor. Pillow lava quickly amassing forming new land forms. The eruption continued for days raising the island as much as 300m high by 15 February as large lava flows continuously. Around the island large rocks were rising from the sea. The island had grown fast and large enough to maintain a permanent presence above sea level. By the month of July, the volcano ceases to erupt smoke and ash, but continued to emit lava reaching the sea. With the huge amount of earth material deposited the once ephemeral island turns into a permanent one. On the third week of September 1978, no new lava flows were observed, temperature drop were recorded. By the first week of October Philvocs lowered down the Alert level which will enable future landings on the island. As of 12 December 1978, Philvocs cancelled alert level on the island as there were no longer signs or indication of eruptions. The island is about 32 km² in size and evinces various plants and birds in just a few years (note I exaggerated the size compare to real existing one). The youngest naturally form Island is born. Actual Photo of the Real Didicas Island (Photo Credit to pinoymountaineer.com) Fast forward to early 2000s. The government gives green light to develop the island. Majority of the plan includes the following: · large international airport hub · seaport, oil and gas processing complex and logistic center · central business district · housing projects both private and public. · tourist spot (tropical beaches including development on the small outlying islets and cays) · water reservoir and nature reserve · agriculture zone
