Anyone ever have any 1x1 I-M lots? + other mod questions
fredinno replied to fredinno's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
thanks. -
It can be used for roads and RHW-2 too, as I showed in another thread. (someone made a lot blocker for RD-2 and RHW-2). But Tram/GLR mingles with traffic (like a normal tram would), or is it just a surface version of elrail? If so, I might actually consider using it as a supplement to my burgeoning subway system. Also, IRL, trams shouldn't be on time any more than BRT. You can't solve the problem of traffic and congestion, unless you do like what they are doing here in Vancouver and make a dedicated rail line alongside the road, banned from being used by anything else (except at intersections) - I don't know if this is what is done in Germany, but Calgary's Tram system has consistent delays due to lack of dedicated rail. At which point, there is no point to using it over BRT (plus a dedicated lane that only buses can use), especially with self-driving cars/buses. That's why I don't see the point of Tram over Bus. Especially when laying rail tracks is costly. I think it's like robots vs Human exploration argument- technically nothing humans could do couldn't be done with robots and orbital remote control with less cost and risk. But we all like Humans on the ground over robots, or Tram over buses. This can only end well, lol

Meh, I always liked BRT better, I never understood the big fuss about Tram (doesn't offer that many obvious advantages over HOV lane bus) But what you're saying is that even if it was possible (not really) there would be no disadvantages for placing Maglev over BTM (I guess cost might work, but probably not enough). what is the difference between Tram and Subway, or NRD-4 and RD-2 in NAM if the capacity cannot be changed? Wondering.

Questions about SimCity 4 transport

Forgot to mention that. Yes, I have Java. Also, I have administrator rights on my account- is that too little? -
I get with the cosmetic (maintaining the cosmetic mods would be more work). But lotblockers and RTMT still don't make much sense- I mean and the 'no truck' lotblocker I can never find are pretty useful to force more rail usage (since freight always seems to prefer roads), along with RTMT for bus stops. I know NAM has a policy of not working on lots to concentrate on networks, but it seems a bit stranger when those lots already exist. I use a slope mod sometimes, though my cities are generally on slopes, so it's more difficult for that.

So ARD-3, TLA-3, and NRD-4 have more or less the same capacity and speed? OK, it's understandable why that would be. Oh well. I mean, Monorail seems to functionally be more or less like El rail but with higher speed and capacity. That's a Maxis network, but still. I would aticipate commuters to prefer monorail over el rail, or is there another variable in place?

I meant technically "not worth it", as I thought you implied. Sorry about that. I'm used to a completely different community (spaceflight) where "technically" possible means anything within the realms of physics- I'm probably expecting too much here, lol silly mistake on my part. Ohh, thanks. I suppose these kinds of things (along with lotblockers and RTMT) aren't included in NAM because they would be too much added stuff for it? Or because they aren't in the NAM team?

so you mean STR is the same as DTR, except being only one lane? And NWM-RD-3/NRD-4 is the same capacity as RD-2? Then is it speed that makes RD-3 hold more than RD-2? interesting. I mean, I know buses do a similar thing in SC4. I wouldn't think HSR would have any higher speed than BTM monorail, so that doesn't leave me with much other choice other than to build a new parallel line. I don't have space for 2 monorail lines next to each other (I know that monorail development is going to be superceded by "RealHSR", so I guess a true 4 lane monorail/HSR and FLUPs monorail/HSR could happen eventually). I need to service another area just parrallel but east of a congested north-south Monorail line, so, in a sense, it fixes itself. It sucks, but I guess there is no real solution to this. Plus, I would suppose a "maglev" or "hyperloop" train line would be an impossible addition due to the inability to having to build directly off the .exe?

Questions about SimCity 4 transport

Sorry, another thing is that the NAM constantly states that I have a problem with Java not being installed, and thus the 'full package' must be installed (or something along those lines) I'm using Windows 10, is that the problem (Mac apparently had the same issue)? Would just like to know. Thanks. -
I know. It was just a suggestion for an optional cosmetic mod since you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between RHW-2 and MRD by just looking at it. Which was why I never used it. Plus, BRT- high speed lines would probably need an HOV symbol for the same reason.

I wondered if there was a 3-track monorail... But you're right, in a sense. It's because monorail and subway networks were all 400% capacity, and since there probably isn't any concievable way to increase subway capacity (except maybe 3-track el rail? One can dream XD) I was hoping against hope for some way to fix that (you can't build monorail over monorail as a double height network either, nor road under highway (MHW, no idea about RHW)- as in- ) But we don't even have 3-track rail yet, so I guess I would have to wait a lot for something like that. I guess my options are limited. Maybe I need to build an entirely new parallel line. Roundabouts tend to fix those for the most part.

"2x2 is only for roads and streets. For OWR, you need a 3x3 circle." Wait- wut? I suppose it's for the extra speed and capacity, but way to be confusing! I don't suppose there is a RHW-2 roundabout? I'm looking to fix -
Questions about SimCity 4 transport

Well, I just reinstalled NAM to get rail viaducts, so I'll try again. I know that one-way roundabouts are supposed to be a thing, but in every one of my installations of NAM, the one-way roundabout never develops. And I think I have the right method of drawing them... it's a 2x2 circle of a one-way road, right? Also, just a question, is there any way to install RRW props and models without actually replacing RAM with RRW? Because there are some lots that use RRW textures, and I can't use them with RAM. Thanks. -
It is an increase in capacity- I was looking for more for one that did it without increasing decomposition (because that's a lot less realistic). But I guess there are no other choices, huh

so release the SC4Lot and Desc files, but don't release the Model file and link to other stuff as dependancies? -
I find it difficult to tell. I might sound like I'm whining here, but still. It would be nice if there was an option to make the RHW look more obviously different. for example, a side barrier like on https://i.ytimg.com/vi/S3nfTbZRPIk/maxresdefault.jpg which are very often used in rural areas in BC due to the slopes. It also makes sense, they rarely have homes attaching to them- and so homes/buisnesses with arrows to the RHW-2 would be blocked from use (except maybe pedestrian), like IRL. It would also make the RHW lots look more pretty (in my opinion) and be still fairly realistic. What do you think? Because using the MHW and MHO in tandem never works, as designed. It's not a deal breaker, but still. RHW would be even more versatile if MHO exclusive lots and interchanges were copied to RHW as well. There are also no 3-lane road roundabouts either... which is the primary reason I was talking about this problem. It's limiting because you have to go down to road for roundabouts- at that point, just use interchanges.

OK. good to know. -
Not really- the NWM-(narrow) 4-lane would go into 2 lanes for the roundabout, then come back to 4 lanes, causing congestion and destroying the point of a roundabout in the first place. couldn't there at least be a median in RHW-2, 4, etc to make it more obvious? Most 2-lane highways sections I know that are 2-direction (wonder why there is no 1 direction 2-lane section) have a median in between. But I'm a city guy, so I don't have the experiences as you do, but still. Even suburban 2-lane highways use medians. Or maybe visible signs at their ends and every once in a while to distinguish it from a road. If you want it, you can make it. This is the way most poor souls get sapped into NAM Team work, and thus inducted into the NAM Team. Be a sucker and make the stuff you want to see included. It's the only way to fly. lol not happening, I have enough projects on my hand as it is, sorry See the 3 prefab MHO interchanges. This is the only place where they are available. There is no way to add them to RHW? Just wondering. I guess you could add in the HOV RHW lotblocker- and have a cosmetic starter for HOV- most HOV lanes I know have the HOV triangle well visible to make it obvious to everyone on the road. Sorry, was referring to MHO. Which is a great mod, just not my style

Do you know if I am allowed to repost files that I have modded from other mods and post them to Simtropolis, as a pack for people with similar problems, or not? It's hard to tell sarcasm via text, sorry. Sorry, I don't have the money, either sorry to hear that. -

It was RAM DTR, not STR. Though both are problematic.
