  1. Show us What you're Working On

Had some time this past weekend and started working on another small region. Already shaping up pretty well I think:
  2. Show us What you're Working On

I've been working on this region for a while now. Concept is a small/medium-sized port city, with inspiration from North Eastern Canada/USA & the ports along the Great Lakes... Lots of gaps still to fill out, but it's slowly starting to look like something!
  3. Show us your Downtown!

A quiet afternoon in downtown Hamilton:
  4. SC4 on Parallels Desktop

Just seeing this post now - I had suffered through this exact same thing after upgrading from Parallels 8 to 9 (I think?)... or maybe it was after the Mavericks update? or some combination of both... It was terrible. I decided to make the switch over to Wine, and haven't looked back.
  5. Show us your Downtown!

Working on a new downtown area and have plopped this into place. Still not sure if I should keep the Wells Fargo building as it looks a bit out of place. But, I'll probably wait until I grow out the residential areas and see how it looks then.
  6. Show us your Airports!

Not a lot of activity on this one... I'll bump it with a mosaic from my latest regional airport project. I've never created a mosaic before, and to add to the challenge the airport was built across two city tiles. I think it came out fairly well for a first try. Edit: And I guess this is my 100th post! Took me long enough Click for full size (4.5mb)
  7. Show us your Airports!

Still have a lot to do on this regional hub - needs some fencing, flora, and other eye candy, but leaving it here for the night.
  8. Best and worst airport you've been in

In the past 5 or 6 years I've managed to hit 24 airports in Canada/USA, 3 in Europe and 13 across Africa. Eeek, really gotta start watching my carbon emissions Addis Ababa (ADD) is on my list for worst. Ethiopian Airlines is turning into a fine airline with a modern fleet, but flying through their hub in ADD can be a nightmare (makes Nairobi look like a dream!). It's a newer glass/steel building, but already seems to be way above capacity and looks tired and worn out. The crowds are a mess and most flights tend to arrive / leave late. Good luck finding a seat (either at a restaurant - there's 1 and an overcrowded business lounge - or just in the gate area) to waste away a layover. The Ethiopian Airlines staff do try however - will pull you through the chaos if you're going to miss a connection, and are generally quite friendly. And because missed connections happen quite often, they have their own program for getting you a visa and will drive you to and put you up in a nearby hotel for a night. Best I'll say is Schiphol in Amsterdam - it's efficient, has great airfield views, and really good food/drink options. Although I always have a soft spot for Canadian airports - Including Toronto (YYZ) and Halifax (YHZ) as it usually means I'm on the final leg of a trip home - YYZ is easy to get around, organized, and the Mill Street Pub on the domestic side is very good. YHZ is just a great size, and I tend to run into some familiar faces there. Legend's pub at YHZ is always on my list if I have time on a layover. (As you can tell, a good pub is an important factor in my airports of choice) I'll be flying through the new T2 at Heathrow in a week or so, so we'll see how it stacks up!
  9. Show us your Airports!

Posted this over on SC4D a while back, but thought I could share it here too but in exchange for a little help. Regional Airport for a small city of mine: (sorry about the grid) I've never had any luck with getting the old concrete runways from RMIPv1 to work. They never showed up in the airports menu for me. I've downloaded it several times over the past few years - just to try again. Anyone been able to get them to work recently or can point me in the direction of some other alternatives - even some custom lotting? Killing me that I can't make a realistic airport for something bigger than a 737/A320.
  10. I have, with success. The only thing that it has trouble with is the controller compiler. It will give an error saying I don't have java installed and that it will install the full-featured controller. I tend to go with a heavy NAM installation so I don't really have an issue with that seeing as I'd probably end up with most of it anyway. Same. Did a re-install just to see if something was amiss but, got the same error message - which for me is also not an issue as I also tend to go with a full-featured controller
  11. Just a little bump to say that I made the switch over to Wine this weekend. Wow! Incredibly stable, and I can't believe I didn't try to run it under wine sooner - I think I was always intimidated by the setup procedures, but once I actually sat down and read through them, it was simple to get everything up and running. Highly recommend for anyone on a mac (I'm on a MB Air running Mavericks)
  12. Going to try and sort out Parallels 9 this weekend - will let you know if I get it up and running. Will try out Wine also Edit: Well, after removing HD terrain & water mods, and an update of Parallels it seems to be running like a charm now! Installed the old CTP / PEG terrain/water mods instead.
  13. Anyone here upgrade to Mavericks & Parallels 9 recently? I've been running SC4 on Parallels 7 (Windows XP as my VM OS) for several years, but after the upgrade to Mavericks and Parallels 9 I've been getting terrible graphics in hardware rendering (starts once I scroll and gets worse as I scroll around, but returns to normal once you zoom in/out - both in region view and mayor mode). When I switch to software render the problem disappears in region view but i get a CTD once I try and load a city tile. Anyone?
