Highrise Ban District Policy broken?
simonmd replied to rpc180's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Well I think 'broken' hardly the correct word. Thing is, youre obviously using high density and they are mostly pretty big in the first place. I have used this only once, on building under the final approach of my airport and I found it looked fine, certainly alot lower than the buildings around it. -
Cities Skylines Need Help to get Mods

That's one of the good things about Steam, all the workshop stuff can only be used by people with genuine copies. You want full access? GO BUY IT! -
Can't Get My Train To Run Both Ways
simonmd replied to BlitzPackage's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Realism? I think it IS realistic. If you have a circular route, there will HAVE to be some definition of what is clockwise and what is anticlockwise. Therefore, two routes. I'm not sure why you see this as an issue. -
my first ever cj! Welcome to Great Bay (Update 4: More Neighborhoods, More Transit)
simonmd replied to SilentMage's topic in Cities: Skylines City Journals
Your trains, buses, etc will take on whatever colour you assign to the line. Do this by clicking the transport icon in the info window, then click on the line itself and it's own window will pop up allowing you to re name it and change colour. (you have to of course set a line up, just like you may have done with buses and subways.) -
Making an airport replacement
simonmd replied to Sim Trekker's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
I also hope we can improve on the airport and i'm sure some sort of expansion will be available in the future. You can make it look a bit better yourself with the carefull placement of some assets etc as I have done, For me, the worst thing is the aircraft itself, was the designer the same guy who made this? -
Is demand for commercial indeed that low?
simonmd replied to DabblerNL's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
It seems to be a known bug that once you start to grow, commercial demand (the blue bar) seems to stagnate. I believe the Devs are looking into this. Check out the graph for my city. As you can see, the commercial demand grinds to a halt around 2026 and stays the same even when the rest of the city keeps growing! -
Did you know about Forestry Industry?
simonmd replied to perafilozof's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Yes. It is pretty cool that the game actually recognizes tress as well, erm, trees! I mean, it could just see them as just another kind of prop and only be able to use the preset forests as a resource. -
Can't Get My Train To Run Both Ways
simonmd replied to BlitzPackage's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
If you want a loop, then you need two lines. Clockwise and anticlockwise. Nothing needs fixing here, its perfectly simple and does make sense. Here's a quick diagram I knocked up to demonstrate, basically if you want to two way circular route, you have two lines as opposed to one line or a straight / linear route. The thing to remember is that it doesnt matter if it's in a line or a circle, a route MUST start and finish in the same place. -

Can't Get My Train To Run Both Ways
simonmd replied to BlitzPackage's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Yes, once you get the hang of it, its very easy. I think the lack of a tutorial lets this down though. -
Coming as this game does from the same people who brought us 'Cities in Motion', i'd be very surprised if there isn't a Transport DLC sometime in the future that would add things like larger stations, etc. As for cargo HAS to be connected to the outside, NO it does not. I got so sick of my train jams that I disconnected my passenger network and made an interchange by having two stations next to each other, one to the outside, the other to the rest of the city. Also there was a subway and a couple of bus routes so it's a good interchange. It worked a treat! All passenger trains ran smoothly. So, decided to try the same with cargo and that works a treat too! I have 2 outside world cargo stations, one north, one south and five around the map in asort of loop and they now run very nicely, spawning trains themselves when there is demand. This all works without setting any kind of official 'route' up ( I did with the passenger line) and is as busy as ever but with no jams.

Bloody hell!!!! Ok, heres one of mine uploaded to the workshop. It's nothing too fancy but is practical. Its basically a cloverleaf but made using ALL 3 lane highway so there are no bottlenecks, great for heavy flow. http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/710780098918113410/F9D38C2A32A4CE67D34CD5D5F86048FD33F6F18E/

CSL: Graphics too cartoonish?
simonmd replied to Libertyville's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
The publishers themselves stated on SC4D that their primary goal was to create a working product: "I can't fault you for your want of super detailed buildings. Just remember, CO has a very small team that simply can't spend all of their time making tons of super detailed buildings. Things like giving our community members the tools to make custom content are a higher priority." I for one am glad they didn't spend development focusing on the textures but then fail to deliver a working game. Could not agree more, it's the core game thats important, buildings and stuff like that can be modded or upgraded as part of future DLC. Overall, i'm pleased with the buildings though, have you enabled the 'futurisation' policy in the districts menu? Some of those low density houses are stunning! -
CSL: Graphics too cartoonish?
simonmd replied to Libertyville's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I thought this initially but have warmed to it. Oh, and comparing it to Cities XL/XXL???? Er, have you SEEN the people in that game????? Well, I say 'people' the word is used loosely. They look like a cross between the guy in 'UP' and something from lord of the rings, just HORRIBLE. Also, how about the traffic that all turn to colorless, textureless grey boxes when youre more than a hundred feet away. Cartoonish? A bit, but at the same time, I dont feel sick. -
Can't Get My Train To Run Both Ways
simonmd replied to BlitzPackage's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
The way the trains work is simple once you get the hang of it. Lets say you have 4 stations, A B C D When you initially set the route by clicking on the station you must do it in BOTH ways, ie, A B C D C B A You can simply add stop to a line by dragging and snapping them to it. Make sure youre in the Train transport view ( the same one youd select when choosing a station). Select the stops icon. Now go along the route and look for a station that is bypassed, ie the line goes through it and doesnt have a little 'blob' to indicate a stop. Click your mouse on the line and drag it so that the line is moving up to the side of the station, in other words, if the line is going right to left and the leftbound platform is not served, click the line and drag up so the line snaps to the leftbound platform. -
One of my favorite YouTube reviewers, Mack from his 'Worth a Buy' channel, has reviewed Skylines. Amazing and funny review, I won't spoil it, watch for yourself.

More lane options for roads and highways?
simonmd replied to ausa07's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
You should read the Steam forums, its a hot topic! Most are convinced that a 'transport DLC' is inevitable, including more road options, buslanes, trams, stuff like that. It doesn't make sense that someone who releases such a polished game overall and the same people who created Cities in Motion would just 'forget' things like that. -
Should I buy this game?
simonmd replied to thehandyman's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Say what you like in detail but it boils down to this. It's NOT perfect and does have a few bugs to iron out but, It's Twice the game as Simcity for Half the money, nuff said. -
There is a tip that says if you lay your pipes at intervals of 440 between each one, you will get perfect coverage. However, personalty, I like to do it as it would be done in real life, ie, mainly following roads and putting new bits in when required at whatever angle works. I like the look of it, looks more organic and realistic and shows some thought for the actual demands.

Where The Game Really Shines
simonmd replied to BlitzPackage's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Agree with all the above. What I love is constantly discovering more little things. Like the other day, I saw someone walking their dog, that was cool enough but the dog was Cim too, I could click on it and rename it if I wanted! Also, have you followed the hearses? When they stop, two men in black get out, no not Tommy Lee Jones, returning a few secs later carrying a coffin!! The point is, they didnt have to put stuff like that in, no one would have come on here and said "why dont we see coffins getting loaded?" but they did anyway. The biggest mindblow for me though is the water, it, er, works! I actually had to move some water intakes because the level in my river had dropped so much because I was draining it, wow, just WOW! -
whats up with all the stupid park and intersection mods
simonmd replied to thegcode's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
The games been out for four days and the workshop does have a search function AND everything is separated in to categories, I don't understand your problem. The fact we can build new assets easily like working car parks, eye candy to put round a bare looking airport, etc. is a great feature and people are naturally playing and experimenting. I admit to jumping on the bandwagon myself, having uploaded a couple of assets and a new map and I found it very satisfying. The new 'Steam age' has ment that, once created, its 'one click' to upload and share a mod, whereas before you have to package it all, put in a zip file, write a 'readme', etc. Now its almost TOO easy, hence the flooding. Just like the rivers in Skylines after a dam is removed, it'll even out eventually i'm sure!
