  1. Hello all, As we have a nice little sub-forum going on here, this will be our new main SimCity 3000 thread. Here, you can post pictures/screenshots of your city project. No rules here, just post whenever you feel like your city needs a little showing. You might even feel like writing some additional text as a showcase of your city. Also, I think this thread is a great opportunity to post the small quirky gimmicks and other cool stuff this beloved game still surprises us with.
  2. Sc3000.com down? How can we access?

Sc3000.com seems to be down. It there some way to get access to the content of this site, that I haven't heard of? Maybe you know, @Cyclone Boom
  3. Hello all. This subject is something I have thought about for a long time. I love all kind of city building games, but SC3000 has always been my favourite. Why is this? Well, other than some childish nostalgia I think map size has a lot to do with it. I have played a decent amount of SC4, but I have always been frustrated about the small map sizes. I know you can build large regions in SC4, but these regions consists of smaller independent maps that are rendered independently. This has always irritated me with SC4, since I never had the feeling that I was building something very large in one picture. I know the map size in SC3000 isn't very large either, but I do think it is easier to build a metropolis like city in one map in this game. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If there is something I have missed about SC4s map sizes, I would love to hear. SC4 is such a nice game, the graphics are awesome and way more realistic than SC3000. The community and downloads has always been bigger and better for SC4, so I would love to make a switch to the game, but I never think I will unless one can build large cities in ONE map. Do you guys know something that I don't?
  4. Hello all Throughout my childhood and teen years I always enjoyed playing games with high levels of competition and strategy build into them. That meant that I had to think fast and act accordingly so that I would gain competitive advantages over the other players. Therefore, I have always liked RTS-games. However, the more 'quiet' simulation-based games (and especially city simulators) have always been the place to go if I needed to relax and process things in my brain (also when I was a kid). Today, having fully embraced the busy life of adulthood, my desire for using games for relaxation has increased. I now only occasionally play RTS-games, and while they are very fun, I must admit that they are rather stressful. I already have too many decisions to make in my life, so why even add more? It seems the older I get, the more I seek into the more relaxed type of games like city builders. In these games, I have complete control and my mind is very relaxed without getting bored. It's some kind of therapy for me, because I can feel that my mind processes many thoughts and past experiences as I play the game. Do you feel the same about games and relaxation? And do you have any games that you could recommend for relaxation (other than SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4)?
  5. Feeling overwhelmed...

Just wait and see @TheMurderousCricket ... even though SC4 is a great game and very addictive, eventually you'll get tired of it and return to good ol' SC3000 again That's what happened to me after having loads of fun with SC4 for a few years.
  6. Show us what you are working on in SimCity 3000!

@THijSCiTy Love your experiments and documentation. You investigate many things in this game that I have thought of sporadically while playing. For the record, though, I think reaching 2 mio. inhabitants is where your city will really stand out from "regular" big cities from players. My usual maximum for filling out the whole map with a realistic setting for a really big city is around 1,8-1,9 mio inhabitants.
  7. So, as the title says. I currently play this game on a shitty laptop with a small resolution screen. The game only works for my screen at a resolution of 800x600. I have seen some impressive SC3-photos in here with high resolution, even HD quality, and I can also see that you guys can take screen shots that captures a lot more of the city. So, I was wondering if someone out there who plays SC3 in high-res would like to help we out with a couple of screenshots of my city? I will send you my city file and show you on the map where the pictures should be taken. Thanks!

In some old city I've made (Rotterdam), I have tried to achieve a customized port layout:

@TheMurderousCricket Wow, that tunnel thing you've got going is amazing. Want to try something similar, when I have the time. Kinda quiet from me these days
  10. Some SC3K questions

In addition to the informative answers from @brancra I will also add this: 4. Water deals are indeed possible to maintain in the long run. All my cities run on neighbour deals. Then I avoid the irritating aspect of rebuilding ugly utility buildings every 100 years. 5. To get neighbours to buy your power, you need to produce more power than you consume.
  11. Some SC3K questions

In my experience you need to make it slightly elevated at those exact spots where the bridge starts and ends. On your picture, the land elevation is simply too low. Use the elevation tool to increase elevation +3/+4 levels at the two bridge "ends", and you will be able to build your bridge. EDIT: Also, I will add, that you need to make more space for your bridge. At the exact spot your want to build your bridge, you need to delete and unzone an area at the size of 3-4 lots around the "ends".

I make them historical I usually create these low land value high-rises in the early stages of the city when land value generally is low. As the game progresses, as the "map center effect" comes into effect, they will just stand there side by side with astronomical land value buildings.

@VetinarisClerk Nice. Seems like Fort Rivers downtown kinda changed its inner design? I have always liked the low density commercial buildings in the European building set. When bumped together like in your city it really does look like a historical merchant's center. Here's a picture of the downtown area in my new city. I like to create this weird mix between low-land value residential high-rises together with astronomical land value commercial skyscrapers.
  14. Modding Fun with SYS.PAK

Jeeeez....... Is this possible? It would be complete game changer for me, lol.
  15. Show us what you are working on in SimCity 3000!

Great @TheMurderousCricket - I'm looking forward to see I had some nice newly-made stuff to show, but then my computer recently crashed with all my files and I wasn't able to regenerate them :-( So I started off here in 2021 from scratch with a new city. And the first thing I want to show is this nice little Christian community suburb, where the local rule is that no building can be taller than the local cathedral. It's an extremely sacred place to the locals. Other than this one simple rule, which the inhabitants will enforce with great enthusiasm, the community is planned out orderly with mid-sized residential square blocks.
  16. I suggest we make a new thread called "Show us what you are working on in SC3000" or something like that. This thread's title is misleading for what we use it for now. A new thread with a new title will be more comprehensive and more welcoming for new visitors. Heck, it might even increase the popularity and activity of this nice little SC3000-subforum we've got. What do you guys think @VetinarisClerk @The Thinker @Captain Adam @TheMurderousCricket @dencity @Prophet42 ? EDIT 06-02-2021: And so be it. The thread is located here:
  17. Games for stress relief and relaxation

Woah, that sounds awesome. There's just something very special about planning and laying out your own parks in computer games. Have you played Roller Coaster Tycoon (the original one)? I think this game had about 50 different flowers, plants and trees aswell.
  18. Unfortunately, earlier this month I was forced to do a factory reset on my computer. I was able to regenerate all my files, but for some reason, my .sc3-files have lost their data (my city files). As you can see on the attached picture, it's like all data from the file has been erased. The cities are visible on my harddrive as .sc3-files, but when loading them into SimCity3000, it will not show any data, and the game will not open the file. I'm suspecting my computer hasn't been able to succesfully recover them because the .sc3-file type is outdated and not supported by the data recovery software. Fortunately, these are only 4 cities. I have my big portfolio of cities backed up another place. But these 4 cities I had sadly spend many hours on. I'm kinda getting used to the thought that they now are gone forever. But perhaps one of you have knowledge of something that I don't, in terms of recovering them?
  19. How to recover .sc3 cities after factory reset of computer?

Sadly, I'm afraid these cities are lost forever. Irritates me now that I just didn't take those screenshots back when we talked last time, lol :-). I had spent hundreds of hours on especially the Johannesburg city, playing a new "style" with more focus on detail. Let this be a lesson to everybody to take backups regularly! But what the heck, life moves on. There are more important things in the world to cry over than lost SimCity-cities, lol. And I surely had fun while making the cities. The process is the most important thing for me. I have just started a new city now, and in time I will need your help with screenshots I think
  20. Having played this game for 20+ years, I still - occasionally - get surprised by the funny little gimmicks they have put into this game. I just received this complaint from Mrs. Farsheim's 10th Grade Civics Project today in a new city I started. As usual, I wait a bit with building my first educational institutions. But I have never seen this one before - I thought it was quite funny.
  21. @TheMurderousCricket Santa Katrina looks really nice and simple. I love the way you create these affluent neighbourhoods with mansions and tiny canals. I see you also spend countless hours making individual zones historical, especially with those mansions. I have whole cities where all data is historical. Takes a long time, even months, but the result is just so much more satisfying!
  22. Can't get Gigamall or Toxic Waste Disposal Plant

You'll only get the Toxic Waste, Gigamall, Maixmum Security Prison and Casino Row as a gift from Mr. Landgraab if your city is in financial struggle. I like to have these buildings in my city, so I usually start of my game with bad fiscal habits, intentionally.
  23. It doesn't seem to work for me with the HD patch. So I'll send you a message some time soon with the information Thanks!
  24. @VetinarisClerk Thanks for your response. I'm aware that its possible to use these patches. However, I'm not sure it will work for me since I'm only using a small laptop. The most common resolution for a laptop is in the 1400 x 1000 range, or even less. And whenever I try to change to a higher resolution (not patch, but through the actual "vanilla" option in-game), the game screen only fills out 1/3 of the laptop screen, so it is in no way satisfactory. Therefore, I would assume that a large desktop computer with a screen showing a 1900 x 1200 would be the optimal way of achieving HD resolution? I'm thinking that having a desktop panel screen is a prerequisite for having a succesful HD experience all together? But heck, its worth trying.
